After a long hiatus from D&D and tabletop RPGs in general, I joined Beyond and started playing 5e just about a year ago. I've had a fantastic time and met some wonderful people and now I'd like to pay it forward!
The game I'm recruiting for is a mini dungeon crawl geared towards brand new players. It will be light on role-playing and mainly focused on teaching the basic mechanics of skill use, spells, and combat. There will combat, environmental threats, obstacles, and maybe a puzzle or two. I'm anticipating this to be a fairly short adventure that should wrap in about two months with a "once a day" post rate (obviously, things come up and not everyone can post every day) but higher post rates certainly won't be discouraged.
In the interest of fairness, characters will be created with standard array for attributes, standard gear, and using only free content. Characters will start at level 1. I'm looking for three or four additional players.
If you're interested, please fill out the application below.
Welcome to the community! I hope to hear from you soon!
Application Information
How you'd like to be addressed: (handle/nickname & pronouns)
Age: (under 18, 18-24, 25-35, over 35)
Previous experience with tabletop RPGs:
Why you're interested in learning to play D&D:
Description of the character you're interested in playing: (this can be mechanical things like species & class, a back story, a personality, any combination of the above, something else, or nothing at all of you haven't decided yet!)
How you'd like to be addressed: he him/egg/eggcellent
Age: 19
Previous experience with tabletop RPGs: ive been playing TTRPGs for about a year and a half
Why you're interested in learning to play D&D: I heard from a friend that its a lot better than most TTRPGs
Description of the character you're interested in playing: blonde, nervous fighter
backstory: Lancer had a normal life, until on one fateful day his kingdom went into war, both his parents died in that war and he was drafted at 13, in the middle of war, on the brink of death, his military captain, chris, saved him, for the next 5 years, he was taught by Captain Chris, until he could achieve his dream, of being an adventurer
experience: Plenty, but a few decades ago. This is first time trying pbp. Reconnecting with my youth, being creative, and looking for better ways to waste time on my phone.
Zeke of Zani is a dwarf war cleric who can be disturbingly single minded in his protection of his friends We are not certain he is completely sane, particularly since he loves to play Dragonchess but has never won a game
Why you're interested in learning to play D&D: Always had an eye in starting but just never did until a gaming cafe opened up near to me which play and I'd like to get XP essentially to join in.
Description of the character you're interested in playing: A Mountain dwarf paladin with a black smithing background. Took up the oath of the light after growing up and seeing all the mis justice around him and due to his own reasons why he wishes to be apart of this order which he never reveals. He is around 5 foot tall, athletic build, shoulder blade length black hair with reasonable length beard and is dark skin toned. Generally a extrovert, more than happy to share plenty of mugs of ale, but now and again can be seen staring off into the distance in some deep thought and different to the character seen minutes ago.
Nice job Groverbloom! I was excited to see you had a game and were recruiting but I am sure I don't count as a new player. good luck! I encourage anyone that is interested in the PBP format for DND to join. Grover is great and will take care of you!
How you'd like to be addressed: My handle is @noxe_jkl, you can call me noxe. he/him You can get a hold of me via Discord or X.
Age: 17
Previous experience with tabletop RPGs: DM for a group of beginner friends learning together.
Why you're interested in learning to play D&D: learn how to be a player so I can be a better DM for my friends
Description of the character you're interested in playing: Open to suggestions, but I have an idea of a dwarf warlock who is sceptical of magic and only uses it when he has to, preferring to solve problems with his axe.
Why I’m interested: I enjoy video games based on D&D and went down a rabbit hole searching for a way to learn without friends that play and found this.
Character: Tiefling Bard, I would still need to flesh out the back story some but it is a haunted one, not easily shared in full but Despair the Bard has been on his own for a while touching people with his dark heavy or somber tunes. Far from lighthearted music but reaches deeply within anyone who will listen.
why you are interested to learn d&d : i have had a hard time searching for activities to do in my free time . when i stumbled on d&d i was really intrigued and after a while i saw the potential of all endless possibilities .
altough i am not sure i plan to play a lightfoot halfling wich as been in a "war" as the rebellion leader againts solders who took his village ,his freinds, his family and even his family treasure wich was a green emerald
Neat! Something homebrew? Or are you using that adventure that was published by WOTC last month?
I hadn't noticed they put something out! Thank you for the tip.
I was (and still am) planning a homebrew so I can tailor it to the group but I'll be sure to check it out and steal all of the best ideas 😉
Sorry I missed out playing with you in Storm Chasers Chronicles (flipped two campaign names in my head😄). I've loved following your adventures! Hopefully we'll land in a game together somewhere down the road! BtW, I absolutely adore your handle😆

I'll definitely do an actual campaign somewhere down the road, thinking summer/autumn... Will be looking for some reliable folks with great RP chops then!
Thanks to everyone for your interest! We have eight already so I'm going to close this now before I get completely overwhelmed and try running two sets of four. I'll post some more information later tonight!
Still looking at how I want to split up the groups here. Your next step is going to be building out your characters in DnD Beyond (DnDB) and posting a more detailed character description. What I'm looking for is on the next post.
If you have any questions about building your character, shoot me a PM and we can work through it together. Remember these key things.
My apologies all, I guess I wasn't clear. Everyone who submitted an application so far will be accepted. Instead of having one group of 5 I'll be doing 2 groups of 4 instead. I just need to work out who will be in which group.
Raised in the slums of a moderate sized primarily human city. The 7th son of a crime lord. Not expected to take the reins but required to participate. The family noticed over my early years much of my attention going to my instruments. Fearing me to be potentially too soft for the family business. With my coming of age I was given a specific task as chance to prove myself. Much more sinister than what’s usually required.
I did. Fully and without question. But inside it broke me. Returning home to a celebration with a family happy to have been proven wrong I made my decision.I grabbed my instruments and what few items I owned and fled stopping to deliver a final farewell. Where I made it clear what I thought of the family business and that I would set out declaring myself an orphan rather than be tied to such a family. I sprinted off believing they would attempt to capture and kill me for what I know. But instead they just laughed jeering I wouldn’t last a week. I chose the Virtue name Despair and quickly lucked into a mentorship with a wandering duo of half elf bards eager to have a companion of my visage. A few years have passed in this new life of my choosing.
A brief description (physical and/or personality):
Large horns that curl like a rams
6.5ft tall 4ft long tail
Solid gold eyes
Muted red skin long black hair
Personality: wants to be a do gooder but never had a good example of that. Plays somber music or fast paced high energy with no in between

No experience. Always seemed interesting. Wanted to get into it.
Possibly a Forest gnome, ranger build. But mostly ranger build then work from there.
