(For Tarnce, we discussed the Forge of Souls use a lot at the begining of this thread (starting post 4) you can assume Fah'lin tells you all about it. Sometimes he rambles on and on.)
If Chercheur wished to join us as far as Phandalin he might like to be introduced to the Rockseeker brothers and could possibly portent success at the forge. Fah'lin does some investigatoring around Neverwinter (Investigation: 11 + 2 w/ guidance from his allies.)
Chercheur is intrigued but a bit busy now. As he’s said he doesn’t like to travel anymore but he would be willing once the archeological project is up and running.
Translation: you want a high level wizard to make an Arcana check for you. He’s willing to do it — once.
OOC: If Gijigume goes for some rogue, what skill would Arya suggest he take (apart from the obligitory thieves' tools)?
Not thieve’s tools, using expertise on those would be a waste. Either acrobatics and stealth or for a more counterintuitive choice insight and perception.
OOC: No, the proficiency to take, not expertise, although hints on those are useful too. With no Wis bonus, and negative Chr, I guess expertise will be Investigation & a physical.
Edit: Answered my own question, really. If he wants Investigation for Expertise, he'll have to pick it as his rogue choice, and then one he already has, probably acrobatics.
I've had a think about how the forge works and decided that we need a small revision.
Common DC 21 2000gp Uncommon DC 26 8000gp Rare DC 31 18000gp Very Rare DC 36 32000gp Legendary DC 41 50000gp
The GP cost was too low and basing the Arcana check on the number of pluses was too vague. The rarity scale is already built in to the existing items so there's no longer a need to guesstimate how many pluses.

Oh, that Investigate roll is crap and you find nothing of interest.
Arya has decided to buy a house and hire some staff to look after her toys while she is on the road (changing her lifestyle to aristocratic and 30gp per day when not adventuring). However she has discovered that in this strata of society people don't take a 14 year old orphan girl seriously even if she has the money required. She is weighing her options between killing all these people who dis her or getting someone from the group to front for her until she goes 9th level and gets:
Infiltration Expertise
Starting at 9th level, you can unfailingly create false identities for yourself. You must spend seven days and 25 gp to establish the history, profession, and affiliations for an identity. You can’t establish an identity that belongs to someone else. For example, you might acquire appropriate clothing, letters of introduction, and official-looking certification to establish yourself as a member of a trading house from a remote city so you can insinuate yourself into the company of other wealthy merchants.
and can build an identity that all these snobs will accept. Any volunteers? Once she has the house the group can use it as a base, she finds that you people actually don't annoy her beyond reason.
Of course Fah'lin takes the job, but he doesn't seem to fully understand what's being asked, as he prepares an adoption Ceremony.
“Adoption! No, no. I just need you to talk to the snobs at the real estate agents so that I can buy a property. Maybe put it your name until I get all the paperwork sorted.”

Adorable is one of the most obnoxious words ever invented.
Anyway, you finalise your downtime in Neverwinter and get your gear together for the trek. Chercheur introduces you to the caravan you will be guarding, lots of workers who will be doing the digging and carting, scribes to keep meticulous records of everything they find plus two nerdy wizards Merin and Marin (twins) who will be in charge of the dig. They have with them the Mirror of the Past, the item you traded to Chercheur when you first met him.
Your trek to the site will be just over four days, slower than your normal travelling speed because of all the wagons and gear.
Day 1
Morning 2 Evening 19 Night 14
Day 2
Morning 13 Evening 12 Night 10
Day 3
Morning 3 Evening 15 Night 11
Day 4
Morning 20 Evening 2 Night 15
Day 5
Your are approaching the site were the advance team has been the preliminary work. You come over a rise to see the camp and you see 3 hill giants and 6 ogres assaulting a group of people who have taken refuge in a small cave/crack in the rock. They are 100' feet ahead of you and an ogre who had been set as rear watch sees you appear.
You can't use guidance for initiative unless, for some reason, it was already cast before initiative was called for. It doesn't really matter now as you go before the bad guys.

Basically anything, as long as you can get a really good Arcana check and have enough gold.

Aeliarin makes sure to kill plenty of birds, rats, etc. with his magic wand to keep it happy.
