The camp is quite safe, and Korba sees no signs of additional hidden enemies. If there were any, the fire from the sky likely scared them off. As he scans the area, he glances at the pile of items that the cultist was examining and suddenly realizes something:
Being a naturally magical being who has made a mystic pact, you recognize some of the objects as magic items.
Pushing the soot and burn off the pile of items with his sheathed sword, Korba peers through his dark glasses at the pile of items that the bandits seem to have collected, feeling a tingle along the scars under his clothing, and says to the group, "Who's got an eye for the arcane? I feel something here, but can't identify exactly what it's coming from."

For a split second, Hewelathan worries that one of his magic items somehow super-changed his create bonfire spell. As soon as he created a fire around the cultist, fire seemed to erupt across the entire campsite. He's close enough to feel the heat of it, and unfortunately, he's close enough to see one of the bandits die right in front of him.
As the fire fades, leaving only the afterimage, Jodie's song and her final "fire" finally make it through his shocked brain. Hewelathan understands that this spell was her doing, and he reminds himself that he really needs to ask his companions about the true extent of the powers that they possess.
Hewelathan walks forward numbly and goes to the bandit who was near him to check whether the man is still alive. ("But how could anyone survive such a spell?!", he wonders.) He checks the charred body to see whether there are any possessions or anything else of note that survived the fire or that could identify the man. Investigation18
Then Hewelathan finally looks up and looks around at the burning trees and campsite. He sees that Korba is already checking the cultist's body near the burning tent, and Jodie is singing another song nearby. He sees a strange woman standing in the middle of the camp, but then recognizes Rhaenys's staff. The look on her face matches the numb shock that he feels. As he passes her, he reaches out and puts his hand on her forearm for a moment, looks at her silently, and then squeezes briefly before letting go.
Not seeing the others, Hewelathan calls out, "Flinn? Tytus? Are you OK?!" Assuming that he hears form them, he stows his moon sickle and shield and focuses on the fires at first, not knowing that Jodie will be putting them out.
Several crates, two tents, and a couple trees catch fire after Jodie rains fire down upon everything... Fortunately, she quickly begins working on setting things right by conjuring up a massive rainstorm to prevent a forest fire.
Hewelathan checks the two burning tents to ensure that no living creature is inside either one. If he finds anyone or anything inside those tents, he brings it out first. Then he briefly checks all of the tents to see who or what is inside each of them and scans the area for anyone other than his companions and the two freed captives. Perception18
By the time Hewelathan is done with that, the rain is probably already falling, but he doesn't seem to notice. He moves around in the downpour, rain streaming down his face and soaking his clothes. He tries to remember the prevailing direction of the wind when they arrived at the site. Hewelathan gathers the charred (and one decapitated) bodies, lifting them easily, and laying them out side-to-side in an open area about 50' downwind from the campsite. Even if they're not staying here long, he assumes that the rest of the group also finds the smell of the burned flesh and clothing to be stomach-churning.
Once he finishes laying out the bodies, Hewelathan uses the last of the rain to rinse off his arms and hands, scrubbing them with some soap to clean off the soot and blood. Then he joins his companions to learn what they've discovered while he was busy.
Rhaenys blinks when she feels the touch in her arm and looks up to find Hewelathan as shocked as she is. She gives him a slight smile, and when the druid begins to gather all the bodies - as easily as if they were light as feathers - she realizes it's time to pull herself together and do something useful too.
She hears Korba saying something about magic items and decides to go there, while the rest speak with the two nobles they have just rescued.
- Let me take a look...
She waves her hand over the objects and casts a spell to try to identify the magic they are imbued with. Then she takes a closer look to all of them one by one trying to ascertain what they do. With the spell still active, she will also take a look around the camp to check if anything else pings her magic scan.

Tytus is internally shocked that Flinn untied these people without getting the answer first. He decides to back down and observe for now, but won't leave his comrade without some safety tip. He hears Korba asking for assistance so Tytus turns invisible and first whispers in Flinns ear: - Do not trust them so quickly, get the answers for other questions too. And then he proceeds invisible to where Korba is, and pops out from invisibility at his side and asks what could he do to help, then tries to help him with whatever Korba need assisting.

Jodie sidles up to the others and tries to talk about the harp. "I call that one Light My Fire. I was so close to making some pretty lights lure them off, but when they cornered me...I just couldn't let them take the harp. It's too dangerous for anyone else to use, with Smiler and all." The red-haired bard tosses her hair back and skips over to Lady Flora. She approaches the weeping elf.
"My lady, my name is Jodie Owlen. My elven mother named me Jodesylvin, but that's rather a mouthful wouldn't you agree? She always said nature would be my ally against the evils of the world. I'm sorry you had to see that, but nature has many instruments like me." Jodie winks, trying to make the elf more comfortable Persuasion (13)
Hewelathan: There aren't any living creatures (or formerly living creatures) inside of the burning tents... unfortunately, there isn't much of anything else either that survived the fire. That being said, you notice some weapons (mostly scimitars and a couple of light crossbows) in the non-destroyed tents and crates. There is no evidence of anyone else nearby.
Jodie: The elf looks up at Jodie and wipes some tears away. She does her best to return the Bard's smile, but it's clear she's still terrified.
"Yes... I... I suppose so," she says, glancing nervously over Jodie's shoulder at Tytus, still clearly afraid of the 'mad' warlock after his little display. "Th-thank you for saving us..."

Did Hewelathan find any daggers, darts, or javelins? Or just light crossbows and scimitars?
Having heard Jodie asking about crossbows, Hewelathan brings a light crossbow and (assuming that he also found ammunition) two cases with 20 crossbow bolts each. He sees that she's comforting a prisoner who appears to be an elf. He greets the woman formally in Elvish: "The blessings of Sehanine Moonbow upon you both, and may the moonlight keep you safe in the dark night! I am Hewelathan Sylcaryn. I hope you have not been hurt."
Once Hewelathan is done meeting the elf and her guard, he turns to Jodie, holds up the crossbow, and asks, "You wanted a crossbow?" Then he asks to hear more from Lady Elora, how they came to be here, and whether she knows why she was captured.
Hewelathan then walks over to where Korba, Tytus, and Rhaenys are smaller sorting items. He says, "If any of you need additional armaments, the bandits had some crossbows, scimitars, and other weapons. But--oh! What have you found here?" He's fascinated to learn of the cache of magic items.
If it's not already clear, Hewelathan asks Lady Elora whether any of these magic items belong to her.
The elf shakes her head, and it seems that she's finally starting to calm down.
"No, Mr. Sylcaryn, I... I was not injured,"she says. "The brooch was mine... and the blade belonged to Sir Swiftshield. If... if you like you may keep them, though. We certainly owe you that, and far more! Gods only know what could have happened if you had not arrived when you did. I honestly do not know how we can ever repay you... but... I am sure that my family will reward all of you well for my safe return..."
When asked about the circumstances of her capture, she sighs and does her best to recount any relevant information:
"We were returning from the Temple of Ilmater when we were attacked (it is a tradition in my family to make at least one such pilgrimage to give thanks to Ilmater for how he blessed one of our ancestors, Sir Garrik Hercan, to bring down one of the greatest threats that ever plagued this world). Well, anyway, as we made the return journey I couldn't help feeling that there was something wrong... like we were being watched the whole way. And I could tell that Sir Barnabas felt the same way... but I think he didn't want me to be afraid by stating his worries aloud... but we really should have trusted our instincts. When we were a good ten miles from the city, we were struck from both sides by the bandits. Once Sir Barnabas was defeated by the magic of their witch, I had no choice but to submit to them and pray that... that all they wanted was our gold and perhaps a ransom..."
She shudders again at the terrifying memory of the robbery and abduction, and she begins to sob again.
"The fact that they were so easily able to sneak up on us was a truly awful failing on my part,"Sir Barnabas adds dejectedly, pulling the elf close. "But the important thing is that milady is safe from these roughens now. I-I'm sure that these good people will be able to keep you safer than I was able to..."

After examining the objects Rhaenys approaches the elf and her protector:
- Umm, hello. My name is Rhaenys. I'm sorry for what you have been through. I can't help but wonder: what was that threat you spoke about? The one your ancestor helped to destroy? Also, where are you headed? Perhaps we could share our journey, and thus help each other out in case we find more dangers.
Regarding the objects, she describes to Hewelathan and the rest what they have found:
- A curious mixture of magical items. Perhaps the bandits took them from other people, apart from you both? Anyone has any particular interest in any of them? They might be useful! I could be interested in the protection the granted by the brooch, or in the cloak.. as it could help me with my ...erm... issue. If no one else wants them, that is.
Jodie steps forward and accepts the light crossbow from Hewelathan. "Those bracers will probably help me shoot straighter. It doesn't seem that archery is of any of your interest. I'd be happy with the crossbow and bracers and let others pick from the rest."
(Oh, and Hewelathan, yes, you were able to find a few daggers. No javelins, though).
As Lady Elora is still kind of a quivering mess, Sir Barnabas answers Rhaenys' question. "Milady's ancestor was one of the seven heroes called upon by the gods to defeat the mad Dragon Lord Sserrah Nightbane... it is said that this Dragon Lord grew so greedy and so powerful that the gods feared she would ascend to godhood herself and claim our entire world as part of her hoard. We were on our way to the port city of Tormere when we were attacked. If you are going in the same direction then it would probably be in our best interest to accompany you... if Lady Elora agrees, of course."
He looks to the traumatized elf for confirmation, and she nods. As much as Tytus may have scared her, it seems that the thought of trying to make it to the city without help scares her more.
Anyone has any particular interest in any of them? They might be useful! I could be interested the protection the granted by the brooch, or in the cloak.. as it could help me with my ...erm... issue. If no one else wants them, that is.
Of the other items, he says, "I never play at dice, and I could not use the sword. The bracers do not interest me: I have more sympathy with the stag or the bird than I do for the hunter and his bow. The cloak that the clerics of Ilmater gave me provides more protection from common harms than would Lady Elora's brooch, and even I know that it would look ridiculous for me to wear a cloak over a cloak.
"Of the rest, the amulet interests me the most. I could put it to good use since it's not difficult now for me to punch right through armor with a weapon. And maybe the circlet? Though perhaps that makes more sense for Tytus or one of the fighters?"
Tytus looks at the items and thinks for a minute. They are either hoarding magical items or they are gathering them to equip and army he thinks to himself. Maybe those two were only targeted for their items, but why tie them up then? Then he hears Rhaenys and sees her form fiddling a magical cape in hands.
-Rhaenys, is that how you look when not changed? That does match your description. You look very nice and i think that cape would complement you nicely. I myself would like to pick up that circlet, if no one else would be interested. I have a hmm how to best name it... a specific relation to fire. This circlet makes me want to use it you see. Same goes for that little candle. It seems like its fire is stronger than water. That is very powerful. I heard it is possible to conjure flames underwater and they can still be dangerous with their heat but won't last. If i understand the enchantment on that candle correctly - this flame will sustain itself underwater. Amazing.
Tytus is now a little obsessed with the candle and is touching it from every angle as well as looks at it from any angle. He is also eavesdropping the conversation with the nobles, but since his little act was not picked up by the rest of the group he does not want to interfere more and just disappears with the candle.
“More protection is always welcome,” Korba says, pinning the brooch to his cloak. He then looks to the noble woman and her bodyguard and says, “We are in fact headed that way. Though I am curious… When did they take you? Were you planning on trekking through the woods? Also, after reaching the city we will be looking for a, somewhat mad or brave, captain to sail us to dangerous waters. Perhaps would you have connections of anyone who might fit that description?”
When Tytus addresses her Rhaenys looks surprised at her hands, and then brings them to her face.
- Gods above! I hadn't even noticed - she then looks for a puddle of water where she can see her face reflected, and says - I was begining to forget how I look like...
Knowing that she will surely remain in this shape for a short while she stares at her reflection in one of the puddles of water that the previous storm has formed, trying to commit her features to memory. As she does this, she is reminded of the purpose they have all set upon themselves and that if she wants to recover her true aspect and be able to show it whenever she wants - and not when the staff allows it - she will have to fight for it with all her strength.
When she returns to the rest she says:
- Thank you, Tytus. I wil take this cape, yes. A shapeshifting cloak for a shapeshifter. It's only fitting, huh? - she chuckles.
"We were abducted late yesterday evening," the bodyguard explains. "We were attacked on the road and then dragged out here. Anyway, I'm sure that milady will be quite capable of finding a captain for you when we reach the city."
"But... where do you need this captain to take you?" the elf asks uncertainly when Korba explains that they need a captain who is 'sometlwhat mad or brave.' "I... I want to help you because of what you have done... but... I will need to know a more about what you face..."

Hewelathan suggests, "I'm sorry, Lady Elora, but maybe we should leave that discussion for tomorrow? We defeated your captors, but we still may not be safe here." He looks to his companions, "It's late now, and we have to decide whether to camp here or to move on and try to find some other place to rest tonight. We don't know whether Firion's follower was just resting here for the night or whether this was her ultimate destination. I doubt that a light raiding party would cary these crates on their backs, so that suggests that this camp was at least a sort of temporary base. Are there other bandits or followers of Firion out there who are, even now, making their way back to this same camp?"
The two ex-prisoners share a glance. Hewelathan's suggestion that more bandits could appear at any moment apparently isn't a comforting one to them...
"I think perhaps that the safest thing to do would be to move on and find somewhere safer to rest," Sir Swiftshield says with worry in his voice. "I can help keep watch tonight, so long as I am provided with a weapon... I'm sure that these bastards left some."
With the charred remains of the bandit camp thoroughly picked over, what will the party do next? Do you make camp here, push on for a few miles and make camp, or do something else entirely?
