"Aye, I'll light a torch, you keep any eye out for those Trogs and drill them if they make for the surface." Pulling a torch from his pack, his flint and steal, he gets his torch lit and then sets it up to shine so they can see.
With the torch held high, the shadows dance off the rough surface of the cavern wall. Tinkling from the gentle waves of the pool to dance upon the ceiling. Seeing the situation before them, Rothgar turns and runs back the way they came. "I didn't sign up to die in some stinking Trog lair" he bellows. The torch light fades into the distance leaving you once again in darkness.
Zelaerys turns to Dav'eed and whispers, "You weren't as close knit as I had thought. They ran off quickly, do you think we can manage this alone?" Should Dav'eed respond affirmative, Zelaerys approaches the water front carefully in hopes to draw out one of the troglodyte and offers a prayer to the great mother, "Blessed Yondalla, guide my steps and shield my heart. Grant me the courage to face the dangers ahead and the strength to protect those in need. Let your light be my guide and your wisdom my counsel. In your name, I act. Amen."
(I assume we don't see the elven fighter as they are beyond the dark vision range and, I think, even beyond the range of the torch that was there only for a short time.)
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
"We all just met tonight. I thought they were made of tougher steel, but I suppose not. Yet, we cannot abandon the poor townspeople if we have any chance of freeing them. We have an advantage at range, but will be overrun if too many get too close. I don't know how long we should wait - they have the advantage in time..."
"I think I can keep them from entering this tunnel. If I'm careful, perhaps, I can act as bait, and you can take them out once their heads pop out of the water?" Zelaerys sighs and with a gulp, he adds, "I'm just not going to last very long if they manage to get their claws under my armour. Be the great mother with me." He scans the surface of the lake for ripples that could indicate movements below the surface.
(Still dodging attacks. Positioned at the end of the tunnel just where the lake begins.)

Zalaerys stands close to the water, his shield raised. Leary of the waves and the depth of darkness below. Wasd that a set of eyes, that a fin. He waits for the length of several long breaths, did they leave? A glance back he worries that Dav'eed had run off as well, the man was unseen in the shadows behind.
The water erupts as a Trog launches out of the water, leaping with speed from below. Its claws held viciously ready to rend the halfling, it sails through a dangerous arc. An Arrow soars past the shorter mans ear, catching the trog just before it landed. It tumbles to the ground at the feet of Zalaerys. The second to charge out of the water runs right over the corpse of its fallen. Its claws swipe back and forth trying to catch the dodging man.

Others look with pleading eyes, "Are you there, free us." they cry into the dark. "Please help us" they plead in earnest.

Zelaerys grunts in response to Dav'eed's assessment and tries to keep up his stance, but then he hears distant pleading. 'The Townspeople Dav'eed mentioned. The second Trog falls, an arrow sprouting from its eye. It topples backward into the water. Zalaerys takes amoment ot forfend, the weave pulls from the aether, forming blade like forms of deadly sharp magic. Charging forward, Dav'eed hot on his heels. Across the room the Large Trog has a commoner, willing to fight back but quickly losing. The Large Trog grabbed the man by the throat and slammed it to the ground, a wicked clawed hand raised to fall and tear the man to shreds.
Dashing from the passage, the large lake cavern reveals itself. At the Southern end of the roughly circular cave a round disc of churning water hangs in mid air. The border of the sphere is humming with deep purple and black energy. The edges sparking outward in a maelstrom of energy. Its interior is roiling with energetic water, only a portion of its substance crashes outward, cascading to form the pool you currently dash through. The portal, revealing the depths of a watery interior appears unstable. A wide passage exits through the North, tumbling down a chute, frothing violently into the darkness beyond.
As you run towards the other side, a Trog, previously pressed into the stony wall charges outward at Zalaerys. Dav'eed only a step behind interrupts the creature who turns to slash at the Half-elf instead. Another Trog, returning from chasing a phantom runs towards the center of the room, aiming to intercept you just past the rocky outcroppings.

The rogue was feeling pretty confident, having dropped several troglodytes and a giant spider all by himself so far (at least - that's what he will tell the girls!), and so he is rather surprised when the next smelly creature actually bypasses the cleric and scratches him! The nerve!! Keeping his bow in his left hand, Dav'eed draws his rapier and sticks the nasty in the chest right after Zelaerys' spectral blades slash at it, too! (Attack: 21 Sneak attack damage: 5 rolled in game log)
"Thanks, Zel! Let's finish this one quick and help the townies...that poor fella ain't looking too good!"(If this current trog happens to fall, the Dav'eed will sheathe his rapier and bonus action Hide to set up his next round shortbow attack!)
The Trog got it's claws dug into Dav'eeds side, it goes limp as the rapier sinks to its hilt, the creature sloughs off the Half-elf's side. Seeing another of its tribe die by your hands the Southern Trog turns, dashing back underneath the waterfall and diving into the deeper waters of the cavern lake.
The two of you make it to the rocky outcropping. The Large trog looks up, a limp form in its hands. Dropping the body it turns and charges towards you. Reaching the opposite side of the large rock it begins leaping to land atop it...
...and catches an arrow from the half-elven rogue in mid-jump! (Attack: 15 Damage: 7- 8 if hidden before) Dav'eed then moves to hide again (bonus action stealth: 9 =( hoping to be in a good place to sneak attack the monster next round...
Suddenly, out of the southern passage, a hulking Goliath emerges from the darkness, chainmail and mace glinting in the meager light. His bald and tattooed face looks dirty and haggard."Light be praised! It looks like you could use some help, I know I can." First he raises his reliquary as mystical energy swirls around him, sending off a Guiding Bolt.He then raises his shield, and marches steadily, as close to the Trog as he can, trying to provide a target other than the townsfolk.
Attack: 15: radiant damage: 15 (and if it hits, the next attack roll against him is made with advantage.
Covering up Dav’eed’s attempt to hide, Zelaerys rushes at the large troglodyte a little sideways to give Dav’eed a good shot. During his move, he holds his shield high and it appears to be catching the little light present in the cavern, or is it shining all by itself? Zelaerys mouthes a prayer to Yondalla and blesses Dav’eed, the goliath (if possible) and himself. Once he got the trog’s attention, he calls out to Dav’eed in a surprisingly powerful undertone, “Now! Fire!”

Dav'eed finds his senses suddenly sharpened, his body acting instinctively to the cleric's command. The rogue nocks, draws, and releases another arrow at the big troglodyte faster than he had ever done before! (Ordered and blessed attack: 21 Sneak attack damage: Unable to parse dice roll.)
The Large Trog leaps into the air, its legs coiled to thrust toward Dav'eed. Claws and teeth leading the way. A flash of bright light erupts from the distance, slamming into its back as a quick pair of arrows are sent twisting into its hide. The Trog drops dead upon the large boulder.
The large circular room is quiet, except for the falling water, erupting from a round portal. The edges of which spark a deep purple and black. The interior looks into an under sea environment, the churning water occasionally broken by the colorful flash of a school of fish, or an octopus jetting past. The tinkle of water cascades out the Northern passage and deeper into the hill. The last Trog alive disappeared beneath the surface of the waves, diving to the depths near the portal.
The flash of light, the bolt of energy came from a small room, the mewling of near blind humans can be heard, prisoners taken by the Trogs during their raid. The pleading and cries for help continue unabated from near a tall Goliath standing at the waters edge.
Breathing heavily, the goliath turns to the other fighters, and introduces himself. "Well, hello. I thought I might be done for down here. The name's Huttoff, by the way. What are you all called?
