Akyan nods and falls silent again. That does sound like an odd lot. Two kids, a man in a rolling chair, and a raven... Well, at least one of those people should be easily recognizable. He watches Tom intently, clearly this fog business is getting to him. The part about the cows turning up dead is interesting. He glances at Anthony when Tom says "not all wounds are physical." Anyone who'd grown up around Akyan knows that. Psychic blades don't cut flesh, they attack the mind, tricking the brain into thinking the body is wounded even when no blood is spilled. No physical marks. No evidence left behind. Certain spells could leave the same result, though magic isn't Akyan's specialty someone with detect magic might be able to determine if that was the cause of death. Anthony is clearly just trying to get things strait, and figure out all the facts.
"The cows." He states bluntly. "You said cattle were found dead in the fog. Did any of them have physical wounds?" If they died in a similar fashion... "And was the mist out the night Aoelwyn died."
Akyan's inquiry catches Tom just before he storms out the room. Pausing, he turns partially towards Akyan and says in an equally blunt manner, "Some of the cows did, and some of them didn't. And about the mist," he looks at Akyan darkly before he continues, "it was out the night she died." With that, he disappears around the corner.
"Talking to a raven...?" Zathonmutters. That rattles something around in his mind, old memories. He's torn between fear and hope, surely Aoelwyn wouldn't be consorting with the forces of the Shadowfell.. right? It is clear to anyone looking at him that he is in full mind scramble mode.
Anthony shakes his head. Things like it, but not quite the same. He felt pretty certain it had religious significance, but there are a lot of gods out there and people didn't even always worship the same god the same way. Scrubbing his hair in frustration and swallowing a sigh. He looks around at the others thinking that could have gone better. Killing mist that left no wounds but sometimes did? Vandalized wards turned on those they were meant to protect.
Then he thought of all the people here, those kids. "This is a mess. Obviously the storm is an issue and ... maybe not natural?"He tossed a questioning glance at Kora. "But I'm not sure anyone should stay here until it gets sorted. Especially those kids. Anyone know where the nearest priest is? Neverwinter?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jared's eyes narrow and he gets up and follows Tom out. "I don't cow easily," he mutters. "And if this mist has anything to do with mum's death you're gonna stop whimpering in fear and tell us about it." Intimidate: 22
"A danger that comes with a mysterious fog that potentially harbors malice and harm against cows and now possible Aunty Grym" Aoufie sees the amulet but cannot figure out what it means. With Tom suddenly getting up Aoufie follows. "I know you are reluctant to talk about where you came from but tell me what you know about the mist. I see the fear in your eyes. Please I know you cared for Aunty Grym and we are just trying to piece together her final moments and find out why she died."
A tumult of emotion wells up to his throat from sadness to anger but Aoufie forcibly keeps it down. At some moment it will boil over, but not now.
Anthony face palms as the two go chasing after Tom with an awkward good-cop/bad-cop thing and looks to the other three. Zathon, Akyon, and Kora. "Look I get people are upset and all, but I doubt Aoelyn would be thrilled to see us badgering the people she put the most trust in as soon as we walk in the door. He also really wasn't sure how Tom being afraid of a killer fog warranted deeper questioning about his past. "I'm not sure they're going to be able to tell us a lot anyway. Sounds like she wasn't being very open about anything. Her personal notes and maybe asking around town about those twins or the chair on wheels guy might be a better use of our time."
He hefted himself to standing. and waited to see what the others had to say.
Akyan, who had been staring at the fire, closes his eyes and sighs heavily through his teeth when Jared and Aoufie chase after Tom. The Drow hadn't bothered to try to figure out what the amulet meant. He's not religious, and if Tom wants to keep his past to himself then he respects that. "I couldn't agree more." He says and slowly stands up. "Personal notes would be a good place to start." Opening his eyes he looks to Anthony, "Though perhaps we should wait until after dinner. We can hear what Rea is planning to tell us, and then ask about access to Aoelwyn's room. I don't think barging in and digging around in her personal matters without asking first will sit well with everyone here." By this, he mostly means that they just might not want to think about it right now. If anyone sees them investigating the rooms when they weren't expecting it, there could be some unwanted emotional outbursts.
"He's hiding something Aunty," Jared says, his anger showing as he passes, following Tom. "And if it's part of this puzzle of mum's death I mean to find out why!"
Aoufie and Jared both come careening around the corner after Tom. He brushes off Jared's initial inquiry, but upon hearing the raw emotion in Auofie's voice, he pauses in his escape. He just stands there with his back to you in the hallway, his body heaving with heavy, ragged breaths. He slowly turns towards you, and when his face moves into the dim light cast by an window nearby, you see tears are streaming down his face. He has a haunted, haggard expression. His dark eyes seem to plead with you as he whispers, "Please, don't make me talk more about the mist." He clasps his trembling hands together in a begging manner as he breathes out, "I beg you. Don't make me relive my nightmares."
He is absolutely distraught. You're not sure what sort of experience that he has had with fog back in his homeland, but it obviously wasn't good. It has spooked him to the point where he's actually shaking in fear, his breathing fast, ragged, and shallow. You wouldn't be surprised if he started hyperventilating here in the hallway. Tom had always seem as solid and stoic as a mountain, and you've never seen him like this before.
Aoufie need for answers already had him ready to say more. Hard question needed to be asked and there is no reason to beat around the bush. He stops himself and considers that Rhea decided to wait to tell us something after dinner. I will wait for now, but if the other leads are not forthcoming then I will get my answers one way or another. Aoufie acquiesces and backs away with a grim expression as he waits with the others. Letting Tom go to wherever he can find solace. The storm outside speaks well to his current mood.
Guessing from Aoufie's sour expression that they didn't get more from Tom for now, Anthony looks around at the others. "Looks like we have a little time before dinner.. What's everyone been up to?"Not really interested much in talking about what he'd been up to the past several years, but trying to put the others at ease.
"Work for the most part. You?" Akyan replies after a brief moment of awkward silence. Not that the other's know exactly what he considers 'work', but he doesn't feel like explaining himself.
Giving a soft laugh, Anthony echoes the vagueness. "Enjoying life a little too much." He looks down at the wraps on his wrists, "But I think I kind of blundered into something..." He shrugs, not sure how to explain. It wasn't like faith or a god had saved him. "The right leg up at the right time I guess." He chuckles and knocks on the leg brace under his armor.
"Searching up north. Fruitless for now anyway. Vadrick a hired muscle still looking in my stead" says Aoufie as he drums his fingers on the armrest of the chair.
"I've been soldiering about on behalf of the Daggerfords. I've seen some interesting locales and had my fair share of battles in the intervening time."

Zathon jolts out of his void time, trying to refocus. "I'm inclined to agree with Akyan, her notes might point us in a direction if anything."
Anthony nods in agreement. "Sounds good to me." They could always sneak someone in later if they really needed to.
