Also, I would imagine that the idea is to speed along more towards the wilderness, with maybe a brief summary of other things.
I would imagine that they could Faen's body and bury it in the forest, which would be consistent with his love of the natural world. We could even mark the location on the shiny new map if, for some reason, we want to have some scene that happens there later.
That way, we could wrap up that plot point with a bow and fold it into the wilderness travel, thus progressing things more in the direction that I think we'd like to head.
Quote from SunDial365>> Yeah he gotta I'm like not sure where I'm going with this. I want him to change out soon and honestly even he does not like his own disguise. I am guessing he at least would not want to change out in town because he doesn't like the speed of rumors/be seen by the baron, but I didn't know if we were gonna do an inn scene. but at some point yeah he's gonna be like "it's me y'all! surprise!"
If we do just skip to the wilderness scene. then he did tell them at the inn in a very dramatic way and feel free do make them awkward with each other after that because I LIKE TENSION
I mean...Balen was a kuo-toa when they first met, and then he wasn't the next day at the Baron's manor. The fact that he can change form is almost certainly known among the party by this point.
oh yeah fair enough. I was thinking since he actively deceived you guys when he was in the library and was feeling badTM for the whole baron kicking them out thing.
I think Rinn is probably going to be looking at Balen like, "Why are you going out of your way to disguise yourself from us?" He will then just tell him to use his energy for more productive manners, but threaten to give him a light bonk with his quarterstaff the next time.
that's true. in a world with so many magical creatures and such it probably wouldn't be so surprising nor such a big deal then. and they did just murder a bunch of people and it was like fine^TM. things be like that. that makes sense. yeah I'm like trying to not drag this out to much so we can go forward hghhh but I did get too wrapped up in the narrative. I'mma edit it
I absolutely love narrative and I can get wrapped up into it sometimes too. It's all cool. Don't stress out so much.
Also, it's still (hopefully) early days for Balen. Still time for you to grow into the character, and for you to figure out how you want him to behave with the rest of the party.
In the end though, remember that it's a game, and to have fun. Don't beat yourself up.
Plus, I think it's rather fitting for someone who just graduated from being an apprentice (Rinn) now has to deal with someone who is still figuring himself out (Balen).

Aw thank you. I really like your narrative as well and how much detail you put into your characters!!! It's honestly reall cool.
Sorry I've always been an overthinker, but yeah I'm trying to be chillin. irl I'm doing three majors in college (political science, economics, and statistics) because I'm so high-strung and on the board of too many clubs so adding anxiety for this to the mix isn't the healthiest. But this is really fun and I do enjoy it. It gives me something to play out in my head while on the train. So I do want to thank you for the reassurance. That honestly really made my day. :)
And that is really cute! Rinn's going full circle. He's gonna be a father figure now.

Thank you. I'm glad that you enjoy my efforts. I've been playing roleplaying games since I was 12 (taught 1e by my dad), and I'm now 34. To say that it's been a big part of my life is an understatement: I've met many friends and my long-time girlfriend through DnD. I view it all as collaborative storytelling with a ruleset to keep things a bit more contained, and thus adding to that story by being thoughtful with my character is part of contributing to said story.
I'm likewise thankful that my words made you feel better.
Finally, unrelated, I sympathize with being a highly anxious person with way too much going on. I got two degrees simultaneously (Mathematics and Astrophysics), and then almost got my PhD in the latter (was finishing up the research and doing the writing necessary for my thesis). Figured out that, after burning myself out due to years of working 12+ hours days, that academia wasn't for me. Now I write code for a living, all while learning to be a more "balanced" person and to take care of my mental health. Still learning, but I'm better than I was 4 years ago.
Also, with that last point, I do have proof that I am a former astrophysicist, however it does identify me by my real name. Perhaps in time after I get to know you all. Some people think I exaggerate when I say it.
1. Choose directions: Investigating Goblin tribes. Head towards Shadowfang Caverns using map for help. 2. Pace: Normal (change to Slow once we get within 2 hexes of destination) 3. Navigator: Toads, Forager: Rinn (if fail -> Toads uses Goodberry)
Goblin Information:
„Balen also learned of some restlessness amongst the local goblin tribes. Usually quite unorganized, they have recently been called under the banner of a creature known as Grimgnaw, who has self styled themselves as the Goblin King. There have been some raids on nearby settlements and trade caravans that have been blamed on this new alliance. After these raids, Grimgnaw the Goblin King has amassed a horde of stolen riches and has been said to be marshaling his main forces in the vicinity of the Shadowfang Caverns.“
... however it does identify me by my real name. Perhaps in time after I get to know you all. Some people think I exaggerate when I say it.

Nah, I believe people pretty much anything. Much more exciting! Mathematics and Astrophysics sounds like an insane academical achievement. I know someone with a chemics degree (he's kind of a genius) and someone working on their computer science degree and those sound very demanding on their own.
[insert amazingly awesome drawing right here but I edited it out]
THAT IS SO GOOOOOODDDD!!! oh my god I'm gonna save this. I love all the extra details and also the fact that they are sailing through a desert?! gave me Moon Knight (2022) finale vibes
the fact that Balen's on the top lookout type thing (I don't do boats. I'm such a city kid) bet he wanted to be tall and feel leaderlike. I like how you add Faen's viola icon and also the butterfly-looking part - is that his soul?! that's really cute it's going over Rinn
I like Yaudara's pose he's just chillin relaxin. I like the question marks over Toadstool's head I dunno why but it gives me meme vibes (for some reason this picture comes to mind. in a good way!)
also I like how Ichep is doing the "Ship's Ahoy!" pointing type thing. love that

Yeah no forums are way too open. I've been lurking sometimes and there is really no privacy.
Also yeah no with the names it's way safer without them, but I did give you all nicknames in my head.
ScienceVersusAdventure you're SVA (like the art school!)
Miglasezis you're Migs because someone said that one time earlier and the name just stuck
Bird94 you're just Bird but I imagine you with a red parrot icon because I once worked at a zoo and the aviary was my everything there
Samhain28164 you're Sam-I-Am because I watched the Green Eggs and Ham show on netflix recently and that's all I can read your name as unfortunately
Then lastly Kisarali, you're Fox-of-Nine-Tails or just Tails for short like in Sonic
for me online I go by Skipper because I really like the penguins of madagascar character and also the other penguin Skip from club penguin... I just like penguins???
edit: the username SunDial365 comes from a word my mom said in tagalog that I didn't understand and sounded like 'sundalit' (all I know it means 'come here') and basically mangled in my head to become 'SunDialLit' I didn't like the Lit part sounded too cringy so I added 365 like a calendar

Wow that's amazing it has been with you for a long time and that it has helped you meet so many people! That's truly really cool and that's awesome that such a game can really bring people together. That's what I like to see in a world. Sometimes I feel like so many people are isolated and lonely and it just makes me sad because I know what it's like to just fester in hate and anger and it's truly no fun. I'm 21 right now (gonna be 22 next month. just like the Taylor Swift song ohhh~) and this is my first time playing. I really like the idea of collaborative storytelling. It seemed really cool. I've been meaning to watch the movie that came out last year and have been eyeing it on my amazon account, but I've always seen DnD through pop culture and figured I should give it a shot!
ALSO WOW those are hard degrees. Like that is extremely impressive!!! But I'm glad you found out how not to burn yourself out. Burnout is very real and emotionally taxing so I'm glad you took the path that was right for you! That must have been really hard though and I'm sorry you had to go through that. That takes a lot of courage to stand up for yourself and your own mental health and find out where you need to be. That's really cool and impressive.

I see in IC you two had fun writing with each other, how lovely! :D Considering posting but Rinn wrapped up the scene so well... hm...
Plan for travelling (Kisarali's version I.)
1. Choose directions: Investigating Goblin tribes. Head towards Shadowfang Caverns using map for help.
2. Pace: Normal (change to Slow once we get within 2 hexes of destination)
3. Navigator: Toads, Forager: Rinn (if fail -> Toads uses Goodberry)

Aye, Aye Cap'n!
Quick sketch(.io) of the image inside my mind lol
Toads just be like "We're lost oh lost we are. Oh no, no."
Hopefully your futuresight is poor
