Pisgah will quickly use a length of rope to bind the wizards hands and arms behind his back and then wind the rest of the rope around him to further restrain his arms at his side. He will then prop him up in a recovery position while he recovers from the drink and the fight.
He then steps out to the kitchen area to retrieve his pike then return to the bedroom.
Nikkitch grabs the book off of the now bound wizard. It's a small pocket-sized thing, probably a travel book - the type of light weight spellbooks wizards bring with them on expeditions, usually featuring a smaller selection of spells than their complete repertoire. The wand is a typical focus, decorated with a ocre leather handle and featuring what looks to be like bite-marks along the hilt. As the kenku leafs through the book, he can read the purpose of the spells within: shape water, control flames, magic missile, misty step, pyrotechnics, feather fall, jump, dragon's breath, fireball and ice storm.
Rico smells the bad breath of someone who has drunk way too much alcohol. It's a wonder the man was lucid enough to cast spells at all. He doesn't seem injured except for the bruises he recieved in the fight just now. From his previous actions, it also seems like he is suffering from a mental condition, perhaps brought on by whatever he had experienced before being transported here.
Pisgah returns from the kitchen with the pike and, looking to Canti, "Better yet, can we return him to where he came from? Is this circle a two way portal? If so, would it be someplace we would want to go to after helping Haleth?"
Walking over to the wizard, "What do we do with him when he sobers up? Do you think he was just drunk or is he mad?"
Jaya says, "Should we take a rest here while we wait for the wizard to sleep off his wine? Keep him tied up and we can ask him questions while we regroup?"
"Yes, I think this is a great place to take a rest. I know Rico was going to work on crafting some things. I want to spend some time with that necklace we found in addition to needing to sleep to recuperate a little. With a single door I think we could improvise a door stop with this pike I have been lugging around to further secure the room. Maybe Nikk, Rico, or Canti can tell if we need to worry about the sigil on the floor and whether or not anything other than the mage could come through?"
If we are taking a long rest, I will spend some of that time attuning to the necklace.
DM: This long rest is going to include 10 hours of downtime (not including sleep), based on how much time is left in the day. Let me know what your characters are doing during that time (if anything).
Once everyone has stated what they're doing, I'll roll for if a random encounter happens. Someone taking watch at any given time is taken for granted, no need to coordinate that.
Nikkitch will take his time to study the wizard's spellbook. Specifically, he'd like to properly copy Magic Missile into his own book, supplementing his own gold with a few pieces from the communal coffer, per the price. He would've preferred Pyrotechnics for the smokescreen, but the supplies required would be far too expensive. Perhaps another time...
Pisgah is going to work on a door stop using the pike (or at least the head of the pike) in an effort to force the door closed in case anything tries coming into the room. If Rico is available, he will ask Rico to look over his attempt to secure the door. He will then attune the necklace of adaptation. Any remaining time, he will spend practicing with the set of lockpicks he found in an abandoned backpack. He doesn't have proficiency with the tool but sees how it could be beneficial.
Jaya has no real plan. He will talk to Halleth, see if he can get anymore information from him about his group, his past, etc. No specific objective, just talk to see what comes from it.
He will ask Rico to repair his longsword if he has time, it’s still a bit ‘damaged’ from the slime.
He will roll his skull die a bit, trying to get it to not land on the skull.
He will generally be close to the door in case anyone/thing shows up during their rest.
Nikkitch busies himself with inscribing the spell from the wizards spell book. Expensive inks would normally be required for the process, but dungeoneering wizards have long since discovered the secrets of invoking Waukeens name in order to turn gold directly into magical energy. Handy!
Pisgah is able to secure the door in a improvised fashion, jamming it closed.
Jaya: Halleth, in his clipped and hurried way of speaking, tells Jaya about his life before the dungeon. His full name was Halleth Garke, and he originally hailed from Trademeet, a small town in Amn, way to the south. His family were all merchants and so he got to travel around a lot. The last caravan that he was a part of got ambushed by orcs outside of Daggerfort. He barely survived, dragging himself to the city. There, he found himself without the means to travel back home. And in addition, there was the shame of having to return without any profit to show for it. In a tavern, he eventually overheard a couple of adventuers talking about a famous dungeon in Waterdeep. The group consisted of four members and called itself the Fine Fellows of Daggerford. They were missing someone who knew the art of healing, so Halleth made his pitch. Maybe, if they were successful, he would be able to return with honor.
"Of course", Halleth concludes "the fine fellows were anything but. They were all snakes and opportunists, and I noticed that too late."
The die stubborny refuses to land on any result except the skull.
Canti: To concoct alchemist's fire (flask), Canti needs some sort of reagent to mix. The reagents amount to a value of 25 gp. She can either substitute with gold directly (representing materials that Canti has brought with her), or use some of the materials contained within her alchemist's supplies (reduce the value of the item by 25 gp). You may also find or harvest reagents as loot in the dungeon.
Once you have the materials together, make an alchemist's tools check (I've added it to your sheet, it's a Int + prof check), DC 12. The check represents 2 hours of work. On a success, you successfully craft the alchemist's fire (flask). On a failure, time is wasted, but the check can be attempted again. Materials are only lost after three consecutive failures.
The rest is uneventful. This part of the dungeon seems rarely visited and the only creatures coming close are occasional goblins loudly using the pump to get water.
Pisgah wakes up and goes to check on the drunk wizard. If he is awake, Pisgah will introduce himself and ask how the wizard is feeling this morning, how he became trapped in the magic circle, and why he tried to attack us immediately last night.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'll use 25 gold directly to substitute for the reagents (deducted from inventory). Rolling all 3 checks to avoid needing to edit or post multiple times. If one of them succeeds, I'll go ahead and add the alchemist's fire to my inventory (currently have none).
Alchemist's tools check #1, DC 12: 18
Alchemist's tools check #2, DC 12: 18
Alchemist's tools check #3, DC 12: 19
Do I need to specifically search for reagents moving forward, or would they be items you'd already tell us about?
DM to Canti: Success! I can tell you about obvious reagents (like dungeon flora that would match), but reagents can also be harvested from slain creatures. Basically, if you feel like a creature would be a good source of alchemical substances, feel free to try your hand at harvesting them. The skill check to harvest depends on the enemy, but when in doubt, survival works.
The wizard comes to a few hours after your confrontation. As he opens his eyes, they are dilated and he reacts as if waking up in a nightmare. He whirls around, taking in the place and those present. He addresses all of you as if speaking to a single person. "H-Halaster, stop this! I know I failed. I'll try again. I can make it right! Let me go!"
He grabs for his wand and spellbook, but finds them gone. His eyes, those of a caged animal, fall to the door, still closed with the spear. It's easy to see that he might do something foolish unless measures are taken.
Hearing the wizard calling out for Hallester to stop, Pisgah moves beside him and attempts to soothe the wizard. "You are safe my friend. We somehow pulled you through a magic circle and you immediately began to attack us. We have no wish to harm you and have only been trying to prevent you from harming us. You safe. Hallester is not here. Are you hungry or thirsty?"
Pisgah [Persuasion: 12]: The wizard retreats from the genasi with a mix of fear and mistrust. It's clear that what he sees is different than your reality. He groans. "I know you're disappointed! Please don't make me drink this, if its even real."
He has backed up against the door and begins kicking at the spearhead. "I'll find another way! I'll sober up! Please master, give me another chance!"
Nikkitch grabs the wizard's spellbook and focus, powerful tools he'd rather weren't in the wizard's reach.
...
...
...maybe a quick peek in the book, skim for spells he may not know.
