Kaelroc is walking in the front, but not holding the map. He has a long stick that he is using as his personal depth gauge and letting the smaller folks to use him as their depth gauge as he sinks into the various mucks and muds. It is apparent to the group as they see him trudge through - that he is not phased by his once very clean armor being muddied. His whip he has coiled around his upper torso and shoulder - his bag he has also strapped over his shoulder protecting them from the water. In the deeper areas of the swamp he offers to let the non flying folks a lift so they dont have to swim.
The more shallow portions of the swamp, you can see his massive footprint being left with extremely deep impressions left behind. The goliath clearly weighs more than the rest of the group - combined.
Muddied, sweaty and worn-out, each of you follows Kaelroc onto a rocky bank at the heart of a shadowy clearing. Settling down to catch a breath, you can see Mugwort become increasingly frustrated as his big yellow eyes dart back and forth between the map and his surroundings...

Hi there! I'm a Christian musician based in Canada :)
It quickly becomes apparent you have strayed off course - but with the tangled thicket obscuring the light where you are stationed, it is hard to gauge by how far.
Fon, Kaelroc, Mender and Mugwort, whose passive perceptions are each 12 or above... As you rest, the thud of your heartbeat abates and nearby sounds become more discernable. Somewhere in the undergrowth, you hear a curious, insect-like buzz... it comes and goes in pulses. How is it you wish to continue?
Kaelroc let's his whip be readied and loosely hold his shield. Listening. Attempting to understand what is making the noise. He directs his voice to everyone. "What is this?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Upon reaching the rocky bank, Mender would collapse across the stones. "Here Mugwort... why don't you see if we are still on track.. maybe you or mimzy could fly up above the trees and make sure we are on the right course. "He would say in-between deep breaths.
The kobold freezes upon hearing the buzzing sound nearby. "I don't know..." Mender replies casting a glance to Kaelroc. "Maybe it is just a bug?" After a moment or two, he would mutter a few words as he asked Doltryp for guidance while trying to think back to the books he had read and the different noises he had heard back on the island... trying to determine if he had heard a buzzing like that before.
Not sure if it would be history or nature... History? 23 Nature? 8 plus Guidance 4
Kaelroc... attempting to understand what is making the noise directs his voice to everyone. "What is this?"As Mimzy becomes aware of the insect-like buzz listening as she checks her immediate surroundings Survival for animals like mink, raccoons, opossums, muskrats, beavers, frogs, turtles, birds, and insects, etc. which tend to be extremely common in marshlands. Once a suitable animal is located Mimzy will make use of her Eldritch Invocation Speak with Animals and attempt to use her Fairy Persuasion to communicate with it and ask its assistance in determining what the sound is and any immediate dangers that might be lurking in the undergrowth being a little concerned that might be near a Stirge nest or something similar.
Mender... With a history check of 20, you force yourself to recall all the different types of bug and beast which made their home on or passed over your beach. This buzz sounds distinctly like dragonfly wings, but... louder.
Mimzy... Looking about, you catch sight of a wetland shrew tetchily storming through the undergrowth. He seems surprised to hear you speaking his tongue. "Wh- uh, no cat-dammit" - this phrase gives you a little insight into the religious beliefs of such creatures - "I am merely passing through here. It could be a stirge nest, yes. Now if you will excuse me..." he hurriedly remarks, scurrying off about his business.
"it sounds a bit like... dragonfly wings" Mender would whisper.. looking to his companions before turning to face the sound. "But a lot louder." He would add as he slowly pulls out the curved rod from his belt.
As suddenly as it had appeared, the sound is quelled...
Mimzy watched as the shrew began to scurry off and warned critter, "my friends and I just came from that direction so you might want to be careful, the big hungry bobcat but always welcome to travel with us for a while. Are you hungry, what's your name, I'm Mimzy by the way." Then she turns to her companions, "I don't hear anything now but maybe it's a good idea we just circle that area just in case."
Note that if the shrew is in a hurry and continues on Mimzy will turn her attention to the area the sound was coming from and look for the best way to detour around, just put a little more space between them, or least her if others are not as concerned as she is.
The shrew pauses for a second and turns back to nod at you. "That is a kind offer, but my wife is having her first shrewlets... I really must be off." He does, however, alter his course at the mention of 'bobcat'.
Mender would watch as the fairy swoops down into the undergrowth and begins squeaking at the small creature. "I'll have to add that to my book once we know it's safe..." He would whisper to his companions.
"Mugwort, were you able to determine where we are?" Mender would ask the goblin as he poked his head over this shoulder to sneak a peak at the map. He would place a hand on Mugwort's shoulder and ask for guidance to help figure out how to get back on track. If his small green friend continues to struggle, he would ask Mimzy if she wanted to come HELP out and give it a shot.
Mugwort turns the map right side up and right side down as he slowly spins in place. Totally frustrated he comes to a decision. "I think I need to fly up and see if I can get oriented." He will lay the broom of flying down and stand astride of it. Speaking the magic activation words, 'bibbidi bobbidi boo' the broom should rise slowly.
DEXTERITY Check: 13
ACROBATICS check: 9 (( so no loop da loops! ))
In fits and starts, the broom and it's rider go up, jerk forward, stops, goes lower and then higher. Little by little, Mugwort gets the feel for the broom... and VERY basic flying. Once happy that he has it 'under control, he will work upward until he is wel above the vegetation of the area. Then consulting the map and comparing it to what he sees, Mugwort will attempt to get their swamp walk back on track or at least, headed in the proper direction.

Mimzy gives Mender a Fairy wink when asked to check the map and help get the group back on track then flies up towards Mugwort to get a lay of the land to compare with what the map shows.
Mugwort almost swats at the noise beside him before pulling back when he realizes it is Mimzy coming up to survey the situation. "I can almost see where your home is..." he tries to point and quickly grabs the broomstick again.
Slowly spinning in place, he points the handle 180 degrees from that home speck. "I THINK we go on this way but it is really hard to find waypoints or prominent landmarks from up here... or, at least anything we could see from on the ground."
It is a wobbly and precarious ascent for Mugwort. As he speaks the key phrase, the broom jitters and jerks like a bull trying to fling his rodeo rider, though after several seconds of mutiny it yields to the goblin's will. Slowly he rises up, up, up into the trees, winds through their intertwining, thorny branches, and emerges from the canopy into the battering squalls of the sky. As Mimzy flits up to join Mugwort and the old friends survey the landscape from above, they see the pink glare of the noonday sun sparkle across the marsh for miles. There is a beauty to the scene, a cruel beauty.
Between the goblin's map-reading and the fairy's 17 survival, it is decided the party has wound up too far North... this will cost some travel time.
With this in mind, do you wish to hurry on your way or investigate the strange buzzing? Or perhaps there is something else you wish to do?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After both Mugwort and Mimzy soar upwards, Mender would very slowly and carefully try to sneak towards the sound of the buzzing.... interested to see if there is a giant dragonfly over there.... "Help me to be quiet" he would whisper into his shell as he asked for guidance..
