Friedrych follows the group to the table. Hearing the waiter tell them what the special is, he is suddenly reminded of how little he had eaten during the day.
'I'll have the special.' He says with a smile to the waiter. 'And a second kids size portion of the special as well. Thank you.' He feels a small tap on his cheek. 'Do you have any fruit-based drinks? Or anything really sweet?'
Akaas opens his mouth to answer Crispy when the barmaid walks up. "Wine, please," Akaas says. After the drinks have been ordered, he smiles at Crispy. "Life at Monastery of the White Lady is ... structured," he says, his eyes twinkling. "To keep the mind focused, we leave little time for leisure. Rise early. Stay busy. Stay devoted. When I was a student, I spent a lot of my day learning. We have a wonderful library at the monastery. Much of it is devoted to my Lady, Selune, but we also study many other subjects. Those like me who enter at a very early age are blessed to be tutored by scholars in religion and history, among other subjects. Of course, much practice is given toward strengthening the body. That was my specialty. And then we also serve the community through service — meals and construction, for instance. Once I became a master, I spent much time training others, of course. I did that for almost 100 years." He looks down at the table and his voice takes on a bit of resignation. "Alas, my years got the better of me and I was relieved of my duties. 'Spend your days communing with the White Lady,' the younger masters advised." He nods. "I tried that. It was nice in the beginning." He looks up at Crispy and gives her a sheepish grin. "But I got tired of the quiet." Now, he looks around the table at the others. "And that's why I left. They gave me their blessing," he assures them. "Now, I am an old has-been. I have forgotten much of what I used to teach. But I hope to honor Selune with my last years as a wanderer. And perhaps I will still be able to serve others on this new adventure." The ancient halfling looks around the group with a little bit of concern. "Did I answer your question? I'm afraid I may have gotten off track." It's clear he doesn't remember who had asked him the question.
"Nonsense, you've answered well dear Akaas. Your lady will be happy to see you spending your last century wandering and seeing the world. We may even have the chance to come back to the monastery and regale them with tales of your exploits of heroism and tales of the sights we see. Truly a good way to serve your lady, to inspire others and enjoy yourself as we wander this vast world."
The serving girl will take the drinks order, offering a sweet wine for the fruity drink, and have a house brewed drink (what's that? Homebrew?). After a moment she returns with the drinks.
Mr. Migello heads over to the table and clambers into a seat. "I see you took no time waiting to order." He says with a smile and a pat of his portly stomach. "This place always have something hearty on. Oh, and the meal will be on the company pay; drinks beyond the first round though are your own."
Crispy pauses to give Finlan a wry glance. That shortstack was hungry.
She turns to Akaas. "It's funny how I find so many similarities in your story. Most of the things you did during your time at the Monastery I did as well, but look at how our lives are so different. I could barely read or write when the Commander found me dying in that alley," she says, drifting to another time, "and he made sure that I woke early, trained hard, and learned how to read, to write, to do math, and other similar things. It's almost like I was a personal test of his, a personal project. He pushed me hard. He broke me over many times physically and mentally. Treated me no different than any of the other recruits. I wanted to quit, I cried constantly and wanted to run away countless times, but he never gave up on me, and I wasn't able to get away. As the years went by and the training continued, I got stronger, it got easier and easier until one day I found myself under control. He taught me to control the beast inside." She pauses for a moment to return to the present. "Well, anyways. I wish I learned more things spiritually. That's one thing they didn't teach. The sole purpose of the training was to forge a weapon of stealth. I lack plenty of wisdom."
"I admit that I shed many a tear those first couple years myself," Akaas commiserates. "I was very young and had just lost the only family I ever knew. I think it's very important to have parents. I tried to be a father figure to a few of the youngest who came to the monastery. I'm not sure I did a very good job." He gives Crispy a little nod and then indicates Chetin. "You have right here two resources if you do wish to learn more about the gods who watch over us. I'm sure within the Company, there are a host."
”I pretty much grew up without parents. The Commander was the closest thing to authority I ever knew. But..that’s something I might consider.” she mused, but added, “I‘m sure I am cursed to some degree. My nightmares, my choices, my past. Most times I think I am beyond redemption.”
Akaas nods at Crispy. "We all have skeletons in our closets, but the amazing thing is that there's always someone willing to overlook our indiscretions. The question is whether we can." Akaas then turns to Finlan and gives him a broad smile. "So, tell me, fellow halfling, how strong are you?"
Well one time I was thrown into a gladiators arena to fight a goliath! It was totally awesome! You all should've been there. he says looking to the group.
I was using my trusty rapier and shield while he was using a GIGANTIC longsword and wore plate armor. It was such a good fight, even the crowd was enjoying it.
Everyone told me I was gonna lose especially since I wasn't going to wear any armor but that didn't bother me.
That battle was probably the most fun I've had my entire life! He kept swinging his sword trying to hit me and I kept dodging. Unfortunately his armor protected him pretty well so it was also very hard for me to hit him too.
He did land a few blows but it wasn't too big of a deal, I snuck between his legs and cut the back of his ankles right under the armor plates. He fell and all I had to do after that was stab his throat. For winning I got this super cool cloak! As he says this he shows off the ornate cloak he has been wearing.
Crispy, obviously, will take a long hard stare at her chest as she leans over, and then catching the waitresses eye, winking. Hopefully, Borg doesn't see this. =P
If she does, Crispy raises her glass rapidly, nearly spilling, trying to divert the attention to something else. "To the journey!" She says, laughing.
The serving girl blows a kiss to Crispy and Borg before she leaves, heading to the next table to take the empty tankards away.
After a large gulp of his wine, Mr Migello wipes his mouth. "Well then, let's hope for a safe journey south. Tell me, any of you come from that way?"
The doors to the kitchen open as a couple more members of staff come out with large platters of steaming hot food, the aroma of the prime cuts of meat and herbs garnishing it flow forward, like a prelude their delivery to the group's table.
Crispy leans back, pleased and thirsty.

Thank you very much!!! Finlan says excitedly.
I would like 3 of the special and 3 drinks to go with it! says Finlan when it comes his time to order.
He's been very much excited to be with the group. Today went by very easily, he's excited to see what else lies in store for the group.
Crispy pauses to give Finlan a wry glance. That shortstack was hungry.

I'm just really strong! Finlan says obviously not picking up on the social cues very well.

"You, my little friend," Crispy says, patting his head, smiling, amused by his story. "Are one very dangerous person."
Mr. Migello looks to the fellow halflings at the table. "Well remind me not to get on your wrong sides, cousins. Ah, here we go."
The waitress returns with the ordered drinks, making sure to lean forward as she places the drinks around the table.
"Well, I suppose a quick toast; to the journey!" Mr. Migello says, grabbing his goblet and holding it up.
To the journey! Finlan happily joins in.
Akaas joins in on the toast.
Borg laughs and nudges Crispy gently. "I see mine aren't good enough for you chick." Borg says the crispy in a jiking tone, before taking a drink.
