“You can relax, a little, a bit of fun is acceptable, if you are doing your duties. What is your work down here exactly?” Jaya presses, “and do you know the way to the next level of this dungeon? it is vital to the guild that we get below as soon as possible.”
Canti and Pisgah [arcana 11, 11], as much as you'd like to, you can't put a definite number to a beholders eyestalks. After all, multiple different types of these beings are said to exist and as aberrations they're bound to make up their own rules from time to time.
The goblins nod understandingly at Ricos remark. "We think she's with Maglubyiet now, probably having the time of her eternal life kicking orc shins."
To Jaya they reply: "We're guarding the guild territory! Nobody gets past us sirs! We also dig and stab spiders and other crawlies! Good at our job we are sirs!"
The leading goblin points towards the door you entered by and says: "Oh right, you want to Shunn. Go east for a long way until you enter a corridor that goes both north and south. Take the south direction. You'll enter a room with a pit and a map in it. South behind the pit, there is a secret door! That'll lead you to the Big Ears watch post and the stairs."
Jaya stares at the goblin for a few seconds, then offers a brief nod. He looks around the room and sends a quick telepathic message to anyone in the group that he can see.
“Any other questions for this lot? I will attempt to get the answer to the passphrase before I let them go, but want to offer you all a chance to ask them anything."
Jaya’s stare hardens as he looks at the goblin he’s been talking to, and he pulls out his wand of secrets. He looks at the wand, then at the goblin and smiles again, holding the wand up, pointed at the goblin.
Telepathically to the goblin:
Last question, and probably the most important of your life.
The goblins cower in front of the wand, looking at with wide eyes. One of them pulls herself together and says "Uh, a-as many as there are stars in the sky, sire?"
Jaya puts away the wand. “We’ll done, well done indeed. Your cooperation has been appreciated; I’ll keep your mistake about the incorrect passphrase a secret. Just between you and me. You are free to return to your guard duties and killing the crawlies and singing.”
“But remember, you never saw us, our mission here is top secret guild business. Don’t tell anyone, even Nimraith that you saw us. If you do, I’ll know.” Jaya again taps his head with his finger. With that Jaya smiles widely, at ease in front of the goblins.
There is a subconscious twitch in the goblins mouth as Jaya speaks about Nimraith, as if the dragonborn had said something really funny, but the goblin quickly gets himself under control and looks appropriately meek and deferential. They all salute.
"Thank you sire, we will. And we will tell nobody sire!"
Unless addressed by someone else, the four goblins head north, back out through the entrance they came from and close the door behind them.
Once the goblins are gone, Jaya will say “Well now we know the password! So, where to next? Sounds like we are going to need to go towards this Shunn character to progress further, so should we head that way now? Try our luck with the password?”
"I think it is either go past Shunn and get deeper into the dungeon, take our chances with the flaky portal, or try any other unexplored passages. The passages could be checked on our way to Shunn too, i will defer to Jaya since he has been in the heads of the guild members. "
Rico comments, "I recommend against using the portal. It could send you anywhere, not even on this plane, and perhaps to multiple locations at once, in pieces. In any case, there would be no way to get back."
Jaya says "I vote for heading towards Shunn. We can explore passages along the way, but I don't remember many unexplored routes we passed. I think there was one in the headless statue room which we think is the way to Shunn, and two near the Bugbears. One of which may lead towards the goblins we just met? But that's a guess."
As she hears the goblins exit, Canti tentatively re-enters the room with a grin. That was fun. She listens to the others debate where to go next, and she stays quiet, deciding to continue tagging along for the ride.
"Okay then, I guess we head back to the other room and take the south doors out of there to keep moving on? Or, I guess we could go back through to where the bugbears are and take one of those passages but my money would be on heading south, if I understand what you're saying Jaya."
“I’m thinking we head to the headless statue room and head east, lets start this showdown / lying-fest with Shunn. I believe we are all decently rested for any potential conflict. But I’m fine with exploring anything unexplored also.”

Pisgah shakes his head no.

How many eyes does Xanathar have?

Everyone gets 300 XP from this encounter, including a bonus for information gathered.
Once the goblins are gone, Jaya will say “Well now we know the password! So, where to next? Sounds like we are going to need to go towards this Shunn character to progress further, so should we head that way now? Try our luck with the password?”
A disembodied voice from the obscured kenku pierces the empty air, a whisper of Harria.
"Have. We. Covered. All other. Passages? This. Feels. Like. The. Last time. We. Will be. Allowed. To cross. Through. Unabjured."
