Glyptemis With your Detect Magic still in effect, you can see that the cloak, dagger, and whatever is within the smaller box all glow with a magical aura.
“I believe we were those ‘poor saps’. I believe we have been here before, most of us anyways. I believe something terrible happened here.” He checks his arms and upper body for scarring as he continues. “I don’t think the wearers of these cloaks are imperial soldiers.” He politely corrects Lyra, “They aren’t a part of any unit I know.”
Leftenant You would find light scarring on the inside of your arms. The lines are faint enough that you'd miss them if you weren't specifically looking for them.
"Looks like there's a couple of bedrooms that escaped the carnage." She calls out to the others.
Thankful that neither of these rooms contained corpses, Ilya moves in to take a look around. In the first room she checks the writing desk for anything that sticks out, also going through the unlocked chest on the wall. In the second room she takes time to collect the sketches, looking them over.
Leftenant considers several things while the others search the manor. “Glyptemis, besides the minor items you have detected with your magic, can you sense what the source of the manor’s ability to cause the nausea and disorientation is? Where it might originated from? If it’s a type of magic, what it is?”
Glyptemis stows the items from the chest in his pack, desperately interested to understand them, but recognizing that now might not be the best time for it "I'll have to figure out what these are later..." he says halfway to himself and half to the room. Looking up at Leftenant he says "I'd have to get pretty close to the source of the magic... if there is one, that is. I'll keep an eye out, but I haven't seen anything so far." With that, he starts looking around for any signs of ambient magical auras throughout the area.
Noticing that the keys he'd passed to Ilya hadn't opened any of the doors, Kalamin returns to stand next to Leftenant. "Could I see that journal we found?...There's something else I want to check. All of these others that took part in the attack had to have been staying somewhere. Perhaps Thalorin mentioned something about where."
"Could I see that journal we found?...There's something else I want to check. All of these others that took part in the attack had to have been staying somewhere. Perhaps Thalorin mentioned something about where."
Leftenant retrieves the journal from his pack and leafs through it with the old man. He puts his ax away but keeps the torch out to better read by. “I thought the same thing. I believe he only mentioned one other individual, I don’t recall it saying their exact places. It might have been someplace Margo already swept…or further in that hasn’t been searched yet.”
After a short review, the Ranger adds, “It mentions two, a Kael and Borin. ‘Borin and I did a little exploration today. Plenty of buildings here are abandoned, ended up choosing some two-story house on the waterfront.’ Not sure we’ve been there yet.”
A few entries later the veteran reads, ‘Seven days without any word from Borin. We had plans to check out an old mill but he never showed.’ “Sounds like Borin met an untimely delay.”
”There were obviously several members of Overwatch here. We were lucky that we found the journal. The mill and the waterfront sound like good places to keep in mind…and two story structures it sounds like. Especially if they have scrawled gibberish.”
OoC: There are more entries in the journal besides the ones listed earlier. Those were picked out as "particularly interesting." Since you're working together, make an Investigation check w/adv to find the specific information you're looking for.
Ilya The writing desk in the first room has but a single opened letter on it, dated to a few weeks before this all started. Inside the chest you find nothing but folded travelers clothes for a man, and a pair of riding boots.
Within the second room, the sketches are...Interesting. Charcoal drawings of strange deformed creatures, some with too many appendages, or not enough, with flesh that seems to melt and ooze like liquid.
Glyptemis Indeed, besides what you've seen so far, you don't see anything in the immediate area that could be causing the disorientating effect around the entire manor.
After the pair check the entries they've already seen, Kalamin takes a deeper look through the journal to look for references to some of Thalorin's comrades and where they might have been staying.
You find a few references to other locations this group was using to hide amongst the townfolk:
Surveillance Log, Thalorin Lightbody: Day 2 Got settled in yesterday. Since I'm new here I don't get to have my own home like Borin, but I'm fine with that. Poor sod has been living here for almost a year now, he looks as miserable as that sounds. House he snagged isn't bad though. Two floors, near the center of town, and right next to an apothecary. Perfect for dealing with hangovers after a night at the tavern.
Surveillance Log, Thalorin Lightbody: Day 4 Met some of the other Village Idiots today. Nice welcome party hosted by a woman named Mel, she's been here 7 months. Overwatch bought her a property at the eastern edge of the waterfront. And then she painted it a disgusting bright yellow. Animal.
Surveillance Log, Thalorin Lightbody: Day 12 Paid a visit to Site-13 today and spoke with Director Olso. He seems to be under the impression that this particular locale is inconsequential, a boring and mundane assignment. Think he should spend a night in my inn room before coming to that conclusion. At least the compound isn't that hard to find, about a two mile walk into the western woods. Surprised more people don't stumble on it.
"I think we're going to be investigating this town for a bit longer than we anticipated..." Kalamin says, raising an eyebrow. "Mill, a few places by the waterfront, somewhere near the center of town...And this Site-13?"
The paladin blows out a long sigh, looking down the hall at the areas they've still not explored. "After we get through this place."
Ilya retreats back to find the others, clutching the sketches in her hand and the letter in her hand. With her free hand, she rubs her forehead. "This is turning into a convoluted headache."
"This cult or whatever this is has some reach. Someone in this household was having an affair with a prince's fiancé."She holds up the letter, "and someone else had a freaky imagination."Next the sketches.
Stowing both, she looks down the hall to the unexplored west wing of the manor. "Shall we continue?"
"We shall." Kalamin says to Ilya. He continues down the western hall through the food preparation area, glancing around the area briefly before opening the set of double doors on their west wall.
OoC: I'm going to push this a little faster than one room at a time. If there's something you want to stop and take a closer look at, let me know.
Food Prep Area You step onto a smooth stone floor into an undecorated room. Crates of now rotted fruits and vegetables line the walls, as well as shelves of knives, ladles, pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils. Ad table takes up the center of the room, covered in more rotted food. There's a woodburning stove connected to the south wall, and a pile of logs behind it.
Storeroom Through the set of doubledoors to the west you find a storeroom. There are some bags of grain that have fallen over, and an assortment of barrels and crates. Another set of double doors on the north side of wall lead to the outside, as one of them is cracked open.
Kitchen Both doors to the hallway south of the room are open, and through them you can see the dining area. In there, you find more destruction, more corpses. Most of the bodies in here were felled by piercing or slashing wounds, dressed in fine clothing and wearing ballroom style masks. Two bodies are hunched over on the west side of the room. A closer look reveals them to be covered in boils to the point that they're barely recognizable as human.
Partially Destroyed Room Moving west out of the kitchen you find a room that has been partially destroyed by fire. Ash and collapsed debris from the second floor cover most of the marble floor here. A chair and foot rest sits in one destroyed corner, a small cabinet stacked with fictional tomes in the other. The western wall has completely fallen in, leaving the burned remains of what was once on an awning strewn across the ground. There's a half dozen half charred corpses inside the room, and the twisted remains of another invader.
A wooden door lies to the north leading back into the hallway(which continues on north), and next to it a flight of stairs leading downward to a metal door. The steps downward are stained red by dried blood. The metal of the door is strange, like iron but even darker. Two different keyholes rest above the handle.
As they move through the rest of the rooms, Kalamin tries to stop wherever there was fighting and pick the amulets off the bodies of those who made the attack on the manor. If he fails that, or afterwards, he moves on to help Ilya with whatever she decides to look into.
Because you know they have them and where they are, you're able to pull the amulets off the corpses (two in the kitchen covered in boils, one in the partially destroyed room twisted unnaturally), but the nature of their wounds is so unsettling to you that you can't conduct a thorough search on them for anything else they might have carried.
Leftenant follows the group, positioning himself to best assist in countering any unseen surprises. That is until they determine where the storeroom is at. Focused on their resupply mission (ignoring the rotting fruit in the kitchen/food prep area) he looks around the area to determine what might be scavenged on behalf of the besieged Vinande. Anything useful he can find he gathers in the center of the room for movement later. After, he once again takes up a position to best react. For he still believes, as his heart begins to race, that this place holds I’ll for him.
Ilya eyes the metal door down the stairs, taking note of the blood on the stairs. Carefully she creeps down, eyes flaring as she takes out the lockpicks and gets to work on the locks.

Leftenant clears his throat, “Perhaps it’s prudent to clear the upstairs before releasing anything that might be there?”
He silently glances at Lyra who may have made comments that indicated his own familiar experiences are shared about stone rooms and the manor.
