"No one who has seen it up close is alive, of that I'm sure. Its eyes are too sharp for that. Ask around, you might get a little more, but anyone who would know more is either dead or long gone. If you want it dead, good luck, but I've no help for you, and I'm not risking my life housing you again tomorrow."
Ruthmum pipes up: "I can send my vulture friend t' help scout, but I cannae commune wit' her at the moment. This land's been barren for too long, and my connection en't strong. What magic I could take from it was expended during the battle wit' the gnolls, and wit'out sleep I cannae commune wit' the earth. I can rest during the day an' be ready by the end o' it, but I'm nae help right now."
"It's unlike anything I've read about before," Evelyn offers, shaking her head. "It sounds bigger and more ferocious than a troll or giant. From what we saw back in the gnoll cave with the ritual circle, perhaps they enlarged a gnoll." The idea makes her shudder.
"I have such a spell in my spellbook, but it would take me some time to memorize it. I could make one of us just as big as this giant gnoll perhaps, and that would put us on a more even footing with it."
"I suggest we take a look around, see if we can find anything, maybe footprints or fur or something. We can maybe find an empty building to use as a base; or do we just get the hell out of here?"
"If we're careful not to draw its attention, we could investigate," agrees Evelyn. "If it does come to combat, we can try my plan of making one of you really big. Or we could just flee if it seems like it's too much for us."
“It’s same thing with the cave – we leave now, we may have to fight it together with Auntie.” He said after Olan and Evelyn. If the creature is dangerous now, imagine with the witch. His glanced at Ruthmum. The druid’s rest was a priority. “I like Evelyn’s plan, but before focusing on it I believe we should try investigate, search for a base and determine if we should leave. Things we may just be able to do all at once” He turned to Carlotta. “Lady Duncan, could you point us in the direction of the leader of this village?”
The words of the wizard worried him. Could the creature be a demon or even an avatar of Yeenoghu. Do demons even have avatars? He know of one that had, but the creature was also worshipped as a goddess. Maybe the lack of divinity made impossible for the hyena to have the same thing that the spider possessed. Another possibility came to his mind, as unpleasant as the others - what if the monster terrorizing the village was the result of the lycanthropy? A thing they would need to discuss, but not in front of strangers. Specially not those with every reason under the sky to avoid taking risks. Last thing they needed were more enemies.
Notes: I believe we should talk to someone Carlotta points to and have Ruthmum rest.
(What's the next course of action? There does not seem to be a town leader. Hell, there's less a town so much as a bunch of scared people living near each other.)

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Shit, he said with the voice of his mind as Carlotta’s face contorted. There was no easy chain of command to resume the search for them. It wasn’t surprising, given the state of the village, but neither was it convenient. A better person wouldn’t reduce their tragedy to a matter of convenience, the warlock thought, failing to notice that to even consider as much was already sign of change in his behavior.
“Well, seems we need to go door to door.” Should be feasible while looking for prints and fur, as Olan suggested.“Ruthmum, I know you need a rest, but you are most likely far more used to tracking than any of us. We’ll depend on your eyes while looking for anything left by the monster.”Mine are useless during the day, he could have completed. “Thank you for everything, Lady Duncan. We would be eternally grateful if upon meeting anyone you told them of our intentions.” He then turned to Threl. “We better keep the hoods and leave the first contacts for the ones with the surface look.”
Scarred folk wouldn’t exactly welcome the sight of two drow heavily armed knocking on their doors. With that in mind Veldruk tried hiding the blade under his cape and left following his companions, offering what little help he could in looking for clues.
Notes: Veldruk leaves Carlotta's house following the rest of the party and takes the Help action to support Ruthmum in looking for signs of the best - tracks, footprints, fur, like Olan put. He keeps the hood down and waits for the non-drow to approach any house standing in order to ask for information.
Olan looks around the settlement before heading for one of the damaged buildings. If there was going to be any scraps of fur or hair, that would seem the logical place to find them.
Perception 11 (Passive 15)
He then heads off to start looking for people to question.
Evelyn thanks Carlotta for giving them shelter. Then she follows the others into the village, nervous about running into the monster. She does her best to look for anything that might be useful. It's no ancient ruin or tomb, but the same principles applied to searching a village she believed. The wizard follows Olan in his search for people, but while he searches for someone to talk to, she looks for any clues that would give her more information on the monstrous creature.
(I rolled both Perception and Investigation, not sure which would suit better!)
With a natural 1 and a 3... Ruthmum is at a loss. The poor old man is just too tired to find anything of note. Meanwhile, Olan sifts through the ruins and wreckage of the houses smashed last night. He finds rubble, splinters, and the stench of death. Little else, besides evidence that this thing eats its kills, and leaves very little behind.
Evelyn, meanwhile, moves her search near the edge of the town, and finds much more than the sleep-deprived druid. The issue with the other two's investigation is that they assumed that the creature was travelling by the same routes they would. Evelyn, meanwhile, finds a couple strands clinging to a twiggy bush, a ways up the side of the hill. Besides it, a few pits that could very well have been caused by the thing's limbs digging into the earth. It seems that this creature has made its home directly up the side of the hill, somewhere nestled among the hilltops.

Carlotta grimaces. Whatever leader this town had, it likely has no longer.
