Lola looks thoughtful, her brow furrowed. "I suppose you're right, Aeleth. We need to do whatever it takes to save Gundren and protect the innocent. But we must also be careful not to become monsters ourselves."
Aeleth smiles reassuringly. "Of course, Lola. We will always strive to uphold our principles, but we will not allow our moral compass to be our downfall. We will strike the Redbrands a decisive blow, but we will do so with honor and respect for the lives of the innocent."
Merric, who continues to demonstrate a good knowledge of the village of Phandalin, guides you confidently into a narrow space between two poor houses which are located in front of the 'Sleeping Giant', a rundown and dirty tap house the end of Phandalin's main street which, the halfling assures you, it is regularly frequented by Redbrand thugs.
"When they emerge from the 'Sleeping Giant'," he murmurs, as you take positions, Lola and Sildar ahead, blocking the space between the two houses, the rest of you behind them, so you can attack from a distance without the enemies can reach you "they will be drunk from what they drank... or at least happy to have relaxed. They will have their guard down. We should be able to surprise them. As soon as I see them, I will send an arrow of mine to say hello - that will be the signal!" his voice betrays the fact that he is waiting with anticipation for that moment... Merric must really be angry with these bandits "Then, attack them too!"
"Do you really want to free Phandalind from this plague!" Lola is impressed. "It's truly a noble purpose."
Sildar, however, more perplexed, says nothing.
Minutes pass and, in fact, at a certain point, a group of four scruffy guys emerge from the 'Sleeping Giant', all wearing grimy scarlet cloaks. They talk loudly and laugh out loud, while joking with each other. The other passers-by avoid them and give way to them. Merric draws his bow... and releases an arrow, muttering at you all: "It's them! Attack!"
Aeleth, having carefully examined the situation, decides that the best course of action is to remain at a distance and attack the Redbrands with his shortbow. He is a skilled archer and he knows that he can do more damage from a distance than he could in melee combat.
Aeleth takes a deep breath and steadies his hand on the grip of his shortbow. He raises the bow and takes aim at the closest Redbrand, a burly man with a shaved head and a cruel sneer on his face.
The arrows of the halfling and the elf hit the unfortunate shaved-headed bandit practically at the same time, in two different points of the chest, piercing the studded leather of the armor. The Redbrand falls to the ground, clutching his chest and dies spitting blood on the street.
Before the others can recover, Torrga invokes her god, Marthammor Duin, and a flame-like radiance descends on another ruffian, a tall, blond boy.
The sacred light burns the ruffian, who screams in pain, while the stretches of exposed skin, in the places where they were directly hit, have evident burn marks... it even seems that a light smoke rises from the wounds!
Lola balances a javelin in her hand and, quickly aiming, throws it at the same criminal.
However, the tip of the javelin unfortunately hits a stud on the big blonde boy's armor and, even though it deals him a strong blow, it fails to penetrate.
It is then that Sildar fires a bolt with his Heavy Crossbow...
...The large bolt hits the Redbrand right in the face, practically making his head explode. The big blonde boy is unrecognizable when he falls into the dust like a puppet.
Of the four criminals, only two remained alive! They are trying to understand what happened...
[[ Now Round 2 starts! No more surprise, so, please, roll for Initiative ]]
Aeleth sees the Redbrand grunt in pain and quickly takes advantage of the opportunity. He raises his shortbow and takes aim at the other Redbrand, the one with haunted azure eyes.
Haunted Eyes Redbrand too cries out in pain, clutching his leg.
At that point the Redbrand with the Broken Nose grits his teeth, pulls out a shortsword and launches himself towards you! Lola and Sildar block his path and the bandit tries to get rid of them with two quick lunges...
