“I’d say your instincts can’t be that bad, then,” Araleth says, looking around. “A fire that controlled’s got to be magical. Plants can go up in flames quick.”
Olivier, you would know that most of what is grown in this part of Goris are gourd and pumpkin-like plants. Certainly something that would be easy to see on any given plant in this field on a normal occasion.
"Well I can't help much with finding magic but Stiros said he know some people we might be able to talk to tomorrow. So we may just need to wait until then....though I would hate for another attack to happen tonight. I suppose we could go investigate the Garden Overkeep's house that he mentioned but with it getting dark I'm not sure how much help I'll be."
"Maybe we all camp out in the watchtower and just set up watches for the night in case something happens?"
At the question of what this field normally produces, Olivier explains that it’s most likely some gourds or pumpkins or something of that nature. The festival is usually the best time of the year to try out these produces.
A look of confusion appears on his face when the dowsing rods begin acting strangely. "That’s odd. I’ve never seen them act this way. At first it seemed to detect some evocation magic, but then there‘s this other effect, like an enchantement or something. What could that mean?" He then stores the rods back into his satchel.
Olivier nods to Leander’s solid plan. "Works for me. I could use some shut eyes."
“I’ll take the first watch,” Quay says once the party gets back to the watchtower. “You guys get some rest.” Once everyone is asleep, Quay bows his head and prays. Praxice, are you there? It’s me, Quay. I’m part of this group, now. We’re trying to investigate some weird things happening outside of this small town. I, uh, feel some kind of connection with this group. Something I haven’t felt in a while. Please, um, guide us right now?
Quay keeps watch, looking for anyone or anything moving in the night.
"Well you two might have it covered but if not, I'm more than willing to take a watch as well. And then you'll get a lullaby to help you back to sleep."
If we get to his watch Perception 19 (with disadvantage because it's dark) Performance 27
As the group heads to sleep, and also if Leander does end up taking a watch, he pulls out his lute and begins playing a very slow exceptionally quiet tune. It has very calm, peaceful undertones to it and for some of you as you listen, you can't help but think of a calm, peaceful summer night in the forest camping or an evening spend watching the sunset into the sea, or whatever your version of that is. He only plays for a few minutes really just to try and help whoever is coming off watch get back to sleep before stopping his playing. But if anyone were to wake up while he was taking watch, you might notice that he seems to hum on and off to himself pretty constantly, as if he's helping, keep his own company.
You all are able to find your way up to the watchtower without much difficulty.
Leander plays one of the most beautiful and calming tunes anyone in the party has ever heard as you all, aside from Quay, begin to drift off into light slumbers.
Quay, you feel a familiar orange warmth enter into your mind. Tension in your muscles fade and your breathing calms as this warmth settles deep into your body. Even though you hear no reply, you can sense that Praxice has heard you and is watching. As your eyes flitter from field to field, nothing can be easily discerned. The swath of land you can see is so large that after a while it becomes overwhelming and all the fields begin to look the same to you. You notice nothing significant during this watch.
Araleth, after a couple hours, it becomes your watch. Make a Perception check.
Araleth has a shockingly restful meditation--she's not entirely certain she didn't just sleep. Maybe there's something to this whole music thing. Still, she feels comfortable once she goes on her watch. She's in her element.
Unfortunately, her proper element is more so cities and towns than it is plains.
Araleth, the expansive fields are not easy for you to focus on, with each farm looking so similar to the one before it. By any guess, by the middle of your watch it is now firmly in the middle of the night and at least a few hours until sunrise. Your eyes continue to move over the landscape. You can faintly see some dark blurry smudges on one of the fields, though it does not jump out at you as being strange. However, all at once, you see a surge of orange light beginning to envelope the field. Fire. And it looks to be moving fast.
The fire gets Araleth's attention, and she snaps into action. "Everyone up!" she yells to the others, already drawing her blades. "The field's burning!"
"What .... oh .... well shit" and Leander crawls out of his toasty warm sleeping bag trying to get moving as fast as he can.
He looks over at his armor and, knowing he doesn't have time to fully don in just mutters, "tempest take it", before grabbing his lute, bow, and sword and follows the group out of the tower.
Olivier is startled awake by the sudden shouting and ruckus of everyone reacting to the emergency. He haphazardly tries to stand up and grab his satchel before looking over the horizon at the fire reported by Araleth.
"Curses!", he exclaims simply.
He then heads down the tower in direction of the fire. Hopefully, the damage could be mitigated.
Quay wakes with a shock, still in his armor. He sees the burning field, and stares in shock. “No…” Quay whispers, before shaking his head and running as fast as he can towards the field, bringing out his battleaxe.
As you all run toward the field, you can see smoke rising and furious red flames surging upward. The field is a bit more than a minute or two away, even sprinting at full speed, and the terrain is filled with crops, fences, and several other farm-related obstacles that make it to difficult to traverse the land quickly. All of you, please make Dexterity checks (with disadvantage if you don't have Darkvision).
Without the ability to see in the dark, nor a nearby source of light, Olivier has to make his way to the burning field while doing his best to not fall over an obstacle.
Seeing Araleth takeoff with such speed and confidence, Leander dashes after her to follow, though, rather unsuccessfully.
He quickly realizes that maybe trying to keep up with the person with darkvision was not a good plan as he stumbles around tripping over small roots and potholes while doing the best he can to make his way quickly towards the fire.

Quay yawns. “Yeah, it’s getting late. Talking to people in town might be our best bet, unless one of us catches anything happening tonight,” he says.

Araleth nods. "I'll take second watch," she replies. "It'd be best for the two of us to cover it."
Inside the watchtower, she tucks herself into a corner and slips into her meditation.
