Sylyra moves his moonbeam to again focus on the beast attacking Hex. He moves away, again trying to find cover behind one of the larger trees. Taking note of the other beast, he focuses his totem's energy on Auriel to help the other elf vanquish that creature as well.
Action: move moonbeam
Reaction: give advantage to Auriel (already used); next round, Sylyra will also give his reaction to Auriel

"Kitty! You focus on me!" Uragum yells as he generates his blade again and charges the displace by Hex. He finishes by swinging the magical blade to cleave the beast and draw it's attention from Hex.
Fighting Auriel, the first displacer beast is struck by another blast from Carlthuzad, drawing its attention away just long enough for Auriel's halberd to find its mark. The beast howls as a blinding flash of light accompanies the strike, severing tendons as the blade sinks deep into the beast's leg.
Uragum's shadowy blade passes harmlessly through the other beast's form. Hex grits her teeth, preparing for its next attacks while Sylyra's moonbeam passes back over it, but none comes as the creature emits a growl. Both beasts disengage and flee, leaping off in the same direction through the trees.
"That's right, run away or feel the wrath of Pipyap!" Pipyap shouts, stinging at nothing with his tail as he hovers in mid-air.
After the beasts flee, Auriel takes a moment to catch his breath before returning to the others. He approaches Hex first, tapping her gently on the shoulder. "You scared me for a moment there. Glad to see you back on your feet." Then he searches for Sylyra, whom he doesn’t see at first, but relaxes visibly when the druid appears from behind a tree, wounded but in one piece. Uragum, Carl, and Serelis have fortunately not been hurt. And Pipyap—well, the eladrin can't deny that the little imp has been pretty helpful. He even smiles a little when the fiend shouts at the beasts.
Despite all this, the paladin doesn’t feel entirely at ease. "I'm not sure what to think. I'm no expert on displacer beasts, but isn't it strange that they have fled? I would have expected them to fight to the death. I don’t feel entirely at ease knowing that they might be prowling around. We should patch up quickly before moving on, not sure resting here is a good idea."
Hex can't help but flinch ever so slightly as the displacer beast jumps away from her, expecting an attack. She watches confused as the two beasts flee into the forest. Just before they disappear out of view, she tries to cast Hunter's Mark on one of them in hopes of keeping track of it in case they returned.
When Auriel approaches her, she chuckles and shrugs. "Yeah, that's why I don't like fighting on the frontlines," she replies light-heartedly. "I would like to take a bit of a rest but I agree. Resting right now would probably be a bad idea..."
Sylyra steps out from behind the tree, but continues concentrating on his moonbeam until the seconds tick away, and he has to release the magic. He agrees that it is strange that the beasts gave up. Perhaps they were lucky. More likely something else was in charge.
Uragum had half a mind to chase after them. He bent forward as if to run and then stopped. It was the Goliath blood in him that yearned for hunt but his rational mind won out and he remained. He walked back to group up with the others again and like Sylyra, he maintained focus on his shadow blade until it naturally ended. "I'm also no expert on the beasts but if they fled, then it means they are intelligent," he says.
Moving up to Hex, Uragum says, "I don't know that rest is a bad idea. Those beasts are probably the Apex predators in the area. They probably scared out any thing else of danger. Minus any fey types but I think we're to expect them anywhere. Might be, this is just as good a time as any other. Thoughts Sylyra?"
Sylyra looks genuinely surprised when Uragum throws the question at him. But he recovers quickly, his eyelids lowering, and his features returning to their usual look of both boredom and snobbery. "It seems we aren't safe anywhere in this forest. We're just as in danger elsewhere as we are right here."
Auriel listened thoughtfully to Uragum and Sylyra's exchange. With the forest being equally dangerous here or elsewhere, it made sense to rest and recover at that spot before continuing onward. He nodded and said, "You're both right. It sounds good to rest and tend to our wounds here. But," he paused for a moment, turning to look at the body they found that is now resting next to a tree, covered by leaves and branches in a makeshift burial. Facing the group again, he continued, "we need to consider if leaving those beasts alive is a good call. I wonder if any of the other farmers met their deaths because of these beasts. I know that, if that were the case, there’s nothing more we can do for them. But ignoring that, shouldn't we finish off these creatures so they don’t harm anyone else in the forest? I mean," he turned to Serelis, "you walk these paths frequently. You could be their next target if we leave them alive. Shouldn't we chase after them?"
“Well done Pipyap! I’d say you scared ‘em off, bravo!” Carlthuzad says, grinning as he wipes a bead of sweat off his brow. He listens to the discussion about the strange beasts, and pipes up after Auriel’s question. “I think that we should hunt them, finish them… if, you were able to track ‘em, Hex? Otherwise, I think they’ll be difficult to follow.. Although some will just say that it’s the way of nature, let ‘em ambush the next passersby and feast on ‘em, just like they nearly did to us..end up in their bellies.”. Carl shoots a look furtively at Sylyra, and then turns back to Auriel. “So, rest or not? If we rest, they will surely get away.” He looks over the bruises on him, assessing the amount of damage and his ability to proceed, also gauging Hex, Uragum and Sylyra. ”I can stand watch as you attend to your wounds if you want to let them go..”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
“We will need to resort to magic. I can take care of my wounds. Won't be able to heal all of them, but I'd say I'll be fit to face the beasts again, if we can track them.” the paladin replies, then glances questioningly at the rest
"You walk these paths frequently. You could be their next target if we leave them alive. Shouldn't we chase after them? After we recover, of course."
Serelis has a worried look as he gazes toward the path left by the fleeing displacer beasts."I would not have survived that alone," he says. "I can't imagine that the folk of Kabel's Hill would share a better fate. They were a match for all of your skills. If you wish to track them, I certainly will not stop you."
“Well done Pipyap! I’d say you scared ‘em off, bravo!”
Pipyap continues to shadowbox with his stinger for a moment before settling to the ground and placing a hand on his stomach, releasing a small belch.
Sylyra turns to look in the direction the beasts disappear to once again, then nods to himself before turning back to the others. "If we are going to track them down, we should leave immediately. The longer we wait, the more difficult it will be." He raises a finger. "One thing to consider: As dangerous and cunning as this forest and its inhabitants have been, this could be a trap."
"I managed to get my Mark on one of them, should be able to track them fairly easily... though if that's the plan, could anyone spare a bit of extra healing on me maybe? It's alright if not. I'll just have to be extra careful. They seem to attack whoever manages to land a hit on them and move quick enough to jump around all of us."
Auriel nods at Sylyra's warning. When Hex asks for healing, he holds her hand for an instant and places the other over his heart. A brief spark envelops their joined hands, and at the same time, another jumps into the paladin's chest. "It's not much, but I hope it helps."
(OOC: 10 points of Lay on Hands to set Auriel at 22/30, and 5 for Hex to set her at 22/30 as well)
Uragum sighs and begins to stretch out some of his muscles while the discussion leans towards tracking them down. "If it's a hunt, then it's a hunt. I've got one more casting of my blades, which seemed to work well enough, but outside of that, many of my spells have a low chance to connect." He smiles, "Been a spell since I've been in a worth hunt, lead on."
"If we are to hunt, I believe I'll take on a form more suited for tracking." He looks at Hex. "No offense. But two noses are better than one." He looks like he's about to grin at her, but instead his form shimmers and wavers, changing form into that of a black bear. He shakes his bulky body from head to rump, then lumbers up to Hex, boldly running his muzzle all over her body quite liberally to get the scent. Once he's satisfied, he turns and moves in the direction the beasts left in, his nose to the ground.
Sylyra-bear has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Hex is a bit stunned at his boldness at first but ends up laughing delightedly as Sylyra-bear runs his muzzle over her body to try and get a scent. She happily allows him to do so, taking the opportunity to give him big scritches on his head and around his face. Once he's satisfied and walks away, she follows alongside him - focusing on the feeling of her magic pulling her towards the displacer beasts.
Sylyra moves his moonbeam to again focus on the beast attacking Hex. He moves away, again trying to find cover behind one of the larger trees. Taking note of the other beast, he focuses his totem's energy on Auriel to help the other elf vanquish that creature as well.
