As soon as the torches touch the surface of this thing, a muffled roaring sound threatens to overwhelm your senses. A bright flash of fire erupts from within, billowing out and threatening to catch anything close on fire.
Whoever was close to the outer lip of the cauldron (so the people throwing in the torches) need to make a dexterity saving throw (DC:15). On a failure, they take 26 fire damage, or half on a success.
The thing inside roars in pain. It flails about a few arms, but doesn't manage to reach the lid. After a few moments of inhumane shrieking, it is silenced. The flames continue to burn for about ten minutes.
Afterwards, only a black slaglike substance remains. The smell of burning flesh and a mixture of alcohol and acid linger in the air, stinging in the noses of those who have them.
The kobold screams in pain, letting out a few curses in draconic. "Thought we'd be doing the thing a favor, should have known better. Next time I'll mind my business and leave it alone."
He's going to go inspect the barrels, muttering curses under his breath about exploding dwarven beer slimes.
Pisgah sees the coming conflagration rising up jumps pit of the way of the rising flames (DEX save 22 on a Nat 20) arching backward over the stair railing in a flip to land Avenger style at the foot of the steps.

ArdneK raises an eye at him as he walks by, his armor and flesh burnt in multiple spots.
Canti isn't sure this is the right thing to do, but obeys, tossing in her torch when told. She holds onto the rim of the pot and peers over to see what happens, and that's when the fireball catches her. She falls backward onto the top of the arching steps, her wild hair on fire. She beats at the flames, putting them out, but not before she is singed in many places — her head, her forehead, and the palms of her hands. "Ooo, that stings," he hisses.
Looking at the barrels, ArdneK realizes that they are all empty, probably left here for storage. They seem to be made of a strange woodlike stubstance. On the sides, someone has painted words: "Melairkyn", spelled both in darvish and common.
Pisgah can't make out anything of value in the charred slime.
"Uhm, sorry about that guys, I didn't expect the stuff in the vat would blow back like that. There aren't any sounds on the other side of these double doors. Let'sgo see what is in there."
The doors are flung open. Beyond a 10-foot landing, this hall gradually slopes down toward the west and ends in a cul-de-sac. The slope is gradual enough to walk easily, about 5 degrees.
"Not your fault, my idea to throw acid in there. You just never know, thats the fun in .. " the kobold stops and laughs a small laugh, then coughs a bit from his wounds, then laughs again, louder.
"Onwards!" he says, in a tone of confidence, to remind the others of the exilarting ten minute speech he gave earlier.
Pisgah has barely stepped foot onto the sloped area, when there is a *click* from somewhere along the floor. A section of the ground gives way into a pit beneath the genasi!
[Pisgah has to make a DC 16 Dex save or he falls into a 20-foot-deep pit, taking 10 bludgeoning damage in the process.]
If Pisgah falls in, the lid of the pit trap rebounds back on springs and snaps shut once more. Someone without the genasis great skill at climbing and the ability to see in the dark would have found the experience decidedly more problematic, the pit being 20 feet deep and the walls being fairly smooth. At the top there is a mechanism in place that prevents a creature in the pit from opening it. Pisgah can see the sturdy metal hinges.
From the rest of the partys point of view, the sloped corridor has resumed its previous appearance after swallowing Pisgah.
So, we dump the acid and torches, what happens?
