"Personally I'm not sure Godrick should be left alone with something as dangerous as a choking hazard, much less an agent of Firion. But, assuming that the buffoonery we've seen so far is just his way of coping with his curse...and let's be honest, we've all had to find our own ways to cope...why should we trust him? He wasn't at the temple of Ilmater. He didn't fight the cultists in the woods. He attacked the spy in a way that would insure he wasn't killed by incapacitating the rest of us. Why should we believe that this isn't the lie and he really is working for Firion as well?"
She turns an openly accusing gaze at the Dragonborn.
"You're a preceptor, Duwamilly, stop mothering him and look at it logically."
"So, in order" Duwamilly begins, responding first to Yasmina "jokes help not only the mission, but life itself - because, believe me, living without good humor can perhaps be surviving... but it cannot be defined as living".
"The fact that Godrick attempted to make a joke of an insult he received - rather than stooping to respond - makes him better in my eyes, not worse".
"My hypothesis to mislead Firion? Making him believe that we no longer felt safe on the ship after discovering the spy and had moved to another Plane (leaving him to guess whether that meant we were trying to get to the Shaded Isle from there or had changed destination). If it doesn't seem plausible to you, never mind, let's not do it. It's not that I'm offended. It was meant as a try, not a sure win".
"Why do I find it less likely that anyone could be turned by Firion using magic? Because I think that if he could do it from distance, he would have already done it to us. It's hard for me to think that with a Sending Stone he could do it and without one he couldn't. A Sending Stone, as far as I know, allows us to exchange words, not to convey magical effects. And if Firion can't do it, he can't do it either to us or to Godrick. But I'm not an expert in magic. I could be wrong, I admit it. We believe it's a too big risk? By all means, let's not take it. Fine".
The gnome cleric passes to Godrick: "Stop arguing now? Yes, that seems like quite a sensible suggestion to me".
The ex-preceptor passes to Delvindra: "I think we will be more likely to succeed by collaborating, among us fellow accursed, than by despising or accusing each other. He attacked the spy in a way that would insure he wasn't killed? If we had killed the spy, we could not have had his cooperation. Not now, not ever. At the moment, if we can bring the spy to Lord Akkron and have him freed from the spell, the spy could instead collaborate with us spontaneously. So the fact that Godrick 'had him captured alive' is certainly not an indication of guilt. Plus, on the contrary, the fact that there was a spy is an indication against the possible guilt of Godrick - because if Godirck was Firion's spy, Firion shouldn't have bothered to infiltrate the one who replaced Rupert. Not to mention, that, if one really decides to accuse Godrick at all costs, then at least they have to make up their mind... either they accuse him of lacking intellect, or they accuse him of being a spy. The two things together are not compatible. This, honestly, seems to me like 'look at it logically', Delvindra, honey".
"Anyway, kids..." Duwamilly takes her leave "I think I'll follow the most sensible advice I've heard so far - that is, to stop arguing. It's not worth it, for a mere attempt at misdirection. Forget it. I'm going back upstairs to enjoy the view. There will be far too much time for trouble... and, when that time comes, we will probably have better hopes together. By collaborating and trusting in each other. Or at least that's my opinion".
Then, once back upstairs, away from the stench of distrust and irritation, the breeze once again pushes the scent of Lord Amir's gift to Planerunner's nostrils. 'It's as if it were... the scent of joke' she smiles, admiring the eternal movement of the waves.
Throwing his hands over his head, he walks himself to the corner of the room, and slides down the wall to the floor.
Wrapping himself into a ball, he starts rocking back and forth, and puffs smoke start to stream from his nostrils.
OOC: IDK if I'm allowed to do this, but I'm gonna throw in a DC 10 perception check to see what's going on with Godrick. Wyvern would be able to see the spoiler without doing the check, as she knows what's happening to him.
It seems Godrick is having a panic attack. You can see that red embers seem to be coming out with the smoke from his nostrils.
You can see by his tense muscles and slight arm twitches that he is holding back the rage typical of a Barbarian.
Delvindra wanders over to the Dragonborn and kneels down, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Godrick, honey, it's okay. Don't cry. I'm sorry we were so harsh with you. Yasmina, Duwamilly, and I have been through a lot together. Even when we don't agree, we know that we can count on each other in a fight. Here's the thing, though. When I needed to count on you, you webbed me to a wall and left me helpless. You very nearly did the same to all of us. It's only by Ilmater's blessing that we're even here to have this conversation..."
Godrick glares at you with an unhinged, if not feral look in his eyes.
Godrick snarls, "Like I said, I couldn't see you because it was literally pitch black. Now, I don't like getting like this, and I... appreciate you trying to calm me down. So please, I beg you, get away from me and get Wyvern over here now, before I lose control and I do something I regret."
This is a side of Godrick you've never seen before. As side that looks... mean? Angry? Unhinged? It's something you would've never thought capable by him, but the look in his eye scares you. Not for you own safety, but for Godrick's.
Delvindra throws a concerned look in Yasmina's direction, unsure of what to do but quite certain she doesn't feel safe leaving the two alone together...
Yasmina simply rolls her eyes as the ex-preceptor claims her jokes actually help the mission. She was so sure of herself and assumed quite a lot, like that her jokes was appreciated by everyone. As the gnome leaves the Half-Elf sighs, looking over at the other two. Milly had still not answered what made her trust Godrick, but by not answering it she had sort of answered it anyway.
As the Dragonborn breaks down and curls up in a corner the red-haired Half-Elf sighs again. They would have to hope everyone on this journey was kind to each other or the Dragonborn might apparently be out of it. The Dragonborn then glaring up at Delvindra with an unhinged look wasn't really reassuring either but maybe the cousin was the one to talk some sense into him. "I'll fetch your cousin for you." Yasmina says with a nod to the Dragonborn and then a quick smile to the Tiefling before turning and heading up on deck.
The wind on deck was refreshing but she couldn't spot Lord Amir anywhere. He must have returned to his palace willingly, or his time was simply up. She would have to wait until next evening to leave then it seemed. With another sigh she walks about until she spots Wyvern, explaining her cousin needs her below without elaborating on why. Yasmina then pulls her hood up and lets her boots take her up to somewhere up within the riggings where she could stay away for a while.
(OOC: to keep things moving I'm going to go ahead and bot Wyvern briefly since she hasn't posted since 1/6/2024. I'll keep it brief to avoid robbing her player of agency as much as possible)
Yasmina easily finds Wyvern, who rushes to Godrik's side to try and calm him down. She speaks softly to him, doing her best to reassure him, stroke his ego, and do whatever it takes to cool his simmering wrath.
As the day continues, all of you may notice that the crew are starting to avoid you. Some perhaps saw the argument between Yasmina and Godrik and wish to avoid getting caught in the fray. Or perhaps their unease stems from the fact that one of their crewmates was killed presumably because of your presence. Whatever the reason, the air is thick with tension.
However, the rest of the day passes more-or-less uneventfully (I kind of assume that you decided against trying to give Firion a call, but correct me if I'm wrong), and you settle in for the night.
Sensing the mood of the sailors, Duwamilly, when possible, tries to do something to improve it... either by chatting with them (in moments when they are not busy, of course) about pleasant things that distract them or by telling a joke to those who like it to listen to her... more for their good than hers - she already has her problems with the curse and with Firion, it certainly won't be the distrust of some sailors that will make things worse for her. But she would not want them, already tested by a life of hard daily work and looming dangers (either given by the elements, such as the sea, or by the human factor, such as possible pirates), to be further tested by other tensions. She would like to be able to give them a few moments of lightheartedness...
In the evening, the gnome cleric remains on the bridge for a long time contemplating the stars, enjoying the ephemeral peace of the firmament and the intimate communion with her god. When it gets too late, she retreats to sleep.
[[ All this, of course, unless someone interacts with her in a way that makes her change plans ]]
Delvindra decides that she doesn't particularly care what the crew thinks about her. She's a passenger, not part of the crew, they only have to tolerate each other for a little while.
She gives Godrick and Duwamilly a wide berth as well. Godrick due to her apprehension about whatever it was that she saw in him yesterday (another aspect of his curse, perhaps?) and Milly because she just knows that the gnome will try and fix things and she's in no mood to pretend she feels like making peace.
She spends much of her day on deck practicing her slow katas. The novelty of the sea has worn off and she's starting to feel cooped up. Physical activity is her release from boredom and the sense of captivity...
After Godrick's near-mental breakdown, he heads to his cabin, locking himself away for the day, and night, and next day as well, only opening the door when Wyvern or Milly brings him food and water, for he needs to keep up his strength for the trials to come.
Oh, Duwamilly will worry about Godrick, if the next day she finds he's locked himself in his cabin... she will probably try to comfort him and, unless it seems to her too that the poor dragonborn needs solitude and rest above all, perhaps she will try to convince him to keep her company on the deck. but I'm waiting for the DM to narrate if something happens during the night/next day, before deciding the ex-Preceptor's actions in detail.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Yasmina would stay away from the others for now, staying hidden and finding somewhere hidden on the ship to rest, awaiting Lord Amir's return the next day.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Delvindra will worry about Yasmina but will certainly respect her desire for space...unless she starts skipping meals. In that case, she'll take a plate of food and go looking for the Half-Elf.
(Perception, if needed based on the above conditions 13)
Didi will also take turns guarding the prisoner with Cal.
It is late when Delvindra finally finds Yasmina, only partly covered by her magical cloak, huddled up among some barrels and thick ropes in the main cargo hold. The red-haired Half-Elf is already asleep, although it doesn't seem to be a restful one.
(Feel free to proceed, whatever rp might come out of this sould be handled as we go on I think :-)
Seeing the sleeping Half-Elf, Delvindra leaves the food nearby and quietly goes to fetch her things from the room. She tucks Yasmina in with the blankets from her bedroll and sits with her until exhaustion takes over and she falls asleep by her side.
You all get a relatively uninterrupted night of sleep. The next day goes more-or-less uneventfully. Milly did her best to engage with the crew, and they were for the most part courteous to her whenever she managed to corner one of them.
The prisoner remains motionless in his cell, simply staring at whoever is on guard duty. Though he says nothing, you get a feeling that he knows something... something terrible... but he could not speak it to you even if he wanted to.
Is there anything that anyone would like to over the course of day 2, before nightfall?

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
If no one does anything to Godrick (although I do know that Milly said they would like to), Godrick will wait for nightfall (although not until the next morning)
