Kora walks up to the small crowd of people standing around the blue robed figure. She doesn't ask for anything, but stands and listens, trying to gather as much information as possible, but assuming she'll get assigned a task at some point.
As they walk, Akyan can't help but wonder how long someone could simply wander this place without being assigned a task. After all, they wouldn't have known about it right off had they not met Ming. Sure they'd probably figure out what they are supposed to do if they spoke with anyone here, but if they simply avoided working how long would it take for them to be hunted down? On top of this, how many outsiders are brought into this realm? As is, their group sticks out like a sore thumb. Specifically, Aoufie and himself, though Kora and Anthony don't exactly look like natives either. All in all, if mistwalkers are rare it wouldn't be to hard for anyone to figure him and his siblings all came together. Even with them traveling in pairs. Oh well, there's no harm in trying he supposes.
He stops when Kora stops. The drow isn't in to much of a hurry to be assigned something. The thought of working for this dreadlord doesn't sound all that appealing to him, not to mention most of the jobs sound tedious or just stupid. So, as they wait he scans the crowd. He's looking specifically for others who look like they are from a different realm. They could be part of the Circle, Madame Eva mentioned, though he figures the smarter thing would be to plant someone here who looks like a native.
Aoufie would wait in line as well ready to be assigned some tedious tasks though he hopes they take notice of his cittern and assign him something that matches his talents.
He will continue to look for anyone that seem more aware and less like sheep.
The man had gotten answers to all of his questions only to find himself with several more. Being low on funds, he could only fantasize about visiting a barber. Maybe they’d take one look at him and assign him to the task of bathing. After a small internal debate he decided to pick her brain a little more partly to give the others a chance to get jobs before he wandered that way.
“I was just on my way to get a job for the day. Happy to do my part to help out. Pretty good at picking things up and putting them down,” Giving a cheeky smile as he flexed a little for the gag since clothes and armor wholly covered any muscle definition. Not that he had a lot right now. He’d started his trip to the funeral a little soft. If things continued on their current trajectory though, he’d be lean and cut in no time. Combine that with a shave and haircut and he’d be set for a job looking pretty.”You seem like someone who knows what’s up.” tapping the side of his head. “Any advice for a newcomer on getting an interesting job. I guess I don’t mind that much, just like to have some nice scenery.” adding a wink, but leaving it to the woman to interpret ‘nice scenery’ however she wanted.
Talk about random job assignments, how did I guy like him end up as a priest?
The wizened woman looks Anthony up and down again with a fresh set of eyes, perhaps truly taking into account his ragged appearance. She frowns, her lined face crinkling at the expression. "If you truly are new to the city, how did you get here?" she asks, curiosity coloring her voice. Though she seemed a bit wary before, you can definitely tell she's being cautious now. It's not often that new people show up in I'Cath, especially those who looked like they've gotten in several fights recently. Her gaze flickers towards the administrator standing atop his small stage not to far away, but she quickly focusses back on Anthony.

As the duo move towards the administrator, the various people passing by give Akyan curious looks, but they're too engrossed in their task to do much more than look. Thankfully, the looks aren't hostile or scared, but rather curious. Surely, I'Cath was a big place, but odds were that they've never seen (or even heard of) drow before. Fortunately, Kora hardly draws a second glance. While most of the city's residents seem to share the same ethnicity as Ming, you spot several other people and other races sprinkled amongst the throng.
As they subtly eavesdrop, the administrator seems rather bored as he explains to the group their various tasks. Some of them were assigned street sweeping, others window washing, but the majority were actually given a small pouch which jingled with coins and assigned to go shopping for the day. The money was theirs to do with as they pleased, though they were warned not to spend it all in one place. Throughout this, the administrator barely looks up from his writing pad as he scribbles away. The group hurriedly scurries away once they receive their task, seemingly eager to get away from the administrator.
The robed man finally looks up from his pad towards Akyan and Kora expectantly. He has a thin face and angular features, and his heavy navy blue robe hangs heavily from his gaunt form. Despite his apparent feebleness, he exudes the confidence of one used to being obeyed.
As Aoufie watches the people around the square, he picks notices that the group that just received their tasks scurried away in a similar fashion to the way mice scattered when a cat was nearby. In fact, there was a veil of tension hanging in the air of the square, many of the citizens watching the administrator out of the corner of their eye. Whoever this man was, it was clear to see that the citizens were terrified of him.
Seeing the shift in her gaze and increased wariness he apologizes with a contrite expression."Sorry. I'm not trying to make trouble for anyone, just trying to learn the ropes is all. And I'm not sure I could explain it. I'm here and don't have much choice but to make the best of a crazy situation I don'tunderstand.* Hoping something mostly sincere would be enough to reassure her he wasn't trying to make waves. Not right this second anyway. Big question, was she a rule follower who'd flag someone down or more worried about the wrong kind of attention - maybe because she wasn't on the up and up.
Akyan takes note of the people's reaction to the administrator. Perhaps this man is also responsible for assigning punishments for those who don't complete their tasks correctly. That certainly seems the most likely due to his appearance, though perhaps that feeble form houses a skilled magic user.... Best to step lightly here it would be better to remain on this one's good side, at least for now.
He also notes the looks he's getting from the crowd versus how they seem to ignore Kora, and seeing the other races scattered around it all makes sense. He's used to odd looks, at least these are of curiosity rather than hatred and fear. While he still doesn't appreciate the attention, perhaps he'll be able to use that curiosity in some way. He wonders if Aoufie is getting similar looks, though now that he thinks about it elves in general are probably more of a rarity seeing as they have a choice in entering the dream whereas people like Aoufie do not.
Whenever Kora steps up to the administrator, Akyan will follow. It makes sense for her to lead seeing as she's likely met this man previously.
Aoufie sensing the unease from the folks nearby will now turn his attention to the Administrator. Who is this person that they strike fear in the people's hearts. I wonder what is written on that pad. He walks behind the blue robed administrator as if to admire the architecture of this area and will try to get a look at the pad without the administrator noticing.
Seeing that Aoufie was trying to get a better look at things, Kora steps up to the administrator, trying to distract him as well as her curiosity was definitely peaked. "Good morning. How are things today?" She wasn't sure how to address him, but figured she wasn't going to staight out ask for her task, maybe get him talking a bit? Though this wasn't her strong suit. She cursed herself as honestly Aoufie would have been better suited for this as she went checking things out.
The administrator looks up with a scowl at Kora's cheerful tone. "I'm doing fine," he says in a brusque manner, oblivious to Aoufie circling behind him. Aoufie can't really make out any details besides the fact that the paper on his clipboard oddly appears blank.
The man's gaze drifts to Akyan standing near Kora, and his scowl deepens. "I don't think I've ever seen a drow in I'Cath before," the man says. He lifts up a fold of his robe and tucks away his writing equipment out of sight before clasping his hands before him. "In fact, I'm quite certain." With a hard glint in his cold eyes, he says, "It will be in your best interest to explain how you got here." While the majority of the populace seemed to only be curious about Akyan's ancestry, it seems this blue-robed administrator seems to be a tad bit more curious than the others.
Kora freezes. She wants to open up her mouth and tell this person who has let the power get to his head that Akyan had just always covered up who he was, embarrassed by his dark skin and that she finally convinced him to be happy with who he is. But she knows she is an awful liar. So she keeps her mouth shut and hopes Akyan has a decent answer, she isn't sure what will happen if he doesn't.
Akyan maintains a neutral expression and shrugs. "I honestly don't know, I was hoping you could give me that answer." He keeps a level gaze towards the man. He'd never seen a drow here before, and yet he knows what a drow is. Does this mean he's from another realm? Whatever the case may be, he will continue to tread lightly. May as well sprinkle some truth into his somewhat false story. "I was hesitant to enter this...place..." He gestures around with a hand, "However, after speaking with my companion here I decided to see what it's like."He crosses his arms, closes his eyes, and shrugs again, "While I'm not to fond of all the people staring at me, at least they aren't trying to chase me out with pitchforks and torches. That alone is a refreshing change." The line may sound slightly comedic, but Akyan never changes his tone as he speaks. Opening his eyes again to look at the man, he continues in a blunt tone, "While I do appreciate not being attacked on sight, I would still like to go home. Is that possible? Or am I stuck here." He's sure most people pulled into a strange realm would like to go home. While he's sure he knows the answer, asking this question should add to the believably of his story.
Aofie tenses as Akyan is questioned and pulls out his cittern. He plucks a few chords in Pianissimo as to not startle the man in Blue robes. Aoufie gives Akyan a Bardic Inspiration which he can roll a D6 and add the result to any ability check, attack roll, or save.
Akyan notices Aoufie out of the corner of his eye, but purposefully does not address his presents as not to give it away. Though he is thankful for his siblings assistance.
Catching things beginning to go sideways quickly, Anthony looks apologetically at the older woman, "That doesn't look like it's going well. Is this where we scatter, or should I go ask for my job now?"
