"Oh, Mariel, I strongly doubt she will turn against her best customer. Thank you for expediently escorting our tortle companion out of harms way though."The pale tiefling says with an amused smile. "And yes, this would be the office of our elusive information broker."He adds, joining Nasha at the first VIP door, ready to assist her in any lockpicking by offering one of his own slender tools produced somewhere from his coat while keeping a lookout down the corridor and listening at the door.
Perception: 17
(Help action offered if lockpicking is needed, and I think you roll a dex check with proficiency bounus :-)
Nisha nervously glances around her as her heart suddenly starts beating faster. She hoped to keep her... professional skills a secret, and this locked door right here will at the least raise some questions about her if it doesn't completely betray her occupation to Kaelen and Nathaniel. Taking a deep breath, she just gets down to business.

There is a satisfying click, and the door is unlocked. As you open the door. There is no light inside and Nathaniel sharp eyes sees a thin wire attached to the door and door frame.
"It seems our information broking friend is worried he'll have uninvited guests..."The pale tiefling says, motioning to the thin wire, offering Nasha a tool to cut it. "...as he should be." He adds with an amused smile, nodding to his companions.
(Not sure if a thieves tools check is needed to disarm the alarm/trap, but if so Nathaniel offers a help action again.)

Nisha glances up at Nathaniel for a brief second, surprised by his attempts to help her. Is he a rogue like her? Probably not, otherwise he'd do it himself. Her eyes narrow in suspicion, but she doesn't say anything. Instead, she turns her attention back to the door and the wire that the tiefling noticed. Carefully, she gets back to work.

It takes a moment to turn on the lights and room is empty. The wire was attached to a flask of alchemist fire. Pull the door too far and there would have been a fiery explosion. The room was turned into an office with a small bed in the corner. There is not one speck of lavishness in this room. There is still a warm cup of coffee on the table, the odd gentlemen must have left recently. To where you do not know. You may try to find a clue somewhere in this room.

"Seems our elusive information broker was just here..." The pale tiefling says calmly after briefly touching the cup. "...and preferred his office scorched rather than searched. This looks promising, let's just hope he didn't bring with him what we're looking for."He adds before swiftly and efficiently starting to search the office, wary of more traps, trying to not move things out of place when possible, giving the massive minotaur following him around a grateful nod over his assistance and his divine blessing to find what they seek.

"Want to have a crack at the safe?" He then asks the half-elf, who certainly seemed to know what she was doing in a situation like this. (Ready to give help action with thieves tools check to open safe :-)

Nisha enters the room cautiously, her golden eyes scanning the interior... not so much to see anything useful for their research mission but to check if there is anything worth lifting on the way out. She would never do that in front of the others of course, but she does feel the twitch in her fingers a little more after all the lockpicking.
The room is a bit too bland for her liking, but at least there appears to be a safe on the wall. "This ought to have something interesting inside..."
The tiefling seems to have the same idea as her and Nisha nods, while getting closer to the safe. "Let's do this."

Nathaniel and Laine notice the documents on the desk are strange in that they seem to be the ramblings of a mad man. Story about a pet falcon that then shifts to someone 3rd marriage, then more ramblings about eating a dessert at sunset. Random numbers appear in other ramblings.
Nathaniel you are the first to notice a very fine layer of dust, no powder covering the surface of the safe. A powder almost the same color as the safe.
Kaelen just continues to assist as directed as Nisha moves towards the safe he just pats her on the back "You can do this my friend." as divine energy flows through her.
"Code perhaps?"The pale tiefling says as he shows the ramblings to those interested. "If it is, we need to find the key." He adds, then turning to take a closer look at the safe. "Wait, there is some kind of powder here, possibly a trap, maybe even poison." He says, motioning for the half-elf to not touch it quite yet.
(Any way Nathaniel can tell if it is indeed code and/or what kind of powder it is?)
You would need an alchemist kit to verify what the powder is. There is no way to know for sure if it is a code, but from your understanding of the Information Broker he is a man of intelligence.
Thieves Tool Check
Dex Check +Proficiency Bonus. Double proficiency bonus if you have expertise with thieves tools.
(Slight of hand)
The commotion is short lived, and the guard goes back to his post at the bottom of the stairs.

He shrugs and turns, nearly jumping out of his skin at the sight of his party catching up with him. He gives a nod to Nasha, a go ahead to unlock it.
