Telepathically to each party member, Jaya says. “I’m OK with letting him up, and him joining us for now. We’ll keep an eye on him. Don’t tell him about my telepathic abilities, perhaps we can use it to our advantage with him if he is not what he seems.”
At this distance, Pisgah can't be sure that was he hears is merely imperceptible or entirely absent.
Halleth starts to answer, then stops himself, a surprised expression appearing on his face.
"I... no, I'm not thirsty. You don't need to worry about me, I'm fine." He gives a weak imitation of a smile, the dried blood cracking where his face muscles contract. He is clearly not fine, but may not be aware of it himself.
"Okay Halleth, don't go anywhere. Give us a minute or two to find some rope to lower down and help you out."
Motioning the others to the side, Pisgah whispers the question, "Are we sure we want to lift him out? What if his 'friends' put him in there because he turned on them? We'll need to watch our backs. I'm not really sure this person is alive still. Can there be good undead?"
Rico answers, "I have worked with undead before. I do not know if they were good, but they were capable of working constructively with the living, and with constructs such as I. I am inclined to give him a chance, but I do agree we should be wary of him trying to betray us."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Once Halleth is out of the pit, Rico will ask him, "May I check you out? I am the groups healer, and it looks like you have received a nasty head wound."
If he agrees, Rico will confirm that he is undead, try to figure out what type of undead, and if he is at full HP. If not at full HP she'll bind his wounds to see if that works on undead. She knows that her heal spells won't work on undead or most constructs, but perhaps the nonmagical healing would help.
Halleth waits in the pit while you converse, continuing to shuffle around in the small space, restless.
As you toss the rope down, he exclaims: "Thank you, kind soul!"
He climbs up with surprising speed and stength, aided by Pisgah, finally stepping up onto the dungeon floor proper. Halleth smells quite terrible, the stench of the pit but also of his own body. Seemingly unaware of this, he gives a weak smile into the round and says: "I am in your debt. I may yet be able to complete my task."
Rico, having the benefit of no nose, has no issues with looking him over. He is antsy and says "Nevermind the little wound, I need to be moving.", but holds still long enough for you to get a good look. [Medicine][Religion] The head wound looks terrible. The skull plate has been smashed in, you see parts of the brain poking out. Yet at the same time, nothing leaks or bleeds, as if frozen in time. Shows no signs of impairment due to his wounds, being able to move freely. No living thing would be able to function like this - this must indeed be an undead creature.
Halleth politely declines the healing. "All is well, don't worry about me. Your kindness is commendable."
The undead is fidgeting all the while, as if he can't wait to move on. "My revenge calls, I yearn to be off. My killers are below us, somewhere within the dungeon. I know a secret passage within yonder walls." He points at the secret door you're already aware of.
"However, I have promised you my services, so if you require something else here I will accompany you for a short time. I am a cleric by trade, but I know how to swing a mace as well. Not that my healing abilities will do any good - the bastards took my holy symbol as well."
Intrigued by the idea of an undead casting healing spells, Rico asks, "Can you describe your holy symbol? I am a crafter by trade, perhaps I could make you a replacement."
Insight roll 7 to notice the others reacting to his smell. Rico remains oblivious to the problem...
Halleth points at his tabard with the stylized picture of a woman in profile. It seems like the stitching once glittered but is now dull owing to the grime and blood smeared on it. He's describing the symbol of Waukeen. "Just like that. It was an amulet."
Pisgah goes over to the door on the east side of the room and takes a listen with the ear horn. If it is quiet, he will open the door. Perception roll of 23
Jaya looks at the lit lamp, can he tell how long it’s been lit based on what’s left of the fuel? If Halleth has been down there for days and this lamp is lit, someone was here recently.
Pisgah: No sond comes from behind the secret door, so opened it is. Beyond, you see a curving corridor going south for some 100 feet before ending in another secret door that is easy to see from this side.
Jaya: There is still some oil remaining in the lamp. You know from experience that a lamp like this can burn for 6 hours on a pint of oil.
[DM: Ah no, my bad. Using the same perception check, we can say that Pisgah now scouted both]
Here Pisgah doesn't hear anything either. As you open the door, you see the reason why: this corridor goes on for a long time in a northwest direction, then curves northeast out of sight, seemlingly going on for a long time.
Pisgah quietly closes the door leading north. He begins to coil and stow the rope he used to pull Halleth out of the pit as he tells the party:
"Hey folks, both passageways are clear but the path to the north zig zags a bit and I can't see around the second turn. I am going to try to sneak up to the corner and take a look. Canti, will you keep an eye on me from the door so you can alert the others if something happens?"
Pisgah will open the door again and attempt to quietly move up to the corner of the corridor and take a look. (I am not carrying a torch and relying on my darkvision)
There is quite a bit of loose debris laying around on the floor here, some of which gets caught in Pisgahs step, clacking against the walls. Nevertheless, when he peeks out from behind the corner, there are no enemies to be seen. In fact, your darkvision barely lets you make out a large, complex room. There is a door going to the west, an some corridors going off to the east. The complex room itself also continues to extend to the north, but that is veiled in darkness. Pisgah doesn't make out any obvious noises.
DM Note: as usual, I'm describing a bit more than strictly visible just to make the exploration process a bit more streamlined.

"Halleth, are you thirsty?"
As he is asking the question, Pisgah pulls out the ear horn, turns it toward Halleth, and listens for a heartbeat. Perception roll of 16
OOC: Nice, I'd offer the Help on this, not sure how, maybe I can make white noise!

OOC: Just caught up on the private thread and seems the consensus would be to let him out.
"Okay, Halleth, here comes some rope."
Pisgah will toss one end of a rope with a loop tied in it into the pit and then start to pull after Halleth grabs on.

In response, the kenku's hands begin to spark, casting a blue glow on his obscured face and reflecting in his silvery eyes.
"Is. That. A. Problem. For. Us?" whispers a corpse's voice.

Nikk will move to the other side around the room, taking position so that our new party "member's" back is to him. Just in case.
