Nikkitch stands, ready to begin again. He hands the wand back to whomever had claimed it. Taking a bite of salt pork and a sip of water, he moves back to the open door, the hallway beyond stinking of putrid flesh.
He listens close, trying to determine if the creature is still where it was, and if possible, how large it may be.
DM Comment: Alright, in that case: Short Rest Do keep in mind that a short rest might be enough time for monsters in the dungeon to move around and interrupt your rest, especially if you're in a room they normally visit. This problem is of course exacerbated during a long rest.
Nothing happens this time. You can click short rest on your sheets. The ones not mentioned below can tell me retroactively what they do during the rest.
I think the abandoned armory would have been a good place to rest. It doesn't stink of rot, doesn't seem to be used by monsters, and has a door that can be closed, and stuff that can be set against the door to make noise if the door is opened.

(OoC: Yeah, but we didn't know the conditions of an improperly timed rest, so it's excusable.)
Rico will explain what that she has found a necklace of adaptation., and that it helps protect against bad air. It doesn't do anything for herself and Steel, since they don't breath anyway, so she offers it to the others, for whoever wants it. It does require atonement, so it won't be active till the next rest.
Jaya takes the wand back from Nikk as he was holding it but is happy to share it with anyone who may want it. Feel free to suggest its use if you think a secret door is nearby.
OOC: Do I learn anything from the horn?
OOC: Rico did you add the coin/pendant to your char sheet from the lair, seem simple enough to not split that pile out but no need to lose it. 😊
Pisgah finds that the hearing horn posesses a strange ability of amplifying and isolating sounds especially when there is other noise about. You could probably hear just as well with it if you were to walk through a raging blizzard. It is an ear horn of hearing.
Jaya learns that the horns command word isn't far from what Pisgah tried before. But instead of a common ale, it produces a liquid that can empower as well as heal, depending on the command. It seems this item has higher potential as well - you see that its construction seems to have been intended to accomodate additional structureal reinforcements - teeth, scales and horn shavings of dragons. Who knows what it might be capable of in the future. It is a dragon vessel (slumbering).

Nikkitch listens to the sounds of the hallway. It seems the crunching sounds from the passage to the east have stopped. Instead, they're coming from the south now and are a bit further - probably some 200 feet - away.
Nikkitch whispers in the din of the corpse, alerting the others that their quarry has moved. He has a thought. He goes back to the others, drawing his knife once more.
He walks up to the nearest manticore and begins slicing its hind leg off at the thigh. In a soft whisper, he asks Rico, "Can Defender. Carry. This?"
[What should I roll to just slice off the leg, not hack it off?]
If you just want to separate it from the body without care of how sloppily it's done, no check necessary.
For trying to do it cleanly, a survival check works. Hitting a 10 on that check means you can do it without making a mess. This takes 10 minutes either way.

He carefully slices away spare fur and skin, snipping sinew and severing tendons with the knife's razor edge. When he finishes, a large bloody leg and haunch sits in his claws.
"It seems to me that Rico has been doing a good bit of healing, if this could produce a healing potion, perhaps we let her carry it and she can be the back up in case you or I go down in a fight. Also, the climbing thing could be pretty handy too so that Rico or Canti could run up a wall and shoot arrows from the ceiling. I'll hang on to the ear horn though, it doesn't really do much other than let you hear things even if there is a lot of other noise but I am going to try it out and see what information I can glean from using it to listen."
Having heard Nikk say the creature has moved down the hall, Pisgah will walk to the southern most door and use the ear horn to listen. Can he gauge how much further south the creature is or how fast it is moving away from us? Perception roll of 21
Pisgah will go back to the north door and report to the team that the creature is about 120 feet down the hall from the southern door and moving away. "We should be able to walk from the north door to the hallway running east without being noticed. I can also do something that will help make us all quieter but I can only do so once before I have to sleep and rest. Since it sounded like the creature was crunching on bones or something, maybe the things lair is just around that corner. We could go root through its lair and see what we can find before we start to trail it."
“That works for me, hear you go Rico, unless you don’t want it for some reason.” Jaya hands the drinking horn to Rico.
Rico answered, "I will keep it safe for everyone," as she adds it to her backpack.
Then she asks, "Does anyone want this Neckless of Adaptation I found? Once attuned it would help protect someone from poison, as well as let them breath under water. It does no good for me, since I do not actually breath."

Nikk shakes his head under his hood. He rustles his pack. He's carrying too much already.
Canti notices Rico offering the necklace and decides to speak up. "Seems to me one of the front liners should take that just in case we set off a trap. It'll most likely hit them first."

Nikkitch earnestly pretends to listen, all the while trying to determine if whatever it is is still there.

OOC: Yes, I added everything she found to a sack of unsplit treasure. I haven't added the manticore wings though.

Pisgah easily recognizes that the sounds are closer if listening from the southernmost eastern door: they are now only 120 feet away.
Arrow indicates where the sounds come from, because it could have been uncertain from previous context:
