"Ah, I understand. And I am sorry to assume so incorrectly of you." Aracynth bowed sincerely, "But yes, please arrange for us to meet your son and the Lady this afternoon. Thank You again, for your faith and trust in us. Perhaps when the Lady Rhea is recovered, we can investigate the unrest of Duke Oglethorn more closely. Now please excuse me, I wish to go pray upon these matters." Aracynth bowed again as he stepped out of the stables.
The Duke turns slightly back, looking down, "I do not know for certain what her ailment is. As I said I haven't had much of an audience with her. Poison and curses don't necessarily show up as evil to me. Magic was really Bartimus' method, not mine..." He continues to walk away, leaving you in the stables.

Aracynth regarded Kynortas for a moment, "I do have it, but let us wait until this evening, after we see the Lady Rhea for ouselves. I fear this problem may run deeper than we can yet know, and wouldn't wish to offer the Duke or Duchess Oglethorn any false hope or promises, until we understand this situation more clearly. Duke Armitage seems sincere about looking after the Lady until this malady is properly addressed, and I do not wish to do him injustice over this matter. We owe him at least that much right now."
"Ah, I see. Unfortunately, the object cannot retrieve them, because we don't know exactly where in the forest they are. It may only be sent to place it has been before, and the magic is too limited to send it out to search the whole forest. Should it fail or be lost, we will then lose a valuable asset for no gain. No, we should wait for them to return of their own accord. I have a strong suspicion that our business here in Cloverdown may persist another day or two anyways. Besides, Tharin seems savvy enough to navigate the woods, and Fizzbang is unlikely to be caught unawares. Not much gets by his strong sense of self-preservation."

Not for the first time, Fizzbang wondered why he'd agreed to go into the woods. He hated the woods. Who knew there were so many trees there? And bugs! At the least the city has respectful bugs, lazy little nuisances that would buzz about your face and land in your stew. These bumpkin country bugs looked as apt to suck your blood as a Vampire at a blood moon.
Fizzbang noticed Tharin go stiff next to him, gazing intently at the underbrush. Fizzbang didn't know a thrice-damned thing about forests, but that certainly didn't bode well.
The rustling intensifies to a violent shake and two Giant Badgers burst from the bush! Fizzbang is actually the first to react; your turn! They're about 20' from you to your left, just inside the clearing.

Fizzbang jumps back. A badger! In the woods! Who would have suspected!
”Noooooo thank you!” Fizzbang shouted. He briefly considered the idea of becoming badger food, and found the idea rather unsettling. Did badgers eat meat? He had no idea.
The first badger (to your left) reels as it is blinded by the burst of colors! The other watches as its compatriot snuffles angrily and claws at its eyes. Tharin, your turn!

Tharin stands up and draws his bow, then unleashes an arrow at the blinded badger. He didn't know if permits were needed to hunt in this wood, but surely self defense was a good enough reason?
As the Giant Badger fights to see again it shudders as an arrow thuds into its shoulder. Roaring in pain, and looking a little worse for wear, it charges toward what it thinks is the source. It strikes out at Tharin, first with its claw, then attempts to bite but is unable to find its target either time! The second badger lumbers toward Fizzbang, attempting to bite and scratch him as well! The claw goes right over the little Gnome's head, but the bite finds the arm that caused his partner so much trouble. Fizzbang feels the sharp teeth dig into his skin for 4 damage!
Back to the top, Fizzbang is up! Color Spray only lasts for one round so the badger that Tharin hit is no longer blinded.

Kynortas nods at Aracynth showing his understanding.
"I didn't remember about the statue but I understand now. Unfortunate we are not all together. Very well. They will probably make it back to us if nothing catches them unawares. Until then it seems we must wait. Shall we spar and train at the edge of town while we wait? I have a feeling we could learn from each other. Would you prefer to look around town instead?"
"I think it might be nice to spar with another person for a change." Aracynth's eyes lit up as he considered the human before him, "Though I'll have you know, we were taught little of restraint when I trained with the Drakenfaust. I hope that shield serves you well. We just need to be sure that do not miss our appointment with the Duke later. Come now and show me what you can!" the Dragonborn said, striding confidently towards the edge of town.

Fizzbang reeled from the creatures assault. "He bit me! The bugger actually bit me!"
They needed to end this fight as soon as possible. Fizzbang wasn't accustomed to being bit. Or to bleeding. Or to general physical discomfort. He found he care much for it.
Fizzbang casts Magic Missile at the badger that Tharin wounded! 11
The giant badger grimaces (as much as a beast that's got a semi-permanent snarl can grimace) and thuds to the ground as the second bolt hits him. Fizzbang lets the last one collide out of spite, and the dead creature spasms under the jolt. The second badger, still perfectly healthy, looks a bit alarmed but continues to snarl. Tharin, your turn!

Tharin looks at Fizzbang, blood pooling on his arm. The mage might sound tough, but he was probably better suited to casting spells, not going toe to toe with adversaries. Tharin draws his short sword and takes a swing at the badger menacing Fizzbang.
As the first badger falls dead, the second screeches when Tharin's short sword bites deep into its hide! It looks to be on death's door, but still manages to attack its pursuant! The first swing of its claw is too low, probably from the huge gash in its shoulder, and impacts numbly against your leather armor. The bite, however, finds purchase in a joint on your leg and deals 5 damage!

It's not the Fizzbang felt joy when the blood-crazed creature met its end...but it did give him a certain degree of satisfaction. One down, and hopefully one more wouldn't bite of his leg and gnaw him to death.
