Rowarin scouring for clues, he approaches the back and finds the large cracks running across the floor, towards the house and behind the cabinet.
"Yarrow, has this cabinet been moved at all? Folks, what do you make of this?" Rowarin points towards the cracks whilst crouching next to the cabinet.
"Actually, yes I do Mizu. Give me some time and I'll see if I can detect anything in the area." With this, Rowarin stands and moves away to give others room to check out the cracks. He opens his spell book and turns to the correct page. Yes, this will do the trick, he thinks to himself.
He begins reciting the incantations required, and after 10 minutes if uninterrupted, will cast Detect Magic as a ritual cast.
Kulogall watches as the others look in the area after he has heard the odd tale. “Floral smell…. How odd. Hey Mina, give me a hand here.” Kulogall asks for Mina’s help to move the cabinet where the cracks were seen, they push it together to the side to be able to see the area better. He crouches down low, putting his head nearly down to the cracks, and takes a long, deep sniff - trying to detect anything floral. Perfume. A plant, or flower?

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"Of course." Mina responds and heads over to help Kulogall move the cabinet where the cracks were, looking to the blacksmith to see if he has any objection to them moving around his furniture.
"No, I've never smelled it before, usually it's hard to smell anything other than hot iron in here..." Yarrow responds, "Yeah yeah, like a rose."Then he shakes his head, "No, I've never smelled perfume like that before. Most of the wealthier merchants tend to use fancier smells, and working class folk don't tend to bother with it unless attending a town gathering...not that those have been happening as of late."
Yarrow turns to Rixi, he's a bit hesitant to answer as he's not sure what to make of the young man, "...It was my Master, and if they tried to clean up any evidence, they did a terrible job at it." He gestures to the tools and weapons hanging from the walls, as well as those he had been using. "A lot of this stuff had been thrown around the room. Like I said, it looked like there had been a struggle. That's what I'm assuming these scratches came from, cause they sure ain't like any I've put here by accident. But i found no evidence of William."He sighs and rubs the back of his neck, "That's the story for most folks. They just up and vanish." He shakes his head, "I don't remember seeing anything like that, but to be honest I was in a bit of a panic."
He glances to Mizu, "The smell was completely gone the next morning."The young genasi doesn't seem to be able to smell anything other than the hot embers faintly glowing in the forge.
(Right now, Soma sees nothing of interest. Give me a perception check for her.)
Mina also notices the cracks at the base of the wall, in fact she notices a bit more. Some of the cracks seem to have roots poking through them...
The young blacksmith stands patiently as the group starts investigating, then looks up when Rowarin asks about the cabinet. "Huh? Oh, it was slightly out of place after that night. I pushed it back up against the wall." He doesn't object when the group starts to move it. Rather, he watches with interest. Perhaps they've found something he missed?
With Mina's help, Kulogall is able to push the left side of the cabinet away from the wall. As soon as it does so, you are all hit with the sweat and sickly smell of blood and roses. Looking down at the cracks, you all see a small, deep red rose blooming from one of cracks in the wall. It had been previously shielded by the cabinet.
Now that you can see it clearly, all of you can easily make out tiny roots and small thorny vines growing within the cracks, pushing the strong stones apart. Yarrow continues to stand back watching you with a curious and confused expression. He says nothing about the plant growing in the darkest corner of the smithy, nor the potent smell that has erupted from the thing.
Once Rowarin finishes casting his spell, he looks around the room:
Notably, there is an aura of enchantment magic hanging around Yarrow's head like a misty cloud. Turning his attention to the strange plant, he picks up two schools of magic, conjuration and necromancy.
- Uhhhm. That is weird. I guess you haven't had a rose blooming behind a cabinet for very long, right? Has this thing been growing since the night of the attack? - Leeta asks Yarrow, who strangely stands in silence after Mina and Kullogall's discovery. Shouldn't he be a little surprised? Perhaps blink a little? Or open his mouth in astonishment? - Also ... - and she sniffs - is the blood smell coming from it? Like it has absorbed the blood? The missing blood?
The halfling scratches her head, confused. She's not any good with magic nor knowledgeable about flowers, so she cannot begin to imagine how this blood-red rose has come to be.
- Does this mean we are going to find roses like this in the homes of every missing person?
(Can we roll to try to determine anything about the flower? Is it magical? How has it absorbed the blood? Where are it roots leading? Nature perhaps? 18)
“Have a look, whoa…”. Kulogall stands up, looking into the cracked area, trying to gauge the direction, straight down… or where? “I wonder where this leads…”. As he’s considering, he says “Just in case…”. Kulogall casts mage armor on himself.

Rixi raises an eyebrow at Yarrow suspiciously; It was his master that was present back then? Does that mean he might have a witness to work with in the future or not? That honestly doesn't make sense at this hour to him, but he'll decide that he'll take his word for now. "Right. I see. So you're the only person who wasn't around when this happened. Is there anyone else in this-"

(I'm envisioning this as a crack along the wall, not something wide enough for people... am I wrong?)
Mina stares at the flower, then back at Yarrow, "Is this the scent you smelled when you came back to find William? Before you shoved the cabinet over the crack?" She watches him closely as she waits for an answer.
Insight 11
Then, unless anyone stops her, she takes out her dagger and clips the rose from it's vine, seeing if there is any reaction to this.
Mizu frowns at the rose. Apparently the cabinet had been enough to mask its scent... and if Yarrow hadn't seen it there before... He tilts his head at the blacksmith, does the man really not see or smell the thing? "There is a rose growing back here. Did you not see it before?"
He eyes the thing for a moment, is it some sort of message? Or just some sort of mark? Why would the killer leave it behind?
He turns to Rowarin, waiting to see what the aasimar comes up with after his spell.
(Waiting for Gravy to push this forward, but he is performing a 10minute ritual...so ya'll would have time for this.)
(And yeah, the cracks are really small, only insects could fit through there lol)
Sort of like this. Rose growing from the floor, the roots have cracked the stone floor and foundation of the house. The smithy is a sort of add-on to the blacksmith's house.
As the group starts asking him questions, his expression changes to one of pure confusion. "What? Rose behind...i don't smell anything right now?"He walks forward to try to see through the lot of you huddled in the small corner, only to shake his head. "I don't know what made those cracks, not sure how I didn't notice them earlier?" He scratches his head then turns to Rixi, suddenly feeling like he's being accused, "William was my master, I was his only apprentice. He was the only one in the shop when this happened."He says bluntly, then turns back to the others, "Now what is this about roses?"
(I somehow missed Mina's action. And Leeta's now that I think about it.)
Leeta examines the odd plant, thinking back on her occasional botany lesson. It looks just like a regular rose, aside from the fact that it seems to be growing in complete shade...don't roses prefer sun?
Before the halfling can object, Mina slices through the roses stem with her dagger. At first nothing happens, but then you notice the smell of blood getting stronger and a thick red substance drips from the severed plant.
Mizu takes a step back from the bleeding plant, the smell seems to be getting to him. He shakes his head slightly, trying to clear away the lingering memories but with little success. Letting out a breath, both to clear the smell from his nose momentarily, and in attempt to clear his head, he forces himself to focus on the task at hand.
Looking to Yarrow, he says, "You can't see it?" He points to the fallen flowerhead, "Mina just cut it from the vine, and the smell increased because of it."He hesitantly picks up the severed flower, pinching the petals between two fingers and holding it up in front of Yarrow. "I'm holding it, can you still not see anything?" His usually placid expression is slipping towards discomfort, but he manages to keep his calm demeanor.
Leeta places a hand on Mizu's forearm. She doesn't say anything and instead just looking at him with worry in her face. But when he appears to recover and questions Yarrow once again about the rose, she calms down and looks at the blacksmith apprentice to check his reply. Had he been charmed somehow to be oblivious to the rose? Could that kind of magic really last for so long? The young halfling hoped Rowarin's ritual could cast some light on all of this.
Meanwhile, she examines the thick red substance dripping from the cut stem. Is it plain humanoid blood? Is it mixed with the flower's sap? And how the hell has it sucked it? Was it placed on the blacksmith body to do so? She knocks against the cracks in the wall trying, wondering if that part of the wall could be hollow and hiding something else apart from roots.
(A little insight on Yarrow just in case. And a perception to check the blood closely if needed. Amazing, I got two 9's. I got @aroc's curse).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
10 minutes pass and the ritual has completed. Closing his spell book, Rowarin stands back up and peers around the room, taking in new sensations and... gahh what is that smell?
Peering towards the now moved cabinet (When did that happen, Rowarin wonders) he can see the rose stem that has been cut and seeping, blood... But it isn't this that takes him by surprise, but the powerful aura's emanating from the rose itself. Magic! "Whoa, Mina, that rose is seeped in magic! Conjuration and... necromancy it looks like. Strong auras too!"
Hoping to find out what kind of magic specifically could these auras be, Rowarin thinks back on his training and understanding of the magical arts: Arcana: 20
Surprised that he found something, he turns to Yarrow to speak with him when he is taken aback - the aura around Yarrow, like a mist clouding the young man's head. Enchantment magic!
"Yarrow, are you feeling light-headed or fuzzy at all? Why don't you sit down please?" Rowarin glides towards Yarrow, pulling a chair and guiding him to sit. He turns to the others "Umm so I am also sensing another kind of magic. Enchantment." But Rowarin says this standing behind Yarrow and pointing to him, letting everyone else know he is referring to Yarrow. "Does anyone know a way to break such a spell?"
Rowarin has an idea to delve a little deeper, but he waits to see if anyone has alternative options to break the enchantment.
As the group starts asking him questions, his expression changes to one of pure confusion. "What? He was the only one in the shop when this happened."He says bluntly, then turns back to the others, "Now what is this about roses?"
That sudden accusation took Rixi aback as he suddenly whips his head back towards him. He hadn't even finished speaking his mind yet since he was interrupted by his sworn enemies. This isn't right. What was that sudden mood shift over something passive he was trying to ask for? Though Rixi's investigative skills aren't the best in this group, he can already feel some tension emaciating from the half-orc, especially when he hears Rowarin pointing out that his head is surrounded by enchantment magic. He's not a Wizard like him or Raiden, so he can't dispel the magic. But maybe he should try and make him shift his focus on himself alone, in case the others have plans to try and find ways to eliminate the spell upon him without harming himself in the process.
"Hang on a second... one moment you appeared to be a little nervous and now you're starting to sound irritated? I wasn't even close to accusing you. But... I take it that we might be getting on your nerves right? No... Could it be... because of the rose..."He shifts his left hand (his dominant hand) close to his left thigh in case. "... are you hiding something from us? It took a long time to notice that these strange, toxic flowers were seeping through the cracks of your shed. Are you not admitting that there is something hidden about this place or William that neither of us should know? If that's so then spit it out! We're not here to play games right now! We need concrete, truthful facts and not just your abstract ideas or something like that!"

Mina snatches her hand away that is holding the rose when Mizu tries to snatch it, "Hey now! Don't go being all grabby." and she plucks a couple petals and hands them to him.
She looks over the rose, not understanding how it could eminate such magic. Walking over to Rowarin, she holds it out, "did you want to see it? Will that help?"
As Rowarin says that Yarrow is possibly enchanted, she forgets her rose and heads over to the half-orc. Circling him and looking him up and down in a very uncomfortable manner, she finally pauses and says, "I can try this, though I'm not sure it will help..." standing behind Yarrow, she puts her hand on his shoulder and casts protection from evil and good.

She looks over the rose, not understanding how it could eminate such magic. Walking over to Rowarin, she holds it out, "did you want to see it? Will that help?"
As Rowarin says that Yarrow is possibly enchanted, she forgets her rose and heads over to the half-orc. Circling him and looking him up and down in a very uncomfortable manner, she finally pauses and says, "I can try this, though I'm not sure it will help... " standing behind Yarrow, she puts her hand on his shoulder and casts protection from evil and good.
