Can Steel use his Deflect Attack ability to impose disadvantage on the attack on Nikk? I meant to mention that in my post be forgot to include that :-(
Done! Unfortunately the second roll was better [17], so the original one still stands.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Canti manages to refrain from crying out when the thug's attack lands. Instead, she activates a little device Bwibble had told her was for emergencies. What feels like warm water radiates out from the device and spreads all over her body in an instant. She can see that she has turned invisible, and she can't help but grin. Turning, she attempts to move away as quietly as possible.
OOC: I'm sure this will incur an AoO, but I'm hoping the disadvantage will protect her.
She moves to stand near Rico (two squares to the left and one square down). Still invisible, she fires one arrow, becomes visible, and fires a second arrow.
Attack at advantage due to invisibility: 29 Damage: 20 piercing
Steel punches the bugbear successfully, but doesn't dissuade him from attacking Nikkitch. The bugbear brings down its morningstar with force.
Attack: 12, damage: 14 piercing
The kenku may not feel fantastic, but that doesn't mean he's out of tricks. Just as the morning star comes down, Nikkitch concentrates a hidden veil of arcane energy over the point of impact. The weapon bounces off harmlessly. [Arcane Deflection adds +2 AC, can only use cantrips for turn]
He then takes the moment of confusion to lurch forward, his talons coming to rest against the Bugbear's flesh. Sparks fly from his hand and engulf the fool in a wave of electricity. [Shocking Grasp To hit: 27 (crit), Damage: 17]
In Shunn's voice, Nikk then turns to the other bugbears and utters a single word. "Surrender."
[Being able to see someone is a prerequisite to taking an AoO against them, so Canti is totally fine.]
Jaya strikes down X4 with two heavy strikes and the thug topples over the body of X2 already laying at the dragonborns feet. Behind him, Canti releases two arrows, felling X7.
As these two bodies fall, something strange happens. Before they have even hit the ground, two dog-sized brains on four legs appear next to each of them. Their mental probing becomes immediately obvious to those present. They're trying to get into your heads! To Jaya, their telepathic speech is familiar. It is the same communication that he had witnessed previously in the first level of the dungeon.
Their telepathy is addressed to all in the room: "You're suitable as hosts! Don't resist!"
X1, looking at all of this and still looking very much worse for wear, turns around and runs away. He dashes to the east and moves around the corner to get cover from any ranged attacks. Shunn hisses after the thug: "COWARD! Xanathar will find you!X'irlo and Ekix, grab the dragonborn and gnome!"
D1 targets Jaya with a mental assault, trying to crush his mental powers, reduce them to smithereens. DC 12 Intelligence save or take 11 psychic damage and if your intelligence is 11 or lower, have your intelligence reduced to 0. While your intelligence is 0, you are stunned.
D2 targets Canti with the same mental attack DC 12 Intelligence save or take 12 psychic damage and if your intelligence is 15 or lower, have your intelligence reduced to 0. While your intelligence is 0, you are stunned.
During all of the chaos, X5 shoots a crossbow bolt at Rico: Attack: 10
In the other room, Nikkitch channels electricity through the bugbear, letting its rough fur stand out in all directions. The goblinoid remains standing, but the attack had obviously taken its toll.
There is a momentary look of confusion in the bugbears eyes as Shunns voice emanates from the small Kenku. Alas, the adrenalin in these big brutes doesn't let the situation deescalate. They are too whipped up in a frenzy, especially after a large part of their tribe has been wiped out in a single fireball.
Initiative: 1. Pisgah and Rico < YOUR TURN 2. Shunn (S) (bloodied) 3. Bugbears (B1 (bloodied), B3, B6 (bloodied), B7 (bloodied)) 4. Nikk, Canti and Jaya 5. Xanathar thug X5 and Intellect Devourers (D1, D2), X1 is running away
...bury into the chest of the bugbear in front of him.
"Nikk, get some distance from the rest of the bugbears. There are some new brain with legs creatures now attacking Jaya. Help him! "
If the javelin does not drop the bugbear in front of Nikk then the next attack will be another javelin at the bugbear. To hit 20 for 8 damage.
However, assuming the bugbear does drop with the first javelin, Pisgah will move north 35 feet to make another tail attack on Shunn as he says " Shunn, we have no dispute with you or the guild. You attacked us first. Call off your men and stop this! "
Attack2: To hit 18 for 7 damage (magical piercing)
Pisgah then steps 5 feet south around the corner from Shunn and readies his tail reaction if Shunn comes around the corner to attack. The AC will increase by 4 to 21 against the first attack that would hit.
Canti feels the psychic attack, closes her eyes, grits her teeth, and is able to shake off the attack. (22)
OOC: DM, these attacks are considered magical, right? I rolled high enough with one roll, but Canti has advantage all Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws against magic.
Jaya scans the battlefield, looking for the next best place for him to place himself, when he notices new creatures, brains with legs. And then, … he stops moving. He stops caring, and stands their stunned.
[Yes, the intellect devourer "devour intellect" is considered magical]
As soon as Jaya becomes stunned, you see the walking brains twitch and both turn towards him. "This vessel is mine!" you hear the telepathic utterance from the one that stunned the dragonborn.
OOC: Sorry for the delay, DNDBeyond stopped sending me notifications of new messages and I forgot to check for a couple of days.
Not being able to help Jaya immediately, Rico takes a couple of shots at the walking brain that has claimed Jaya (switching to the other in the unlikely event that one shot finished it)
Attack 19 damage 10
Attack 22 damage 15
Steel with attack B1, if it's already dead than B6. He'll use Deflect Attack to protect any allies next to him, or take an opportunity attack if any bugbears try to go around him.
Bugbear B1 has just enough time to lift its morningstar again and promise Nikkitch a gruesome death, when Pisgahs javelin catches him by the shoulder and sends him sprawling backwards. He lies still.
The other bugbears move up. B6 rushes to confront Nikkitch, roaring "DIE BIRD!" and bringing its club down with force. Attack with disadvantage: 17 10 But the club crashes against the arm of Steel, who deflects the attack away from the kenku. The warforged also punches B6, leaving the bugbear with a bloody jaw.
B3 and B7 are occupied with Steel, trying to stop the construct from interfering, frantically beating him. B3 attack: 23, damage: 8 piercing B7 attack: 10
Shunn is attacked by Pisgahs tail. He winces and spits out some blood. "Don't make me laugh, curseling, you had your chance! Even if you're not infiltrating the guild, you're invading Xanathar territory. Xanathar will neither suffer your presence nor my failure to stop you!"
The spider-drows eyes glow with hate. He discards the crossbow with a disgusted grunt and draws a dagger from somewhere in his coat. Pisgah barely has time to climb around the corner, when Shunn already catches up and throws himself at the barbarian, stabbing wildly. The dagger is poisoned just like the shortswords were. Attack 1: 10 Attack 2: 21, damage: 6 piercing, 7 poison
Shunn is close enough that Pisgah can smell the complex dental hygiene issues that come with having spider mandibles.
D1 is riddled with Ricos bullets, blood squirts out, the brain matter quivers. It collapses, dead. A wordless telepathic cry is to be heard from D2.
Initiative: 1. Pisgah and Rico 2. Shunn (S) (bloodied) 3. Bugbears (B3, B6 (bloodied), B7 (bloodied)) 4. Nikk, Canti and Jaya [stunned] < YOUR TURN 5. Xanathar thug X5 and Intellect Devourer D2, X1 is running away
The wizard is surprised to see the javelin be the one to finish that fool, but it's a surprise he welcomes nonetheless. The metal ones' arm is another welcome turn of events, one he compliments with a well-placed firebolt just as his would be attacker is repelled. He doesn't bother convincing the other two goblinoids to surrender, however. Sometimes, dead is just better.

[Firebolt on B6; To hit: 24, Damage: 17]
Given that Nikkitch is in melee range of the bugbear, he would have disadvantage on any ranged attacks, which includes ranged spell attacks. If you want, we can just use what you rolled for a shocking grasp instead. If you're good with that, please roll the damage for it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cantis arrows both hit the brain, splatters of blood tell the story of deep injuries. But it is not enough.
The thing concentrates on Jaya. It initiates a battle of the mind with the severely weakened dragonborn. Telepathically, it announces to the room "Let it be known. This shell is henceforth known as X'irlo."
Body thief intelligence contest: X'irlo rolls a 19. Jaya must also make an intelligence check. If he rolls equal or higher, he manages to fend off this mental attack. If he rolls lower:
Jaya dies. The intellect devourer magically consumes Jayas brain, teleports into his skull, and takes control of the body. While inside, the intellect devourer has total cover against attacks and other effects originating outside its host.
X1 continues fleeing, not looking back. The thug disappears around the corner.
X5 defends Shunn by shooting at Pisgah with a heavy crossbow, then retreats hastily to the east. Attack: 11
[Haven't heard from BoldHand, but going to assume that the damage roll is at least slightly better than the worst result] Nikkitchs attack conntects with the bugbear (B6) and he falls over backwards. He was already heavily injured and this gave him the rest.

Rico shoots at the intellect devourer (D2), hoping that it isn't too late. If that's no longer a target, she targets Shunn (S).
attack 14 damage 16
attack 11 damage 12
Meanwhile Steel attacks the bugbear in front of him (B3) with Force-Empowered Rend. He'll use his reaction for opportunity attack or Deflect Attack as appropriate.
Pisgah attacks Shunn with two more tails strikes. He shouts to Jaya "Fight the voices Jaya!"
Attack 1: 9 to hit; 9 damage (magical, piercing)
Attack 2: 22 to hit; 11 damage (magical, piercing)
If Shunn drops then Pisgah will move south and down the wall to stand in the square in front of Canti and Rico as a shield against the other attackers.
Regardless of Shunn's status, Pisgah will use his reaction to perform a tail swipe at the next attack to hit an adjust his AC by 7 to 24 for that attack. As a bonus action, Pisgah will down his last healing potion, 7 points of healing, for a total of 18.
