Gavyn looks at the window, at the drainpipe, at the door, at the dumpster and the alley in a kind of loop, trying to get his bearings. His mind is softened by the drink but there is something nagging him. He's not sure why as this alley seems perfectly defensible. Perhaps amplifying his own anxiety, he calls down the alley. "Hello? Is anyone there?"
Davyn's first impulse is to leave. What good has he done? Why did Bram talk him into this? If only he had been better at Dragonchess, he would be…where would he be? At home. Reading.
Bram had said that “there is knowledge in doing”. But Davyn had only learned that he is…what? Unwanted. Outcast, maybe. Tears rolled down his face and he clenched his fists again in frustration. He grabbed the drainpipe, ready to rip it from the wall. When he felt a scream welling in his throat he closed his eyes and held his breath, then released it in a slow, steady stream.
He released his grip on the now slightly dented drainpipe. Gavyn felt empty but...
The stupidest thought entered his head and laughed. He laughed so hard he bent over, supporting himself on his knees.
“What are they going to do? Put me out on the street?”he said, still chuckling. Then, he started to climb, all the way to the second story window.
Gavyn shimmies up the drainpipe and swings his body into the open window. It's a darkened room as you surmise the courtesan that this room belongs to is still on the 1st floor. A bit of stumbling in the dark and Gavyn finds the door handle. Opening the doors reveals he second floor hallway with 2 VIP rooms. 1 VIP room door is opened.
Gavyn enters the hall and peeks into the VIP room that is open, chuckling to himself about his stupid idea to climb a drainpipe. (If he sees his comrades, he whispers a little too forcefully, “Hey guys!” then he shushes himself.)
"What is this?" Nisha's hand reaches under the bed and pulls out her discovery - a leather tag with a compass rose on it. She straightens and holds it for the rest of the guys to look at it. "Any clue about it?" The rogue is a bit surprised there wasn't anything else of interest in the bed, most people are stupid enough to hide their valuables inside their pillows or under the mattress. The guy they are dealing with here is on another level. She makes her way to the safe and looks at it, happy to discover the courtesan who she finally realises is probably just their comrade under disguise, has cleaned it up. Giving a nod to Nathaniel and Kaelen, Nisha gets her tools out again.

The office is a bit crowded with people investigating the whereabouts of Ebar Hall, so Gavyn plops down into the desk chair and slides it into the corner. He closes his eyes but doesn’t seem to fall asleep. “Why would someone put shoe polish in a safe? A joke? A message?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Maybe there is more to this small tin of shoe polish than meets the eye."The pale tiefling says, carefully checking the tin for powder or other traps before picking it up to carefully examine it.
Investigation: 9 Another roll if still assisted by Kaelen: 14 And if Guidance is provided: 1
The safe cracks open and another disappointment awaits inside. Nisha murmurs something unintelligible under her breath as she leaves Nathaniel and Kaelen to deal with whatever is inside the tin and steps away, looking around the room. Her eyes linger on the tortle chilling in the office chair for a long moment, her mind wondering whether it is a good moment to ask him what the hell was he thinking earlier but instead, Nisha just grits her teeth. It is unclear how much time they have left to find whatever they can in this room and not utilising all the manpower is beyond foolish.
"Make yourself useful," she snaps to Gavyn, before turning to the walls, checking everything hanging for any suspicious hiding spots. Investigation: 14
(I am going by the picture posted earlier but if there are no pictures/calendar/photo frames/board hanging on the wall, she will just look at the bookcase instead.)

As the half-elf snaps at the tortle, Nathaniel raises and eyebrow. Personally he would prefer the tortle doing as little as possible in this delicate situation, but as long as he didn't completely sabotage the mission the pale tiefling would simply have to be content with having the tortle on the team.
Gavyn opens his eyes and slowly stands up. He eyes the coffee on the desk, reaches for it and then changes his mind. The steam still rising from it tempts him. Instead he walks over to the window. (Is it open? Is it trapped?) The tortle pokes his head out of the window if it looks safe.
There is no powder, or anything trap like on the tin that you can see. Nathaniel picks up the shoe polish and looks like an ordinary tin you would see in a general store.
Do you open it?
The window is closed.
On the corkboard there is a blueprint map of a building and the word Heikenar written is neat efficient writing on the bottom. There are small note cards, but they are also written in gibberish.

Gavyn looks at the window and then at his feet. "Huh,"he says, then abruptly leaves the room, cross through to the window he climbed in. The tortle leans out of the open window and looks down at the alley, then up at the roof.
"Really?" he says.
Gavyn shrugs and then shimmies out of the window and climbs the drainpipe all the way to the top.

No one is there to answer.
(Does anyone in the open window hear or in the kitchen?)
The cooks ignore your call, and no one seems to be in the room on the second floor.
Laine inspects the bag as Nasha fiddles with the safe. It just seems like a bag to him however, nothing special. Investigation: 8

Nisha cracks the safe and it opens and its empty except for a small tin of shoe polish.
