Nikkitch quietly sets down all his gear except for what's on his person. As soon as Pisgah opens the door, he'll slip in like a shadow and play his part.
[Insight roll to identify leader while hidden: 15]
Canti doesn't like it. Here they are splitting up again. How was the kenku so sure both doors lead to the same room? She furrows her brow, but with everyone else on board, she keeps her mouth shut and follows Jaya to the other door. She nods at Rico after she explains about using her native language with the defender. She waves a hand at the construct, saying, "Come on," in Gnomish. Once outside the other door, she readies her crossbow and waits for the door to be opened. She will enter third.
DM Comments: First fight! I'm going to try using areas to help with describing where you are. Basics: you can use your movement to go from one area to an adjacent area. Each area roughly corresponds to 30 feet. Where in each area you are is up to you. I'm also going to roll initiative for everyone and then group it in order to speed up the process. You can go anytime your group is up. If you want to flee, that's always an option, we will then go into a chase or you simply get away, depending on your adversaries. Rolling for attacks out of combat isn't necessary. If you surprise your enemies, they will simply skip their first turn as per the surprise rules.
Initiative order Group 1: Rico & Canti & Pisgah < YOUR TURN Group 2: Enemy Group 2-6 Group 3: Nikk & Jaya Group 4: Enemy Leader & Enemy Group 7-8
Chaos ensues. No matter how careful Pisgah opens the secret door, someone has stacked clay plates against the other side. They fall to the ground, shattering into much the same pieces as the ones you have seen behind the door.
After the noise has subsided, one of the enemies raises his voice. "Now what is this? Intruders into our crypt? Such insolence shall be punished without fail! Leave all thine valuables here and begone, lest we haunt thine dreams and come for thou in the night!"
Jaya, Pisgah, Rico: The speaker, you realize, is a vampire! His fangs glint in the lantern light and the room is filled with light fog as if you're in a graveyard in the deep of night. Wearing a noble, slightly old-fashioned outfit, he is surrounded by many more of his kind, some in a better state than others.
The room they're in contains three 6-foot-tall statues depicting nobles in decorative armor. There is a lantern in one corner, giving off a ghostly light that helps the fog look especially theathralic.
Canti and Nikk (Passive Insight): Wait a second. Something is off with that "vampire". To you, it feels more like those people are putting on a well-rehearsed show. The hissing you heard may well be a smoke bomb going off, producing the fog in this room.
L was the speaker. The other "vampires" each have their own looks, with 8 and 9 looking especially gaunt and hungry.
OOC: I think Pisgah, Nikk, and Rico are in group 1 and Jaya, Canti, and Steel are in 2.
Hearing the crash on the other side of the door as something shatters to the floor, Pisgah goes into a rage. As he does, Rico and Nikk see a spiny tail emerge from Pisgah as he rushes into the room. His movement gets him to the end of the hallway and he sees a group of enemies arrayed through the room. Still too far away to make an attack, he uses his action to try and understand what is in front of him. (Not sure what roll Preyfire will call for):
Nature: 8 Perception: 18
If Pisgah understands what is happening, either real monsters, an illusion, or some other sort of trap, he will call it out. If the leader or one of the others close enough to Pisgah close to melee range and manage to land an attack, Pisgah will use his reaction to swipe his tail at their face and force them to hit an AC of 19 the attack.
OOC: If a creature you can see within 10 feet of you hits you with an attack roll, you can use your reaction to swipe your tail and roll a d8, applying a bonus to your AC equal to the number rolled, potentially causing the attack to miss you.
Jaya enters the room, shouting to make a ruckus and making a quick guess at the enemy count, “Twelve Vampires, I have come, surrender and I will leave you be! Roaaaaar”
He notices that Pisgah is already engaging and there seems to be projectiles being shot at the nearest vampire, so he will move in front of vampire #2, without entering vampire L’s space, and attack #2.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: OK, so I see that the groups of initiative aren't the physical groups, so it is actually Pisgah going and not Jaya with the first group. OK, well, Canti wants to go in the room 3rd, so I'm going to hold my action until both Jaya and Steel enter.
Canti tells Steel to enter the room and attack #2 (sorry, Jaya) in Gnomish. Then, she waits for Jaya to enter on his turn.
Action: Ready action for after Jaya enters the room. After he does so, Canti will fire two bolts at #8 from the hallway.
Shot 1 Attack: 17 Damage: 7
Shot 2 Attack: 28 Damage: 8
(Those rolls were Shot 1 Attack: 17 Damage: 7 and Shot 2 Attack: 28 Damage: 8 in case the forum screws it up on edit.)
The blast from Ricos first shots sends the leader stumbling, clutching his side. His face already unnaturally pale, it's not clear how much that really hurt him. The second bullets angle is too shallow and bounces off some leather padding beneath his suit.
Precisely aimed bolts from Canti fly across the room, both connecting with the gaunt figure of Vampire 8. He hisses in pain, but paradoxically seems to be a lot sturdier than Jayas late opponent.
Vampire 2 feebly tries to fumble out a rapier, but in moments Jaya is on him, slashing down. As both hits connect, the mans flesh has been slashed open and he drops to the floor, dead. A lot of blood for such a pale face.
As Pisgah enters the room in his bestial form, the vampires closest to him recoil instinctively. They were suspecting someone else, probably someone that looks like easier pickings. Nonetheless, 4 rushes at him in desperation, brandishing a rapier.
Vampire 4: attacks Pisgah with a 17, but his swing gets knocked off course by a practiced tail swipe, missing with a grunt
Vampires 3 and 5 rush at Jaya, cursing as they are too late to save their companion: Vampire 3: 14 to hit, Damage: 7 Vampire 5: 21 to hit, Damage: 5
Vampire 6 takes out a crossbow and tries to return a bolt at Canti: 10 to hit, Damage: 7
DM Note: Please always tell me in which area you end your turn, it allows me to respond with enemies more quickly.
Initiative order Group 1: Rico & Canti & Pisgah Group 2: Enemy Group 2-6 Group 3: Nikk & Jaya < YOUR TURN Group 4: Enemy Leader & Enemy Group 7-8
Jaja already went, so only Nikk remaining.
Could you edit that map again, so I can see where everyone in the party is? I feel the compulsion to point out that Nikkitch does have Fireball, which can be very bad if improperly aimed.
Irate, Nikkitch mumbles to himself in Rico's metallic tones turning translucent. He taps the Autognome on her head as he passes, turning her invisible as well. Rico hears her own voice come from nothing, whispering "Have fun..." as it fades with the kenku's silent movement.
[Do I need to roll stealth again or, since I haven't stepped into view yet, can I continue with what I had? If I have to roll again, I got 15 (11{+4})]
The vampire who seems to be in charge loudly proclaims: "FOOLS! Thou shalt pay for striking down my spawn! I will take my tithe in your BLOOD!" Equipped with a scimitar in the right and a dagger in the left hand, he rushes at Pisgah, and slashes at him like a whirlwind, making three attacks: To hit: 20, Damage: 6 slashing To hit: 8, Damage: 5 slashing To hit: Nat 1, stumbles out of the whirlwind, slightly off balance
Vampire 7 steps out from behind the statue and levels a crossbow at Pisgah: To hit: Nat 20, Damage: 11 piercing
The gaunt vampires 8 and 9 (who I had forgotten in the initial initiative order, apologies) also make their move. As opposed to their compatriates, they are using their claws to attack. Vampire 8 rushes up to Steel and makes two attacks: To hit: 25, Damage: 9 slashing To hit: 12, Damage: 8 slashing
Vampire 9 uses it's action to dash and rushes up to Pisgah, gnashing it's teeth in anticipation.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
There were plenty of targets to pick from, but thinking that things might get easier once the leader was down, Rico continues to target leader.
Rico moves a little bit closer (staying in a13) so as to get a clear shot at the leader. She takes a couple of shots at the leader. She then calls out to Steel, "Steel, protect Jaya!"
Attack: 25 Damage: 8
Attack: 21 Damage: 14
Steel steps over the dead body of #2 so as to better protect Jala, then attacks #6
Attack: 15 Damage: 18

Rico says to Nikk, "Change of plans, they were waiting for us."
She will move into the corridor (A13, staying at the far end for now since that's as far as she needs to go to see the leader.

Following Canti's directions, Steel moves up and engages #2. attacking with the hand not holding the torch to do a Force-Empowered Rend.

(Nikkitch can keep the 24 stealth roll)
