Tharin bows to the noblewoman, the follows Aracynth to Eyani. Along the way, he probes the dragonborn on his past.
"You seem on edge, friend. As one loyal to the order of the land to another follower of a code, I trust that you have reasons for this tension, and that they are righteous. However, the evildoers of this land are many and not as virtuous as we. I would caution you against driving away the few allies we have. What caused this outburst last night at such an upstanding citizen of the law?"
At Eyani's shop, Tharin requests a mask. He had been lax in Ibben, letting his face be known to so many. He should be more careful outside the town, where there are more eyes that could recognize him and report back to the Clock Tower Gang.
The Dragonborn weighed the Elf's words carefully as they walked. "I appreciate your concern, Tharin, truly I do. It was never my intent to slander anyone or create any rifts between us. My remarks yesterday were ill made, too hastily presumed of Fizzbang's character. I was greatly fatigued from the bouts in the arena, and my better judgement was not with me.
His vice of coin concerns me though, and it seems it may yet cause him greater troubles to come. However, I realize now that it was not my place to say. I have once already acknowledged my errs on this matter, but if further amends need be made, then I shall do such as my honor requires.
I will caution you though, my pride is at least equal in measure to Fizzbang's, and I hold my own duties sacred above all else. Though the injust tensions last night may be laid at my feet, it is still unbecoming to impugn one of their honor, and at times more dangerous than one might anticipate." He let his final words hang as they entered Eyani's shop.
Kynortas listened with intent to both the Duke's and Duchesses replies. Having absorbed the information he followed his way to the armory asking for a spear, a sling, 20 sling bullets in a belt pouch, and a healer's kit if possible. If the healer's kit is unavailable there he goes to Eyani's shop to procure it. He follows the group and approaches Fizzbang.
"I hope you did not take Aracynth's words to heart last night. I have a sense he is more unsettled about things in his own mind than with you. He definitely spoke out of turn but I hope that you and he will get along. I saw your abilities during our bout yesterday. I must say I have seen their like rarely. Would you be able to explain more about what you can do? Would you be able to tell me more of yourself as well? I like to know about those who I work with and whom may be watching my back."
"Uuuuuugh." Fizzbang held his head. Why hadn't anyone invented a cantrip to cure hangovers yet?
He stumbled through the day, barely taking stock of the political machinations unfolding around him. Bunch of snooty nobles and their silly problems anyway. Maybe after the Duke spent a few winter nights wedged between two goats he'd actually have something to complain about.
He actively avoided Aracynth, the tension from the night before still permeating the air. He accompanied the group back into town, and fell into step next to Kynortas and the two began to chat.
"The scaly bastard might rub me the wrong way, but he's alright. I'd never admit it to him, but I probably stepped a little out of line last night. The clergy type always get under my skin. Too much talk and not enough action you know?" Fortunately the conversation quickly turned to one of Fizzbang's favorite topics: himself. "Me? Why I'm glad you asked! I"m somewhat of a local favorite around these parts! I've really perfection the loveable scamp angle.
You've probably noticed that Ibben isn't the wealthiest of areas. Those of us in the poor part of town have to struggle to get by. I've always stolen to get by, quick fingers and a small stature go a long way in most circumstances. But it wasn't until I accidentally stole a traveling wizard's spellbooks instead of his goose that I learned a bit of magic." He laughed. "You'd be amazed how much easier a bit of petty larceny gets with a few illusions!" He glanced around. "Not that I've ever stolen that much," He whispered, "just enough to get by you understand. A little food and a little mead and ol' Fizzbang is as happy as can be!"
The Quartermaster is able to give Kynortas the spear, sling, and ammo, but no healer's kits. He is also able to procure a longsword for Aracynth, but no shields to spare.
Upon reaching Eyani's shop, Aracynth and Tharin are greeted by a tuft of yellow hair bobbing behind a large stack of books. "Left it here... must have... stupid wizards.... oh sure! ... ... nope." A small voice can be barely heard behind the leafed pages and hard covers. Suddenly the yellow tuft stops, near the corner of the room, and a very loud "AHA!" is heard, almost echoing in the dusty room. At this eureka a very small, quite young looking, female gnome face pops up over one of the smaller stacks. "Oh! Customers!" she states aloud to herself before striding over.
"Hullo, hullo! Yes, I am Eyani, your mercantile host for today and I can sell you anything your wonderful hearts desire!" the little gnome beams up at you. "Healing potions? Masks? Healer's kits? Why of co-" she cuts her sentence short when Fizzbang enters. "You!" she exclaims, running at Fizzbang, nearly knocking him over in his hangover. "I didn't know you could cast spells! How long have you known magic?! When did you become such a ... dashing fighter?!" her face turns a little pink at the last part. "Well, whatever the reason, congratulations and congratulots!" She smiles broadly at Fizzbang, happy to be eye-level with someone. "And what do you need?"

Aracynth watched Fizzbang's face light up, barely keeping his footing after Eyani's bull rush. The Gnome made a quick pass as he brought his hand up to Eyani, now holding a rose, and he requested assistance, grinning eagerly in an attempt to charm the yellow-haired shopkeeper.
'Local heroes indeed,' the Dragonborn thought, though he kept quiet, knowing the atmosphere between the Gnome and himself was still strained. The Gnome had flat out ignored him so far today, which while not necessarily upsetting, was bit colder than the Dragonborn had anticipated. Based on Tharin's earlier comments and the Gnome's present disregard, he could only conclude that his apology last night had not been enough. Aracynth took a moment to scan the shop for any wares that may be useful on their upcoming endeavor, while thinking of how he might mend the bridge he'd nearly broken..
Eyani smiles at the illusory rose, pretending to take a sniff, she laughs waves her hand through it. "Turns out I already had something planned!" she grins and walks into the back of the shop, returning with a small, square box tied neatly with a blue string. "This! Is for you, Fizzbang!" she exclaims handing it to him. "It's a Deck of Many Things for being so brave in the arena! You've done our little town a service!" She bows.
Everyone except Fizzbang, please make an insight roll.
Fizzbang:
You see her wink slyly as she bows, and looking at the box you see a small scrawled note that says "Deck of Illusions"
"Now," she says, standing up, "for the rest of you I heard the Duke gave you something for me?" She taps her foot and glances about at the other 3 members of the group. "With the proper note I can provide four Potion of Healing, one healer's kit and one item of your choice. I heard you mention a mask. What kind? Real skin? That'll take a while to... procure... but wood, iron, leather doctor masks, I have a couple. Leeeeet me know!" she says with a quick grin. She begins rocking on her feet, bobbing up and down slightly.

Kynortas takes note that he feels not so naked anymore. He had lost everything before, but now he at least had all of the equipment he had come to depend upon through all of his training and battles. While still observing the situation the first smile to appear on his face in a long time touches his face. Muscles that hadn't been used in so long strained slightly...
(Outside observers who see this will not only think that a smile is foreign on Kynortas face, it is a creepy, awkward smile that almost touches on the uncanny valley)
"Ha! Of course, of course," Eyani says looking up at Tharin. "Yea I have plenty of scrap cloth or bandannas for you to use. You're welcome to one, no charge. I use them around here because it gets a little dusty. Or if you're interested, I have this nifty black satin that covers everything but your eyes! Works best with a hood, but it may be what you want?" Eyani skips back down a hallway and skips back holding aloft a black, velvety, face mask that would remind outsiders of silent warriors that utilize thrown weapons, poison, and subterfuge... "This isn't part of the bargain. That'll be 20 gold pieces. Otherwise the bandannas and cloth come in just about any color or pattern you could think of! I like colors!" Eyani grins.
The smile is immediately wiped from Kynortas face and he replies, "I am fine." He finishes putting away his things, and thanks the gnome for the items. Then stands listening.

At the mention of sickness Aracynth turned to regard Kynortas. The human remarked that he was okay, and began efficiently stowing and securing his pack, when Aracynth spotted one of the trinkets they had received from the audience at the arena, and he was struck with an idea. "Actually, there is one other matter we have to discuss." He said aloud as he stepped towards Kynortas, retrieving the trinket. The human regarded him curiously, but made no move to stop him. "Fizzbang, the other one, if you don't mind." The Gnome regarded him more suspiciously, but was rather more interested with his new gift and forfeited the trinket without a word.
Aracynth turned towards Eyani with trinkets in hand. "We received these after our final bout yesterday evening. Given that only Fizzbang, our most skilled magician, is of local residence, I request that you give these a rather thorough appraisal, so that we might be sure of what value they have." Aracynth didn't stop moving to watch though and continued passed Fizzbang as if he hadn't done anything at all.

Skills that (hopefully) may prove him equally as well in the wilderness. Being in the military meant the occasional bout of guard duty. Kynortas had definitely learned what to keep an eye out for when camping and marching as well.
