You hear shouted commands in Goblin and the rattle of chains, which is evidently the sound of two mangy looking wolves being released as you see them bound into the chamber, red maws agape, and hunger in their eyes. As soon as they appear, Alden looses a shaft which buries itself deep into the foremost creature, eliciting a yelp of pain. As crazed as it is by hunger and the abuse doled out by its Goblin captors, it comes on, seeking flesh.
In the dim light of the tunnel behind the wolves, two more goblin guards approach somewhat more warily.

Aeran braces himself, his grip tightening around the sword hilt and the shield, preparing himself mentally and physically for whatever comes next.
At the sight of the two hungry wolves, his face darkens again. These filthy goblins and their torture on other creatures again...
Unfortunately, with the way things are, the paladin concludes it is best to finish the animal's misery, so the path towards the rest of the attackers is cleared. And so, Aeran attacks the wounded wolf after Alden.
The furry assailant is moving deceptively fast and Aeran is not able to time his swing to hit it. Both wolves continue to barrel toward the nearest targets, being Lukuth and Aeran.
Erk looks on, his eyes darting about nervously, but he does not attempt to do anything. Whilst Willow advances somewhat menacingly toward the two captives (menacing only because they have seen her electrocute their comrades, in all other respects she is an adorable tabby cat), Mara whirls and fires a mote of fire from the tip of her staff toward the wounded wolf.

"Oh shit!" says Mara, flinching as the arrow flies past her ear before clamping a hand to her mouth as if to push the profanity back in. Absurd as it is in this life and death situation, she still feels that such language should not be for public consumption. The arrow clatters into the wall behind her and drops harmlessly to the ground.
As the first wolf, with Alden's feathered shaft protruding from its shoulder, barrels past Aeran's swing, Sildar steps across and slashes at it twice with Erk's scimitar. The blade flashes in the torchlight as it moves faster than the eye can see. Sildar is clearly a very capable swordsman.
Having got lucky with the first shaft, Mara fails to take cover or make herself a smaller target. The second arrow slams into her chest and she stumbles backward a step before sitting heavily down on her backside. She looks down at the shaft protruding from her body as blood starts to spread across her blue dress. Her mouth makes a surprised O shape, then, her eyes roll back in her head and she slumps to the side, unconscious.
The two wolves both connect with their targets, tearing and rending flesh. The taste of blood sends them into even more of a frenzy and they redouble their efforts to make a meal of these intruders.
Gasping like he were the one wounded, Mayres staggered back from the wolves’s brutal attack. Hitting the stone wall behind him, he pressed himself to it, and then froze. Quivering like a cornered rabbit, the wizard made no attempts to move nor protect himself. How could he when his memories were dragging him under the ocean, drowning him like a riptide?

Back to Alden. As MrK hasn't posted at all on the forums since 4 Feb, I'll roll for Alden again. He was the only one to hit anything last time round, let's hope he can do it again!
Assuming Alden drank the healing potion when he had a chance: 8
Slinging his longbow, Alden leaps from the ledge. As he drops, he simultaneously draws both his shortswords and lands on top of the injured wolf, his weight and momentum adding to the ferocity of his strikes.
One of Alden's blades finds its mark, bringing the unfortunate creature's life to a close. Alden is now crouched atop its corpse, at eye level with its companion which has just savaged Lukuth.

Aeran winces and steps back, as a wave of pain washes over him. He almost falls back from the force of the attack against him, but somehow manages to keep his balance. Thankfully, at least one of the wolves is now dead, so the paladin focuses on the second one.
Attack: 24 Damage: 15

Aeran Dormaris - L2 Paladin on his way to Phandelver

These wolves seem to have a supernatural ability to move before they can be hit. Only Alden has successfully landed a blow.
Erk, in the absence of anyone directly guarding him, starts making moves to try and shift the bonds holding his wrists, and motioning for the other goblin on the ledge to help him. Both are a given pause in their activities by the approach of Willow, teeth bared and hackles up. Merely a cat, perhaps, but one who has been seen to deal magical damage to their comrades.
Mara death save #1: 18
Goblin2 fired another arrow from the tunnel, aimed at Alden this time: Attack: 5 Damage: 4
The goblin arrow flies past Alden, who doesn’t notice as he is applying to coup de grace to the first wolf.
This time Sildar’s blade parts wolf flesh once, twice in quick succession. The animal whines in pain and shrinks back. Outnumbered and surrounded, it seems to be losing its fight.
