Esmar Tuek at your service. Esmar is a long lived elf, though only into his second century, and has spent the last couple decades simply exploring the world and finding all of the wonders these short lived beings have created for themselves. Through his travels he has found himself in the company of beggers, thieves, teachers, healers, nobles, and now researchers. The most exciting was when a noble family attempted to keep him prisoner! But after only a fortnight a friendly, though small, dragon had flown to his window and given him a ring which spoke to him! The being in this ring gave him an offer: to work for it in exchange for freedom. Without a second thought Esmar agreed, was transported into the ring, and grabbed by the dragon where he was flown away. When he next had fresh air he found himself on the roof of the Candlekeep! Though the researchers were at first a bit annoyed with his 'break in', he quickly appologized and offered to help if he could browse their grounds for a while.
--- I've been on DDB for a while now, mostly playing, though trying my had at DMing from time to time. I'm in GMT+9, so a very different time zone to the US, but often check in the morning here, which is evening there. I can make a character sheet if chosen :)
In the ancient halls of Candlekeep, where the scent of old parchment and the whispers of forgotten lore permeate the air, there lived a half-elf bard named Tine. Born of an unlikely union between a lively tavern barmaid, Saria, and a passing elven noble, Lord Thalion, Tine's existence was marked by the intersection of disparate worlds.
Saria, a warm-hearted and vivacious woman, worked at the local tavern within the vicinity of Candlekeep, regaling patrons with her tales and songs. It was in this humble tavern that she caught the eye of Lord Thalion, a noble from a distant elven realm. Drawn to her spirit and enamored by her music, Thalion found himself captivated. Their fleeting encounter blossomed into a passionate affair, leaving Saria with the gift of their child, Tine.
Growing up amidst the ancient tomes and scholarly pursuits of Candlekeep, Tine found herself torn between her mother's vibrant, down-to-earth nature and her father's world of noble grace and refinement. The halls of the library became her sanctuary, where she discovered her love for stories and melodies, and the power they held to bridge gaps between different worlds.
Tine's bardic talents flourished within the sanctum of Candlekeep. Her enchanting voice and mastery of the lute resonated through the hallowed halls, weaving tales of forgotten lands and lost legends. Under the guidance of the scholars, she honed her skills, combining the rich elven musical traditions from her father's heritage with the lively tavern tunes from her mother's repertoire.
As she grew older, Tine's insatiable curiosity led her to explore the mysteries housed within the ancient scrolls of Candlekeep. Her hybrid lineage gifted her with a unique perspective, allowing her to delve into the secrets of both elven lore and human histories. With each tome she perused and each song she sang, she felt a connection to the world's hidden stories, embracing her heritage as a bridge between different cultures.
Now, armed with her bardic talents and a thirst for knowledge, Tine embarked on her own journey within the labyrinthine corridors of Candlekeep. Guided by the echoes of her parents' love story, she sought to uncover the mysteries of the realms, armed with her lute, her songs, and the enduring legacy of her unlikely lineage.
When aspiring to become an Archivist, there is no better place to learn the craft than Candlekeep. The world’s greatest collection of lore along with many of the world’s greatest Keepers seemed like a wonderful place to apprentice. Or at least that is what Thad believed before he arrived here a short time ago. Now, having been promptly assigned to some sort of fetching “mission”, he is not so sure. After all, he is more of a book-learning type preferring to leave practical learning to others. However, not being one to go against the will of Oghma, Thad resigns himself to his fate and prepares to meet the rest of the group that he has been assigned to work with.
Backstory: Glepa was sent from her clan in the hills north of Neverwinter to study at Candlekeep, she was small even for a halfling and very unsuited for the nomadic existence in more ways than one; physically weak but mentally strong, and wanting to be in once place to build a library, and a school, so she can teach all the young halflings how the world (does and should) work. She loves learning and knowledge and is enthralled by all the books! but she is very shy and very homesick as well. Her tutor at Candlekeep keeps trying to get her out of her shell and and so is sending her on this mission, so she can make some friends. She is very softspoken but has the talent to make people listen.

Hook: My PC is an Escort of Candlekeep, under the command of the Four Watchers and tasked with protecting groups of Avowed as they journey forth in search of new tomes
How long have you been playing DnD? Since the "blue book" days of the late 70s
Backstory: Born to humble beginnings, Umkhonzi was fascinated with knowledge from an early age, but his build and low intelligence hampered his efforts to expand his mind. As he grew, he reluctantly embraced his natural gifts and expand his fighting prowess, all the while wishing he could live the life of a scholar. When he came of age, his parents sent him to Candlekeep to train as an Acolyte. He tried to absorb as much knowledge as he could, but the Gatewarden and Four Watchers saw in him the ability to serve Candlekeep in a different way, so they cultivated his martial abilities, and believe he has promise as an Escort.
Ralgar spent his early years within a secluded stronghold nestled amidst the rugged expanse of the Sword Mountains. By the light of day, his clan toiled tirelessly, extracting precious ore from the heart of the mountains and forging weapons that were bartered with nearby settlements. However, as the sun dipped below the horizon, a shift occurred within the clan. Beneath the earth's surface, they ventured into realms of knowledge, their focus fixated on unravelling the mysteries of the celestial sphere.
In his youth, Ralgar displayed a relentless curiosity that set him apart. As he matured into a man, the elders of his clan recognized that his destiny lay not in the arduous endeavours of mining and blacksmithing but in the pursuit of enlightenment. Responding to a job opportunity, he secured a position as an assistant to one of Candlekeep's esteemed Avowed.
Ralgar's days at Candlekeep were defined by the laborious task of transporting ancient tomes for his employer, a role that, though menial, granted him invaluable access to the vast repository of knowledge the fortress held. Yet, as the moon illuminated the night sky, he turned his attention skyward, continuing his passionate exploration of the stars, their patterns, and the secrets they held.
