Rinn recognizes the frog-men as bullywugs. Always hungry and thoroughly evil, these frog-headed amphibious humanoids dwell in rainy forests, marshes, and damp caves ... considering themselves the right and proper rulers of those places. The giant toad that accompanies them is, well, a giant toad.
Before Rinn could share any information with the group, Toadstool walked forward accompanied by the paladin and began casting a spell.
His intentions were pure, his words in common were soothing ... but something was lost in translation, and the bullywugs began shaking their spears in anger and croaking loudly!
OOC — We will now track things round-by-round, gang. On the map, all of the vegetation and large boulders provide cover, and the water is hip-deep and will count as difficult terrain.
Toadstool has his quarterstaff in his one hand that he is using as a walking stick all the time. Wooden bark shield is on the back and right now the 10 goodberries are in his palm.
He puts the goodberries in his trusty berry pouch that's on his belt (OOC: hopefully a free action. If not, then Action is to put away the berries).
Action
Put on the shield.
Bonus action
"Uuuugh, friends, the frogs are not friendly, not friendly at all" Cast Shillelagh
"Thank you for the warning." Yaudara readies his yklwa and shield, holding a melee attack action in case one of them charges near enough to strike, and will stay with Toadstool for now.
Ichep had felt like the tension would lead to no good and of course when it came to bad omens he had to be proven right. He didn't understand the first thing about being in harmony with nature, in actuality he found peace and nature to be complete opposites. A giant battlefield where everything is constantly trying to ruthlessly profit from other beings.
Movement - 10 feet diagonally ("South-East")
He moves a bit closer to the front, absolutely hating the sensation of the wet morass under his hooves. „Ugh, I swear if one of them knocks me over...“
ACTION - Cast a spell
Ichep asks for the blessing of his god in form of Bless (on himself, Yaudara and Rinn). „As humble servant I ask for thy blessing for those worthy to bear it.“
Since Rinn was traveling, he had his quarterstaff in his dominant hand (right), while his dagger is sheathed at his side. He knows what these creatures are now, and he does not like the look that they give them. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to warn Toadstool before the bullywogs and their giant toad mount had started showing signs of aggression. Rachael is in her pocket dimension, waiting to be called again and throughly hating wetlands.
"Best be weary of that toad, friends," warns the elf to his companions, "lest you want to end up in its stomach."
The wizard decides the best course of action to be to move a bit forward (10 ft forward) and attempts to toss a mote of flame at the Northern-most bullywog. He wants to try to fight defensively and let the hostiles come to them.
When they began trekking through the wilderness, other than the wet grass and soggy mud under his feet (still he wore no shoes), the main things that weighed on him were Rinn's words and the encounter with the baron from the day before. These memories were faded and blurred, washed out as if they were a thousand years ago. But yet what he felt in those times were what was singed in his mind and still stung as he felt the fire of his own words at the baron and the helplessness, but it was as if the events themselves were lost in translation. Neither could he recall exactly what Rinn said but he knew he felt deeply, something deeply about it. His memory, like swiss cheese, was filled with holes and just as flimsy, like you can tear it apart at seconds and he'd be grasping for air. Usually these memory wipes would come from moments of high stress, which made him wonder what had happened back in that dungeon that day before. Must had been real bad.
Not remembering had its perks, it softened the blow of hard times, something that wasn't so bad when he was alone. He didn't like to dwell on the past. But now that he was adventuring with this ragtag group of strangers, it was getting harder to focus. He saw their faces and knew their names (he wrote them down), except Yaudara because, sorry, but names with more than two syllables always became scrambled. Yet he couldn't help but mix and match them with each other and it was hard for him to keep track of who's who. Not that they all looked the same, but... they did all look the same? If that makes sense, he didn't know.
He hated how much effort he had to put into concentration. That's why he was so unfocused the night before in the inn and didn't take any of Toadstool's offers. It was a nice gesture and he appreciated it (he had completely forgotten about Ichep's words that apparently he had almost died in the dungeon), but once he had immediately changed out of his elf persona when his name was mentioned, he had flopped onto the bed without so much as a a second thought or a 'goodnight' from exhaustion.
Now that they were back on the road again, his head was mostly in his journal sketching. The trees, the forest, the grass... they were all nice. A welcome change from the small town. Somehow there it was getting too cramped and he was glad to get rid of that elf persona (which he had kept on while they were in town, but ditched as soon as they were out). He was thankful for Toadstool's navigation and of Rinn's resourcefulness. He gave them extra friendship points in his head, albeit he did get a bit jealous. He didn't like having to be helped and it took a hit at his pride. Such a 'self-made man.'
At the sight of the toads, he stopped in his tracks with his pencil still barely lifted off the paper. What.... He didn't have time to think when the orc basically tapped him in the fight. The surprise hit him first along with some frustration at being surprised, but he held his tongue at that. Right, he was a trader. 'A good salesman, as a matter of fact.' He thought to himself as he went looking in his bag. "I, um, all I got is junk..." He eyed Toadstool warily before continuing to find something to try to sell with. He started thinking about another way out and wondered if he should do a little show for the frogs if that would be any help. He envisioned using his rope to do a twirl dance for some reason before his imagination divulged into a kind of cowboy lasso type show to the point he was distracted.
It wasn't until the orc himself stepped to the toads up in a show of kindness that kicked him out of his daydream. 'Oh how sweet,' he thought before the saw the shift in tone in the toads' demeanor. Oh no. No, this was a fight. Well, good thing he was always prepared.
FREE ACTION
"Okay, so now we talkin'!" He yelled absentmindedly and grinned mischievously. He got out his shortbow and positioned the scope to eye level. Dang, was he always this much itching to fight? Apparently he was, and he felt it was too late to take his words back now. He was giddy for something else to happen take him out of his mood.
DODGE + MOVE
After looking back at his companions, giving them a head motion signal of where he was going, he moved southwest on the map past the boulder as he attempted to get towards the shore of the river. As he moved he would dodge at any attacks as he kept his eyes on the frogmen. Now was not the time to play.
**Toadstool declared too many actions. His shield has been retrieved, but not donned yet. *Ichep's declared square was not available after Rinn occupied it. I had Ichep move 1 more square to the east.
Toadstool sees that the frog people scatter and he goes "That's no good, no good at all, I must..."
Bonus action:
You hear a loud roar and you see that the massive form of Toadstool grows even bigger as he uses his 1st wildshape and turns into a Brown bear
Movement:
Run 40 feet to the right in a straight line.
Action:
Dash the whole 40 feet diagonally (South East) until the bigger rock on the side OR to engage the BIG toad, because it might be close, because it moves before me.
„I do hope none of them are going to call reinforcements, that would be plain annoying.“ Suddenly Toadstool roars as his form shifts into a Brown Bear making Ichep flinch in surprise. 'Ok. That is indeed new. I hope he is still in contr-' As the bear charged away with full speed, Ichep's hopes dwindled.
As Balen saw Toadstool turn into the bear, he shouted gleefully with a fist pumped in the air, "Alright!!!" 'What a battle cry.' Heck yeah, but it was fun. He loved anything that had to do with changing one's form, and that excited him. He could feel the adrenaline in his veins as he moved towards the river's edge.
Cunning Action: Dash (through the water)
((Strength: Athletics: 12 +4 = 16))
'Come out little froggies. Come out and play~' He thought to himself, but didn't actually say it out loud so as to not reveal his position. The more it lingered in his head the more unnervingly weird it sounded and he didn't like it. He stayed close to the tree at the other side of river.
Action
He was ready to use an unarmed strike to the nearest bullywag if they come up.
((I'm not sure if you need to roll first for this but Unarmed Strike: to hit 12+4 =16 Damage = 3))
Rinn worries that they're about to be flanked, and that he should start to soften the opponents at a distance while he can.
Movement: Rinn runs up towards near the current location of Toadstool (diagonal 10ft, forward 5 ft).
He starts to mutter a few arcane words as he uses the diamond in his pouch to send a Chromatic Orb (lightning) at the giant toad. (OOC - I believe that is within 90ft, and if not I will move slightly closer in the direction of the toad to make up the difference)
Action: Cast Chromatic Orb (Lighting). To Hit 13 + 5 = 18. Damage = 13.
The wizard's lightning spell crackled through the air and struck the giant toad with a resounding blast!
Toadstool, tapping into his primal connection with nature, transformed into a towering grizzly bear, its massive frame roaring and barreling toward the wounded toad and its bullywug rider with thunderous footsteps.
Meanwhile, the rogue found himself in a precarious situation, facing off unarmed against two spear-wielding bullywugs. With agility and guile, he dodged and weaved, narrowly avoiding their thrusts.
The bullywugs, now confronted by the towering grizzly bear, rallied their forces and attacked with spears and savage bites. Despite the wounds inflicted, the bear remained undeterred.
As the chaos unfolded, one lone bullywug, recognizing the threat posed by the remaining adventurers, leapt into the murky waters and began swimming with determined strokes towards the trio of paladin, cleric, and wizard. With each stroke, its bulbous eyes gleamed with malicious intent, ready to unleash havoc upon its unsuspecting prey.
OOC — On the map, all of the vegetation and large boulders provide cover, and the water is hip-deep and will count as difficult terrain. I have zoomed in on the action, but there is more map beyond this snippet. It is ok is your move would take you off of the edge ... I can just zoom out again.
Init - Round 2 Summary 19 - [14/14hp] Rinn. Move, Chromatic orb vs Giant Toad, a hit! (13 lightning damage)* 15 - [26/39hp] Giant Toad. Move + Dash. 12 - [11/11hp] Balen. *This attack hit through 3/4 cover (+5AC). Also, don't forget ... Rinn is Blessed and may add 1d4 to all attack rolls. **Yaudara did not move or take actions during round 2. On round 3, Yaudara may move twice and take two actions.
Toadstool will snarl "Hrrrsssh" at the giant toad and try to bite its face off.
Bite: a fail, rolled a 1 (go go lowrollers!!!!)
As his jaws slam shut without anything between them, he stands on his back legs, roars "Raaaarhgh" and slams both his front claws down on the toads head.
Claws: 14+6=20 to hit and 2d6+4 (1+1+4=6) slashing damage
Bonus action:
Combat wild shape - rolled 1d8, got 7, so 7 HP healed. Expended 1 spell slot (2/3 expended), Now at 29/34 HP.
Yaudara raced through the undergrowth, marveling at the bear's speed. He dashed around the trees and rocks on the north side of the stream, eventually ending up beside his bear companion, who was locked in a deadly fight with the giant toad and its rider.
"For Torm!" He struck the beast with his yklwa.
Previous round: Moved 30' and took the Dash action for 30' more
This round: Moved to within melee of the giant toad, ending up just to the right of Toadstool, and melee attacked with the yklwa for 11 to hit and 8 damage. Calling on the might of Torm, he expended one 1st level spell slot to add Divine Smite to his damage, doing an additional...3 points of radiant damage. Torm must have been helping another one of his servants at the moment.
EDIT: I also forgot to add my Bless d4, but I believe I hit the target w/o it.
Seeing that Toadstool and Yaudara seem to be handling the giant toad and the two bullywogs together, he decides it best to try to aid Balen, who is always one to get himself into difficult situations, or so it would seem.
He growls a bit in frustration, but remembers that he was once one to charge into danger; he has a scar or two to remind him of his former youthful foolhardiness.
Movement The elf moves diagonally-west 10ft, and then another 5 ft west, stopping under the shade of a gnarled bog tree.
Action The lightning still dancing on his fingertips from the last spell quickly turns instead to flickering embers, his eyes flashing with a subtle red-orange light as he uses his favorite cantrip at the injured bullywog diagonal from Balen. Fire Bolt against B1. To Hit: 1d20 + 1d4 + 5 = 3 + 4 + 5 = 12. Damage: 1d10 = 2.
"Whoa!" He shouted in surprise of actually hitting the bullywug the first time. Balen didn't actually expect to make contact with its slimy face. After shaking his hand off from the initial blow, he grinned more wildly and laughed more manically, "Ha Ha!" The growling and roaring from brown bear that was Toadstool was like music to his ears. He, too, would have liked to go feral. The fight gave him something to think about- something to do, to feel. It got his blood pumping and took in the high from the battle.
ACTION
(( Shortbow: to hit 8 + 2 = 10 ,,, Damage: 4 + (Sneak Attack 6) = 10 I don't think it hit. :/ but I rolled sneak attack damage just in case. sorry about that ))
Balen aimed his shortbow against Bullywug 2. 'Gross, frogs...' He thought initially, even though he liked frogs. They sort of reminded him about the sea and also being from land and the fact that they were slippery. Very much qualities he liked. Maybe it was just these frogs? 'I like frogs.' He reminded himself.
MOVE (towards the tree edge northeast)
The frogs... they were getting too close. Too close for his liking, he was feeling claustrophobic up in here, and he realized he needed to back up a bit. He moved over towards the northeast point of the river and the tree, trying to figure out what to do.
Opportunity Attack if anything happens
In case any froggy thought about moving the wrong way (especially after Rinn's lighting rain. That was epic!) he was going to use an unarmed strike against them.
((Unarmed Strike: to hit 5 + 4 = 9 ,,, Damage = 3 ughh the rolls are low today my friend. ))
((sorry this post isn't too very thought out. got busy at school today))

OOC: Reaper ability allows me to target them both if they are still adjacent to each other when my turn starts.
MOVEMENT - 5 feet south
Ichep tries to keep up somewhat with Rinn, but he feels overwhelmed with everything happening around him only vaguely aware of the approaching Bullywoog. He feels so sluggish, so slow to react. A bad omen.

<---- me irl slow reader, even slower writer easily jumpy thanks for being patient

ACTION - Cast a spell
Ichep calls upon the merciless powers of the dead to cast Chill Touch targeting both Bullywoops that are attacking Balen.
B1 (Hit: 10+4 Bless = 14, DMG: 5)
B2 (Hit: 17+2 Bless = 19, DMG: 5)
OOC: Reaper ability allows me to target them both if they are still adjacent to each other when my turn starts.
MOVEMENT - 5 feet south
Ichep tries to keep up somewhat with Rinn, but he feels overwhelmed with everything happening around him only vaguely aware of the approaching Bullywoog. He feels so sluggish, so slow to react. A bad omen.
