William recoiled slightly at Seri's touch though he did not know why. His unfamiliarity with magic, or the magic born from religious devotion, made him hesitant but even so he could not deny that whatever she just did felt... well, good was not the word he would use to describe it. Reassuring perhaps? Whatever the case, William could feel his hand grip the rope tighter, his feet more steady and his knees less shaky.
'Thanks.' He replied to Seri. He looked over to where the metal object was. 'I'm not sure I can reach that. I could use some rope but...' His gaze returned to the rocks and water. 'I'll first try to get across in one piece.'
With that said William put one foot carefully after the other hoping the rope would not give out.
Acrobatics check: 6 + 1 (guidance)
It can be used as a handrail for any member of the party who needs it, but if anyone does need to use it to save themselves from falling in, both they and Kairouani will need to do an Athletics check to see what happens.
William steps cautiously out onto the first rock. Despite Trondro's guidance, he seems unsteady right from the outset. Perhaps he is overthinking it, but the wobbles get worse with each tentative jump. By the time he is about a third of the way across, the seemingly inevitable occurs. He lands badly and one foot slips out over the water. He leans his weight on the rope as he overbalances, trying to keep himself from plunging into the water and, possibly, being swept over the roaring waterfall only a few feet away.
Kairouani Athletics check please (with advantage because Thea can help to brace her).
Seri's heart leaps into her throat as William slips near the waterfall's edge.
She gasps, her sudden inhalation coinciding with another strong ocean gust whipping suddenly up the ravine from the west. It seems to buffet William right on the rump and propel him northeast, onto the log and the rope above it that Kairouani and Thea are holding.
(SeriTelekinetically ShovesWilliam: DC14 STR Save, which he can fail intentionally if he chooses, or be pushed 5' NE as described, onto the log and rope).
Kairouani hesitates to jump into the water with the rope to try for William and hopes their Shaman has a plan.....it is not that she does not like William...she just likes herself more and doesn't like her chances of emerging from that river alive.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kairounai braces against the rope in anticipation of William's weight bearing down on it, bare heels digging into the soft loamy earth of the riverbank. Her hands lock tight around the rough hemp and her sinews strain to haul as much tension into the rope as possible. Thea's lightning reactions bring her stepping in to lend her strength to the Igneri. As she does so, and grabs Kairouani's shoulders, she unwittingly steps on a large brown snake which had been coiled in the leaf litter, almost invisible. The creature reacts faster than the eye can see, using aggression as a defence against this unexpected threat.
Attack: 7 Damage: 3
If it hits, damage is 1. Thea must then make a CON save to see how much poison damage she takes (either all or half of the remainder of the roll).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Thea is in motion, the snake misjudges the strike, grazing just past her leg as she steps in to aid Kairouani. It pulls away a couple of feet, muscular coils slithering over one another, and rears up, hissing loudly. There is no requirement for magical means of communication to know that this snake is angry.
Meanwhile, William snatches at the rope but in his haste, misses. His hands grasp frantically at thin air as he fully takes leave of any semblance of balance he had left and faces a very sudden and unpleasant realisation. He is going in the river.
But...
A sudden, incongruous gust of wind comes from nowhere. The sort of gust that he had only ever felt on the deck of a ship in winter, crossing the straits that separated Epiron and Halandia. A man could lean bodily on those winds, as if leaning on a tavern bar. A constant and robust flow that made the air feel almost a solid object. Here it was momentary, and warm, but the feeling of solidity was the same. Just as he resigns himself to an impromptu bath, at the very least, this gust takes hold of him and reverses his momentum. It flings him forward, stumbling into the taut rope and onto the smooth surface of the fallen tree.
(I'm assuming William will voluntarily fail the STR check required to avoid falling backwards into the water. If not (i.e. he wants to fall into the water towards the waterfall), roll it and let me know.)
Now he has another chance to catch his footing and get hold of the rope, I will take another Athletics or Acrobatics check (your choice) from William. If he fails, he will end up pitching the other way into the water.
Now there's an enemy in play, can I have initiative rolls from everyone please?

Initiative- 19
Kairounai hissed quietly at Thea, " Still....quiet...do not move sudden. It is scared and hurt....it should leave if it detects no further threat."
She hoped she was right....her words were true for the vast majority of snakes found on the islands but she hadn't gotten a good look at this particular one as she had to anchor the rope and it was taking all her concentration. Regardless, she was going nowhere.
Seri seems as surprised as anyone at the sudden gust of wind that pushes William back towards the rope and the fallen tree and away from the waterfall, even though she knows deep down that she is the one who caused it.
She is too preoccupied to realize just yet what is happening on the other bank of the river with the well-camouflaged snake.

I'm pretty confident William will grasp at anything that will let him avoid falling into the water ^^
Athletics check: 6
Oh for the love of... That's three 6's in a row...
William's desperation-turned-acceptance at his imminent dunking became surprise at the gust of wind reversing his direction. There is however no time for relief to edge its way in between that and a sudden panic that he is now pitching forward with as much vigour as he was a moment ago falling backwards. Another futile swipe at the apparently superfluous safety rope achieves nothing, and a moment later William's face makes contact with the rushing water, swiftly followed by the rest of his body. The water is surprisingly cold given the strength of the sun, or perhaps it is the contrast between the balmy air and the cool water that produces the effect. Either way, William is soon gasping in shock once he manages to turn over and break the surface with his head. The strong current has hold of him and is forcing him into and under the fallen tree and its collected bounty of buoyant debris that has joined it from further upstream. If he is forced under the tree there is a strong possibility that he could be swept between the rocks and over the waterfall, an experience that is unlikely to be beneficial to his health.
There are plenty of branches to grab hold of. Doing so will prevent William from being taken any further toward the 60ft drop, but will also make it very hard for him to keep his head above water. Swimming in this current is almost impossible for any but the strongest, most natural swimmer.
His is not the only situation requiring immediate attention of course. Thea is face to face with an angry serpent that has already tried to bite her once, and it undoubtedly sees Kairouani as just as great a threat.
Initiative order:
William: 17

William, your action please. Admittedly I haven't given you much option beyond 'try to survive,' but let me know exactly how you intend to achieve that!
Only two thoughts went through William's mind as he slipped. The first, strangely enough, was how glad he was that he had opted to wear leather armour over his clothes with a wooden shield instead of the more heavier alternative. The other was that he had to get out of this situation fast. His hand reached out to grasp at anything he could use to pull himself up. Something glimmered in the corner of his eye. Perhaps he could accomplish two goals with one move.
William will try to grab hold of the fallen tree and branches and use these to guide himself toward the metal object.
If this requires an athletics check: 4(natural one)
William disappears under the fallen tree and out of sight of the rest of the party. He is completely submerged and being swept ever closer to the great waterfall thundering away to the depths below.
Kairouani looked band forth between Thea and the river ignoring the snake, she had to live for her people...she......." Iro-Aon!!", she swore as she ran towards the river and dived in downstream from the logjam. She hoped the rope attached to her gave her enough leeway or this was going to look rather comical...

Kairouani plunges into the rushing waters to try and get to William. She immediately loses her footing and is swept over the waterfall. The rope tied to her waist quickly becomes taut with a jerk, and she swings across the width of ravine though the crashing weight of the falling water. Hanging from the rope like a ragdoll, she swings into the far wall, impacting the rocky surface hard, taking the breath from her lungs. She ends up dangling about 40ft below the tree where Seri is standing. Up against the wall of the ravine, she is mostly out of the flow of the water, but is soaked and battered.
Bludgeoning damage for Kairouani: 8
Meanwhile the snake only has eyes for Thea. Without warning, it strikes again: Attack: 18 Damage: 3
