Norvalor catches a few merchants people-watching to pass the time. Nothing of note from the merchants. Kaitlin, however, shifts uncomfortably in place as she watches the older Fist soldier screen the dwarves.
"Welcome back, traveler," says Kuoronath (KER-oh-noth) the older Fist. Cath recognizes the six-year soldier now that he's within a few feet. The last time you were here he made small talk with you, talking about his promotion to gauntlet, corporal. He routinely volunteers with the expeditionary force whenever it heads out for uncharted lands.
"What brings you to Baldur's Gate," Greime asks as Kuoronath inspects you with the detection rod. He asks, "Are you perchance carrying a cursed item? Loaded down with with a sentient item? Chained to a homunculus?" He lifts an eyebrow. "No?" He chuckles. "Clear. Good to see you dwarf."
Arutha Smiles at the soldier and waits until he finished running the rod along his body. "I am here as a guard for these two fine boot makers. Only things I have are my swords, armor and some general travelling gear. I also heard that Omaha was looking for warriors and so when I am finished helping these fine dwarves I may make my way to him to see if he could use my swords."

Cath steps to the side, permitting the people—including members of the adventuring party—behind him to pass through the Wyrm's Gate.
Kuoronath takes a step forward and begins to screen Sarahlle, rotating through the various detections the security rod screens for. Kaiylin struggles to maintain her composure. Beads of sweat dot her nose.
“You have beautiful eyes,” the older Flaming Fist soldier says kindly to Sarahlle. “They shine like amethysts in the sunlight.” She giggles wistfully from the compliment. He presses a gloved finger upon the citrine, and speaks a command word for the final inspection check. Sarahlle is as light as a six-year-old on her feet should be. “Clear.”
“It’s not safe outside the city, ma’am. Hurry, inside now,” he says, completing the inspection over Kaiylin.
“Thank you kind, sir.”
Kaiylin hands him the piece of silver Cath was kind enough to let her have, but the soldier refuses the tax. Kaiylin blinks. "But, the tax." In that exchange, spanning heartbeats, the party gets the sense the salt-and-peppered haired soldier has been watching the interaction between Kaiylin and the party long enough to let her plight simmer in his thoughts, and make the right choice. “Keep it. You would benefit from a quiet place and a plate of warm food,” he says, redirecting the device toward her son, Traevar. Midway down the boy’s chest, the rod begins to shake, uncontrollably, threatening to break free from the soldier’s grasp and wriggle on the ground.
The diamond gem alerts the Fist to a discrepancy. VVRRROOOONNGGG.
Kuoronath looks up, dismayed.
VVRRROOOONNGGG.
Before his eyes, the boy’s skin color changes, altering from olive to gray to charcoal. The word slips out of the soldier’s mouth before he can retrieve it, a word nary a few good folk of the realms speak when offering praise to an elf; a word that harkens back to the origins of the elven war, when bloodlines hurled curses and betrayed each other.
“Drow.”
With a snap, half-a-dozen Flaming Fist soldiers appear, canceling the invisibility spell that had been cast upon them. Sharp spears point at Kaiylin, her children.
Kuoronath steps back through the line of soldiers. “I’m sorry,” he says, long after his eyes have spoken what his heart must certainly feel. “I am truly sorry.”
Arutha notices the commotion around the woman and her children and With his hands drifting to the hilt of his swords he steps the direction of the soldiers and speaks up. "Do you of Baulders gate find children to be a danger? I have heard of your valor and power but it seems that if you fear children, Perhaps what I have heard is incorrect." Arutha speaks trying to convince the soldiers to let the woman and children pass. (persuasion?: 14)
OOC: he is trying to shame them into letting the children in but is also considering using his swords if they become forceful with the woman and children.
Norvalor would like to rush forward and say "Wait there doesn't need to be violence!" Norvalor reaches into his inner coat pocket and pulls out his insignia (special forces Coporal) "i'm sure you're all on edge but we can always talk things out before resorting to violence." Norvalor would like to see if there was any foul play involved with the child being revealed as a drow, or is he half drow?
OOC. As Kuoronath passed the detection rod over the young boy, whatever spell used to disguise him was broken by the gem, revealing him for what he truly is. I'll say no more until the other members of the party have had a chance to post.
Gramdal hear's the gasps and commotion coming from the line. He rushes back to see what could be causing the ruckus, readying his crossbow. As he closes in, he sees the rod reveal the children's true form and the Flaming Fist appear with spears. He'll duck behind whatever cover he can find and see how this plays out. Gramdal's done a lot of things in his time. Some good. Some bad. But he would be damned if he'd let harm come to children...Drow or no....
Stealth check to hide behind whatever cover he can find: 18
He'll hold he loaded crossbow ready should things escalate.
Cath made some quick small talk with the guard he recognized from previous trips to Baldur's Gate and then stepped aside to allow Kaiylin and the others to pass through the gate.
When the child was revealed to be a drow he felt like suddenly some of the pieces fell into place even more. He recalled the map she had drawn in the dirt.
Cath stepped up and called to Kuoronath . "Hold please Kuoronath! I have offered my assistance and protection to this woman and her children. But I am as surprised as you that the one child is a drow. But look, he is just a child, even by elven standards. What harm can there be?"
John pulls out his musket rifle pointing it at the monstrosity that was suddenly revealed. John decides to wait for any signs of danger coming from the drow, and waits for any orders to stand down.
The Flaming Fist soldiers fan out before Kaiylin and her children, closing in. A soldier, second from the left, growls, "A drow is a drow. A spider hatched from an egg still bites."

Gramdal, seeing this soldier approach with such menace, will take a shot at him with his Crossbow. ((Would I get advantage on the roll since I was trying to be hidden?))
Looking at his dwarven companions Arutha whispers a quick, "I'm sorry if this makes your life more difficult." Then he draws his swords and takes a stance moving to try and put himself and his blades between the child and the soldiers. "You are weak and dishonorable to consider harming a child."
