Congratulations for completing the first chapter. You've received bonus XP for completing chapter 1, but I'm pretty sure you guys are still only 2nd level.
Feel free to roleplay, a short rest, gathering loot, hauling dirty goblin leathers into the wagon to sell in town, all as a single scene (looting)
You can also roleplay bringing the dirty goblin leathers to Phandalin and haggling for the price (haggling)
It will take you a trip to Phandalin and then a return trip back to the Goblin Cave to retrieve all the stolen cargo in Klarg's room. This is fine, if the party wants to take the time to do so. Feel free to roleplay this as a single scene as well (recovering cargo)
Phandalin was a small mining town and over the years it has grown quite large and attracted several heroes and people of interest.
The rutted track emerges from a wooded hillside, and you catch your first glimpse of Phandalin. The town consists of forty of fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins-crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars-surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the side of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs towards a ruined manor house on a hillside at the east side of town.
As you approach, you see children playing on the town green and townsfolk tending to chorse or running errands at shops. Many people look up as you approach, but all return to their business as you go by.
Sildar seems much more at ease. "My friends," he says, "let's secure lodgings. The local inn is very quaint but I know you'll love it."
* After combat "Looting" scene * Delivering supplies to Barthen's Provisions "Haggling" scene * Renting two wagons to return to Klarg's room "Recovering Cargo" scene * Exploring town * Meeting people of interest * Exploring the local area "Looking for trouble" scene * Retool, write up a single post to describe the change * Benching characters who have gone AFK or want to leave the game * Be creative, think of something else, challenge the DM

“Gods are fine and all. But, if they are too busy to listen or help, then what good are they? I prefer associating with a being I’ve met.”
Wilhorn comments to Marc.
He’s exhausted and Drool looks very tired, being relegated to a pack animal to gather all of the loot from the caverns and hauling it to a hiding spot near the trail. It will take a couple of trips to get all of this into Phandalin.
"Whether or not they are busy, whether or not they listen, whether or not they care, the gods are the gods, and sleeping under the stars brings me closer."
Current Campaign(s): Dungeons, Darkness, Drow, and Demons, an Out of the Abyss Adventure, Dungeon Delvers, a Dungeon of the Mad Mage Adventure, Jungle of Evil, a Tomb of Annihilation Adventure
* After combat "Looting" scene Collecting the loot, you help Sildar onto the Wagon with the piles of dirty goblin leathers.
Your wagon ride takes but a day and as you enter town in the evening, you feel proud that you have helped both Silar and his home town. (Wilderness Encounter 5)
* Delivering supplies to Barthen's Provisions "Haggling" scene Before securing a room in the inn, you stop by Barthen's Provisions, to haggle with Elmar Barthen 5, 2, 13, 10
Linene Graywind Runs a trading post and offers a reward for retrieving her supplies, 50 gp if you can bring back the remaining missing cargo from Klarg's hold
With Sildar's good word, you each get a free night's stay at the local inn, others can sleep on the lawn in the open field in the center of town.
* Renting two wagons to return to Klarg's room "Recovering Cargo" scene The next morning, Sildar helps to wave the rental fee and you can recover the cargo from the Goblin Cave and return the next day. (Wilderness Encounter 5, 4)
* Exploring town Toblen Stonehill, Innkeeper
* Meeting people of interest Daran Edermath Member of the Order of the Gauntlet Halia Thornton, Member of the Zhentarim Qelline Alderleaf, Helpful halfling farmer Sister Garaele, Elf cleric of Tymora Harbin Wester, Townmaster of Phandalin
Vex would follow along with the party helping carry and lift the supplies when needed, not that he can help too much. Mainly just trying to keep out from under foot and hoping the townsfolk treat him decently. If any of the other party members move about town he will accompany them to wander about the town getting the lay of the land and interacting with anyone who approaches him.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Before getting to know the townspeople, Sildar suggests that you travel East on the Triboar trail, to get a feel if they can sense more goblin teams in the area, by finding tracks or clues of them camping close by.
Traveling by day and returning after sunset,
Encounter Day 1-10, Night 11-20 1, Type 8, (etc 2, 4, 6)
While scouting further down the Triboar Trail, you run into a band of Orcs. This roaming band would have surely reported back to the goblins and their team, the events that transpired with Klarg and the goblin cave. Dispatching this group of Orcs may not be easy but leaving even one to return with a report may diminish your chances of stopping the goblin threat.
