Mender would look to the map on the table and then to Mimzy. "Open the map Mimzy! Let's see where we are going!" The kobold would shout a little louder than intended. He would quickly move to the table and rest his snout on its edge. He would slowly extend his hands towards the map... eagerly awaiting the opportunity to begin their adventure. "Is the town close? can we get there today?" He would ask as he struggles to keep himself from climbing on to the table to open it himself.
Mimzy after getting a bite to eat, well a bit of spiced Haggish rum, from Griselda's top Mimzy runs across the boys gathered around together as they look at the map left behind and hears Mender mention that her mother left it for her. "How about you just hold on to that map for me, Mender? We Faires have map allergies don't you know. And speaking of allergies, Fairies also mirror allergies so I hope you don't mind taking charge of a necrotic-cootie-infected hand mirror... for safe keeping. Otherwise, if you don't want to deal with it, I guess I can toss it into the pit of despair out back. That's where the first cursed dollie my mother gave me ended up. She's probably still down there enjoying a nice tea party with that cursed tea set I imagine. What can I say, mother always had a thing for cursed objects."Mimzy giggled, "so what's it to be Mender, a BOGO suit you? If you want it... then speak up now and I'll get it out of my bag of holding. If not, then the pit it is. Oh yeah... I also have a pair of Swamp Soles if you or anyone needs them."
Then she turns to Mugwort messing around with the loaner flying broom, "I believe the command words you're looking for is bibbidi bobbidi boo," She said shaking her head, "I keep telling Mother not to use the same command words for different magic items but will she listen to me... no... She's too old school for that. And what do you mean, Anglor is basically the worst of the worst Goblin criminal elements? Isn't that where you're from? Seems like the last time we were there; we had a great time, remember? I'm all for another visit to Tickled Toad!"
Sorry for being wordy, just trying to get caught up...
"sure, I'll take the map and the mirror if they are a package deal." Mender would reply cautiously. "I mean you are still alive so it cannot be THAT cursed." He would add as he took the map and spread it out across the table.
"OK, so we are here... and the city is here..." He would mumble as he moved his clawed finger across the map. As he slid his finger, he would stop on the ruins located in between the two points. "Hey, do any of you know anything about these ruins? There could be some good stuff in there... items that could help us to beat up some buckle bullies and kick a monster out of a spirit pool.... maybe?" He would ask, looking to each if his companions. What donyou all think?
As you talk, you begin to hear the creaking of trees and violent swishing of leaves outside... perhaps a storm has struck. Both Mimzy and Mugwort are likely to know more about the ruins (DC 12 History check) though Kaelroc might as well, for different reasons (DC 14 History check for the goliath).

Mimzy History Check:16
If successful Mimzy will not hold anything back and share all she knows or has heard about the area and the ruins.
Mimzy grinned at the Kobold, "Well I am a Celestia Fairy after all or maybe I'm just smarter than the average Fairy when it comes to curses and wanting no part of them." Mimzy said as she took out her Bag of Holding and opened it letting Mender take a look inside, "That's the hand mirror there gift-wrapped in a bundle of clothes, my apologies that I failed to tie a little pink bow around it. Do you need me to remove it for you... or do you have the matter well in hand? In any event, it's yours. I desire no part of it and my dear Mother will be better off without it."
"Ok... So I just reach in there?" The kobold would ask as he slid his hand inside the bag. Once his hand was inside he would feel around the inside and grasp the first thing that felt like the object described by Mimzy. After pulling the object out, he would leave it wrapped in the bundle of cloth and lay it on the table. "So do you KNOW this is a cursed mirror.. or do you just think it is?" Nender would ask as he pulls out his ornate book. He would then flip through the pages until pointing to a section of text with his clawed finger. "hold on a bit.. while you guys are working on our game plan, let me take a few minutes to try to identify this thing...
He would then cast the identity spell as a ritual to see of the item was magical and or cursed..
With a History check of 16, Mimzy is able to recall what a passing merchant had told her about the ruins. Supposedly, they are the remnants of a monastery which was looted long ago. While abandoned, these ruins are rumored to house all manner of different ghosts and ghouls. It is no site to be approached flippantly.
~~
I believe Mender lacks the 100gp diamond pearl component required for identify. Perhaps the kobold would care to make an Arcana check instead.
Mender would say the words and focus hard on the mirror... waiting for something to happen... and then waiting a bit longer... "Something isn't right..." He would grumble before looking at the book once more. "Damn it! I didn't see the fine print. none of you happen to have a 100gp pearl on you do you? He would ask in frustration before thinking hard about any magic items he may have read about in the past or hear about from Ragmar. As he thought about the mirror he would mutter a few words in draconic asking for guidance..
Mender... Calling upon the weave for guidance, you are struck with a sudden jolt of clarity. It is the arcane equivalent of gulping ice-cold water to slake your parched throat. The first thing to note is the surface of the mirror, which gently ripples when touched but otherwise remains motionless in its frame. Also, the necromantic energy suffusing the item gives it a... darker edge. It does reflect its physical surroundings like an ordinary mirror, but there is a nigh-imperceptible penumbra which seems to flicker 'between' its layers. It a strange phenomenon, and difficult to describe.

"Well... there is definitely SOMETHING going on with this mirror..." Mender would say as he wrapped it back in its cloth. He would then place it in his pack, making sure that it was tightly packed away. "I don't know if it is good or bad... but it is magical... and magical things are expensive. we may be able to trade it for some coin or useful items if needed... and who knows, maybe I'll find an expensive pearl and I can properly identify it once and for all." The kobold give his pack a good pat before sliding it over his shoulder.
"Hey Mimzy and Mugwort... you ever find any pearla out here in the swamp? I know we uses to fond them in class in the ocean sometimes... are there clams out here too?" He would ask before looking over the map once more.
Try as he might, Mugwort is unable to accurately calculate the distances - perhaps the goblin is holding the map upside down?

It is approaching mid-morning. The wind outside still howls ferociously, sending a steady and uncomfortable draught through the crack in the cavernous wall. How do you wish to proceed?

Hi there! I'm a Christian musician based in Canada :)
He was checking to see if this 'sudden' weather is normal for this time of year or not. And.. .Nope. This is just another day in the swamps. *facepalm*
Watching Mugwort, Kaelroc looks at the map and notices there is a small mark that helps him realize the approximate size of things. Survival check = 11. Looking at Mugwort - Maybe we should use the scale at the bottom or whatever this marking is used for?
I have a magic weather rock that tells me the weather outside if I place it outside. Griselda gave it to me when we first met. If the rock is wet, it is raining, if it is moving, it is windy. If it is hot when you touch it - it is sunny, and if it is white it is snowy. Do you want to borrow it Mugwort?
Mugwort takes a deep sighing breath, "Thank you Kaelroc, but it is not necessary. For some reason, my connection with Nature and the swamp is failing me this morning. Perhaps as the day progresses I will come back to myself."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mender would grin was Kaelroc deciphered the Map before turningbaround and pulling out his weather reader. "That... is pretty nice there Kaelroc" He would say with a smile. before looking back to the map.

Mugwort History Check: 17
Mugwort looks at the map. "These odd marking patterns... they signify distance? "
(he should kind of sort of know how long it might take to get from 'the hut' to the ruins and ruins to Mermosapolis...)
(( OOC: I am guesstimating that it would take more than a single day to 'travel' even the easy routes due to SWAMP conditions. ))
Mender...

Roll a Survival check (DC 10) to determine how accurately you can gauge the distances shown on the map.
