Ooboron's ears flap at Theo's revelation about not knowing any magic. "I don't really know magic," the loxodon admits. "I can sometimes make things happen, but a lot of the time it's by accident. That's one of the reasons my grandma wanted me to come here. She thinks —" He trails off, his cheeks reddening a little. "Anyway."

After Elsenia makes her comment about having good friends that stick up for her, Ooboron's shoulders slump in regret for not being more brave.

As the party stands around, the conversation dies off, each of you thinking of the different revelations

Scene #5: Magical Physiologies Exam: Owlbears!

A bit after the incident at the Tavern, it is time for your second exam you all must take: this time, the subject is Owlbears!

As before make a skill check you think is appropriate for studying with a DC of 12. Describe how you use this skill to study. If you succeed, you gain advantage on one of your Testing Phase checks

Owlbear Disposition and Habits. Choosing the correct multiple choice answers regarding owlbears’ hunting, eating, mating, fighting, and living habits requires a successful DC 12 Intelligence (Nature) check.

Owlbear Companions. Writing short essays on common methods for taming, training, and handling owlbears and on keeping owlbears as companions requires a successful DC 12 Wisdom (Animal Handling) check.

Theodore bangs on dorm room doors and announces, "Study Group!"

Aurora opens the door to the girls room, and looks groggily at Theo, as if she just woke up from a nap "What? Oh, we have an exam tomorrow, don't we? Might as well" She beckons to Weaver and Elsenia.

Weaver is busy writing a letter to her gnomish mentor when Theo comes by, so she misses the invitation, sadly.  While she studies, she learns about Owlbear sight, and how like mundane owls their eyes are actually cylinders instead of orbs, necessitating their great neck mobility.  It also means that they have fantastic black and white vision that centers on movement, not color, so she goes down a rabbit hole (sorry, Theo) and starts learning subtle hand gestures for if she ever runs into an owlbear and needs to reach one of her gadgets.

OOC: I think in the future we should all get together to study as a default - people got life going on. I don't think any of the PCs would want to avoid such. Even Ooby, he our biggest best friend.

((Sorry for the wait, guys! Yeah, Elsenia would definitely want to study with her new friends.))

Elsenia is excited for the unit they've been doing on owlbears. Though she's never seen one, she already loves the creatures. They are beautiful, majestic, and terrifying. Perhaps one day she will get to study one from a safe distance. In the meantime, to study for the exam, Elsenia reads about how to track owlbears in the wild, the size and shape of their tracks, even information on their scat, as distasteful as that is. After studying, the druid feels pretty confident she could track an owlbear in the wild if it ever came to that.

Scene #6: Campus Daredevils

One day, while hanging around, you are approached by Grayson and his Gang. He saunters up to you “Big heroes on campus! You’re the talk of the school, what with your monster-dispatching ways. But can you recover the legendary Sassy Sally Jane? Many have tried. All have failed. Meet us outside Captain Dapplewing’s Manor at midnight tonight and see if you’ve got what it takes!” With that, he walks away, snickering to his crew.

Aurora perks up at the mention of whatever Sassy Sally Jane is. She provides you with the following information (in a spoiler because it's a lot, you can all read it):

Feeling confident in her natural abilities to ace exams without proper study, Weaver starts looking into this Captain Dapplewing person.  She decides to change out her Bag of Holding infusion for an Enhanced Defense infusion, and asks Theo if he'd like his leather armor upgraded.  If so, she'll infuse it with a +1 bonus to AC while he's wearing it, as little gears and servos mesh silently underneath a leather weave.  Decorative and functional!  

"If anyone happens to see a gem or a pretty rock or a crystal or anything, save it for me, I can make a little clockwork Ooby to help us out!" 

Elsenia spends some time in the garden, preparing her spells. She couldn't wait to wipe the smirk off Grayson's face. They would retrieve Sassy Sally Jane, which Elsenia thought was an amusing name, and show the bully they were more than capable of anything he threw at them.

 "That would be quite wonderful! Thank you so much!" When his suit is returned, he marvels at the gears and rods and how they create an intriguing pattern across the shoulders.

LAST CALL FOR PREPARATIONS!

Ooboron is very unsure about this midnight adventure. It takes quite a bit of reassurance from Weaver that everything will be OK to at least convince the loxodon to join in, despite his many vocalized pessimisms. It also helps that he did well on his last exam, and he kind of wants to celebrate.

Theodore, encourages Ooby with high praise about his musical accomplishments and his outstanding academic achievement.

"Come on buddy! we're here for you, you're here for us, and we're all in it to knock bullies on their booties! There aren't any other folk in the world that I would trust my fuzzy tail to than you guys. Let's do this thing!"

As Ooboron is comforted by Theo's encouraging words, the dusk of another day at Strixhaven falls upon the Campus. Making sure to be discreet, you all make your way down to central campus.

As the bright light of the central campus fades into the verdant grounds of Captain Dapplewing’s Manor, you see a small group of your peers congregated underneath a massive oak tree in the manor’s front yard. Among them is Grayson and his gang.

As you approach, Grayson looks at the party, and claps a long, slow clap "Wow, I didn't think you'd actually show up. especially this lumbering oaf here" he points to Ooboron "You sure his clumsiness won't ruin your attempt? Not that you had much of a chance anyway. Are you ready to try (and fail)?"
