Eron leans in and quietly says, “It is my theory Keledek has been spying on us somehow.” He then retells the information he learned about his journal.
“Whatever happens after we perhaps commandeer a ship, I’d like to invite you to my cabin. I could sure use a detection spell to look over a few areas where a cult of rot and evil may have stashed a vile artifact.”
”Speaking of vile evil, Tillman have you had a chance to peruse that book Iuz the Evil?”
The blue-haired half-elf would simply give the respective council members Primewater and Solmor a pleasant smile and a small bow before heading on, pondering the information she gathered.
Later at the Wicker Goat, Arlynn would order in something nice to drink while listening to her new friends. "I'm not surprised to hear powerful people like the council members being in possession of enchanted items, or that they were being spied upon I'm afraid. I'm not saying we should not follow through with the council's plan, but we must expect the smugglers to be aware of it now. I don't think we should go aboard any smuggler's vessel before making sure they are not simply laying in wait for us." The blue-haired half-elf says quietly before taking a sip of her drink.
Fane listens, her drink untouched, but her plate empty.
"Does anyone think that followers of Iuz are involved with this smuggling operation? The presensce of his followers in town is already agitating enough, for me. That divination spell in the council meeting has me going left to left, right to right. But I think we continue as planned. Help Saltmarsh, figure out the smugglers."
As she talks a small spider sits on her left hand, possibly mistaken for a tatoo, but when she finshes speaking, it runs up her arm and rests on her left shoulder.
She smiles, "Leo thinks a spider in more conveintent for sneaking around the Goat, but I dont like her fragility. But she is headstrong. For a spider." The spider quickly runs across her face, directly across Fanes mouth, and rests on her right shoulder, forcing a smile from Fane.
"Oh sorry, are any of you afraid of spiders? or owls, or ... anything? I'd hate for Leo and I to give you a fright, she does like to take different forms."
"You are the most amazing caster I've ever met Fane, your connection with Leo and all that you can do, I'm really glad we've met and gotten to know one another. I'm quite sure any form Leo takes not including otherworldly forms is okay with me." Eron eats hopefully some fried potatoes and maybe some fish, and a beer. He wipes his mouth with a cloth napkin, "Please excuse me, I had no idea how hungry I was (finishes his beer) and tired. (he yawns). Fane would you like to take a look at my journal? I felt like Keledek was holding back and if you can make any sense out of this, plus he tried to keep it at the end to destroy it he said. I would be greatly relieved if you had it for awhile at least."
"How could anyone have anything against something so cute." The blue-haired elf says with an amused smile, her slender finger briefly petting the spider resting on the elven arcane warrior's shoulder. Arlynn twitches ever so slightly as Eron mentions otherworldly forms. "You have anything against extraplanar creatures in general then Eron? Not all of them have evil intentions you know, but I suppose you should be wary of what you don't understand?" She says calmly with a pleasant smile. "Seems like a good idea to gather what information we can while we wait for our cue so to speak."She adds with an acknowledging smile to Fane.
"You have anything against extraplanar creatures in general then Eron? Not all of them have evil intentions you know, but I suppose you should be wary of what you don't understand?"
”Imps Quassits Ixitxachitl Dretch I’ve never met a good one, my experiences haven’t brought me into any fey or celestial interactions as yet. Are you versed in many other planes, Arlynn?”
Fane takes the journal "I would love to take a look, with my magic I'll be able to read it. I will look at it later when safe in the room." She puts the journal in new bag they found in the haunted house.
"Oh no, well not in any scholarly way at least, just the stories about fantastic creatures from otherwhere you come across when travelling. Not familiar with the creatures you mentioned but I assume they are visitors from the lower planes that you have come across during your adventures. I've of course heard of Iuz the Evil and his growing realm to the north but I doubt he would put much interest in these parts of the world, for now at least. You can count on me helping out with the smugglers but stopping a demonic invasion seems like a task for someone more powerful than me at least." The blue-haired half-elf says as she keeps enjoying her drink. "So, the three of you, did you meet here in Saltmarsh or have you adventured together before?"She asks with a curious smile.
"I boarded the Laughing Monk Captain Reyhanna's ship at Seaton on my way home. When we disembarked it was Eileander's greeting and reading of the town rules and expectations that gathered us together then a drink at the Wicker Goat. Before you know it we were checking out the wreck of the Belle Meade, and fighting off sea devils together. This latest mission to disprove the haunting of the old mansion however, well I'm entirely thankful you were all there. Should we successfully put an end to the smuggler's, I can only hope that we will continue to work together. Did you hear Tillman even Arlynn knows of Iuz the Evil and his empire." Eron makes a warding off evil gesture as he looks towards Tillman.
"Not sure it would be considered an empire, yet, other than by that old cambion himself." The blue-haired half-elf scoffs. "As far as I have gathered old Iuz has so far only managed to unite some humanoid tribes in the Howling Hills, but if the old one had his way I'm sure he would rule all of Flanaess one day. There's still considerable forces of good to oppose him though I've heard so I wouldn't lose any sleep over that particular prospect. Still, finding that cloak is admittedly a tempting venture once the smuggling operation has been dealt with, one way or the other."Arlynn comments. "What about this Zuggtmoy creature, who is that and what business would they have with Iuz the Evil?"
“Some of that good dies everyday, and Iuz’s hold grows. Evil seems to flourish while good people sit idle. Even here a kingdom perhaps two away his delegates are present right here in Saltmarsh.” Eron looks distraught but he holds it in. “Zuggtomy I know nothing but Keledek seemed to imply she was a goddess of rot, that sounds like an alliance with Iuz would fit!” Eron slams a fist down on the table gets up and goes outside to get some fresh air.
As Eron leaves, the blue-haired half-elf looks over at his two companions, they knew him better than she did after all. She felt like there was more than a general concern for the threat of the Old One behind this. After a moment Arlynn too gets up and follows the upset warrior outside. "I apologize if I offended you Eron, I owe you my life, a debt I might never be able to repay. I didn't mean to be disrespectful to your concerns about Old Iuz, I just meant that we have threats both closer and more to, at least my, umm, level of competence. Still, the least I can do is support you if you see a way to oppose evil. Did you want to find that cloak then let's do that, but perhaps deal with the smugglers first?"The blue-haired half-elf suggests with a cautious smile. "Let me buy you something to drink and we can plan out how to thwart the plans of Iuz and this Lady of Fungi." She offers with a warm smile.
Eron is taking some deep breaths letting his nerves settle, as Arlynn approaches. "Arlynn you don't owe me, good people just help each other, it's what makes us good. Whereas evil people take us for everything we have. My father was a soldier fighting with the knights of the Hart in Furyondy my home country, he died fighting Iuz's iron grip over his lands and people. My mother brought me here to Keoland and raised me, she thought we were marked by Iuz and would be slain. She got worse over time until she disappeared now all I have left is my duty here to Will Tom and Eliander they helped me when I thought I had nothing left. I admit one day I want to return and take up my father's sword, but not today. We will thwart this ship of pirates, protect Saltmarsh then I do plan on checking a few key locations near my cabin I think there might be more clues to this Zuggtomi cult." One last big deep breath, "If you're offers still good I could use a drink. Thank you Arlynn, I'm glad we were in the right place at the right time, to help you out."
"Not as glad as I am." The blue-haired half-elf chuckles. "But that's sweet of you Eron, I'm sorry to hear about your parents, your father would be proud over you, carrying on the fight, even if it is not at the front, you can count on me to help you with finding that cult." She says, leading the way back inside the Wicker Goat. "Now, Iuz is clearly evil, and you clearly have a good heart Eron, I admire that, but I hope you won't label everyone you run into with either or, the world is more complex than that, in my experience at least." Arlynn continues once back at the table, motioning for the waitress to take some more orders. "I'm new to these parts of Flanaess though, maybe you all can tell me more about the current political climate here, particular between Keoland and those Sea Princes, what kind of threat could they reasonably pose to Saltmarsh?"
Fane watches as Eron and Arlynn return to the table and sit. After the waitress leaves, she begins.
"I came to Saltmarsh directly from the Fairy Kingdom of Celene. It is here that I met Eron and Tilliman, and now you" she says, looking at Arlynn. "Your question about the current political climate here is a good one. One that I, and those back in Celene, are very interested in too. I am curious how followers of Iuz, work, apparently, openly here. Is there something to worry about, or is this town just, more accepting then others?
Additionally, I am concerned about the slavers and pirates operating in the region. I have heard rumors that some pirates are targeting Olves specifically. While I condone slavery for all, the targeting of Olves is of great concern to the Fairy Kingdom. I believe it's imperative for us to continue on the path to stop the slavers we just encountered. For the benefit of all."
After a pause, she continues, lowering her voice a bit, "Not everyone in the Kingdom believes fully in its isolation from other nations. So between all of us at this table, you can call me an unofficial representative of those in the Kingdom wishing to interact more with nations of the Sheldomar Valley."
As the next few days pass, the party is able to offload most of the spoils of their conquest of the smugglers.
For the linens and wine they recovered, they had to turn them over. These items bore foreign custom markings and had not yet properly passed Keoish inspection and thus had to be compensated by royal law. The items were confiscated and moved to Seaton for processing but the party was compensated 50gp by the town counsel for their trouble.
The rest of the gear and golden items were sold off for the best prices you could find in town, but for a handful that had no takers.
The books don't have a market here, unless you want to offload them for 1gp each. Eliander was curious to read them, but they were not in a condition that was interested in purchasing them for his library.
The platemail, dented and pierced, as well as requiring some intense cleaning and disenfecting to remove the corpse-stench, fetched a good but not great return.
Altogether (including the 50gp from the town counsel for the smuggled goods), the party netted 315gp. That is on top of the coin collected at the house.

Also during this time, Tillimanwent to visit Gellan Primewater for his tour of the noble's collection. He returned only briefly, gathering his things and offering fast-talking apologies and muttering about needing to look into something for Gellan on an urgent basis, and begging off any further questions or offers of assistance. He hurried out of town, east on the coast road toward Seaton.
Finally, it was communicated by the town counsel that they recognize your time is valuable. While you are kept in town, essentially on an on-call basis while you wait for word about this mystery ship, the counsel provides each of you an advance of 50gp, with the promise of an addition 150gp each if you are successful in either sinking or seizing this vessel.

So the way I understand it is:
Total coins from house: 75 gp 85 sp 60 cp
Total loot sold from house: 315 gp
If we divide by 4, we get this per person.
99 gp
15 sp
13 cp
If we divide by 3 and make it up to Tilliman when he returns, we get this per person.
132 gp
8 sp
23 cp
In addition to this, everyone adds 50 gp for the "advance".
Is this accurate, before I figure out what I can afford?
Do we have a preference with three for four way split?
If possible in Saltmarsh, Arlynn would go shopping for some new nice garments for herself, and perhaps some nice jewelry.
