Kristofferson replaces the wood beam. "Well, now we know where they keep their own monster. Yeah, there's an owlbear in there. Looks to be held captive."
Badger says, "Do you think we should just leave the door open and let it escape as we move north?"
K: "Any noise will wake it. Go north to the next room and I'll open the door and stealth to you."
Badger moves north to the curtain, ready to run if need be.
Ash is similarly ready to run.
K unbars the door, opens it a crack, then hurries north through the curtain. Stealth: 25 (crit!)
You push through the curtain to find a room small room with doors to the east and west. The door to the west reveals no clues to what is beyond, but through the door to the east, it is easy to hear two voices in a heated discussion—a loud, growling, agitated voice and a silky smooth reply. You could not make out the words.
Badgerlays his hands on Ash's chest and casts cure wounds, healing him for 8 HP. He does the same for himself, healing for (oof) 2 HP. He drinks his healing potion, healing for 7 HP.
Ash says, "Thanks, Badger. I feel better now."
K: "Are you able to heal us if we fall, Badger?"
Badger: "Yes, I still have a little magic left. I think Ash still has a healing potion as well."
Ash checks his bag. "I do. Take it if needed. I'll keep it in this pocket." He places it in an external pocket for easy grabbing.
K: "Okay. Let's move in while they are arguing."
Badger says, "One more thing." He holds his battleaxe aloft and whispers a prayer to Tyr, channeling divinity to make it a sacred weapon, embuing the weapon with temporary magic. "Okay. Let's go." He pushes open the door.
This chamber has been set up as a crude living space, with thick furs thrown on the floor to serve as carpets, old trophies hanging on the walls, a large bed to the north, and a brazier of coals burning brightly. A round table with several chairs stands to the south near the door. Near the table, on the floor, is an unconscious dwarf who looks badly beaten.
A fierce, old bugbear, surprising agile and strong, stands by the table with an angry look on his face. A wolf sits beside him, also agitated. Across from them is a female elf with a sly grin on her face as if amused. When you enter, she hisses at you with a surprising tenor to her voice and her eyes flash something evil.
The bugbear turns to you. "What is the meaning of this? Who are you? Tell me now or you die where you stand."
Badgerlooks quickly at the dwarf and the elf. He thinks back to the letter to Albrek about dwarves, maps, and a black spider figure. Is the dwarf Gundren? Does the elf have any spider emblems? Is there a map on the table? Perception: 10
Badger replies, "We're here for this one." He points at the dwarf. "The Spider wants him with his brothers." And he scoffs, grins, and nods like that's obvious. Deception: 15
The bugbear shrugs. "Take him and get out. We're negotiating here."
The elf takes a step forward, arms crossed, a look of suspicion on her face. "Why send you? Why not Cragmaws or Redbrands? ...Or Vhalak?" She raises an eyebrow.
Badger shifts his weight and shrugs, responding impatiently, "Ha! Cragmaws and Redbrands are getting thinned out by that adventuring party we're supposed to be out hunting for. But we got called back to get this dwarf to the spider. Let us do the job so we can get back on the hunt." Deception: 16
The bugbear roars. "Ah my Cragmaws will defeat those adventurers with no problem! Just let them try to attack us here!"
The elf remains calm but suspicious. Her eyes go blank for a few seconds, then return. "Why would the Spider want the dwarf without the map? And why send me to get the map and you to get the dwarf? And King Grol, I'm sorry, but the adventurers have already attacked here and cleaned out much of your Cragmaws." She has used a thought reading ability. She hisses and turns aggressive.
Ash runs north of King Grol, pulling out his shortbow. He whispers harshly into the bugbear's ear, in Goblin, "She's planning to betray you!" (Deception: 3, unless advantage is granted for Badger's setup and goblin speech, then 21.) He shoots at the elf (16 to hit, 7 piercing) "Get behind us!"
Rather than pull a weapon like a typical elf might, this elf steps up to Badger and simply attacks with her hands with surprising ferocity (13 & 9 to hit) but both harmlessly hit Badger's armor.
K sees Ash speaking goblin to the bugbear and takes a chance. He steps between Grol and the elf, holding out a protective arm to the bugbear (deception (+advantage) 17), then wacks at the elf with his quarterstaff (19 to hit, 5 bludgeoning) then punches her (14 to hit, 7 bludgeoning).
Grol kneels by the unconscious dwarf and pulls a dagger. "Stop, or I kill the dwarf." He readies two dagger attacks on the dwarf if there is any aggressive move against anyone by the three of you, which would be death to the dwarf.
The wolf waits for a command from Grol or an aggressive move against Grol; he readies a bite attack on the first person to attack Grol.
The elf looks at Grol and snarls, "Wait, Grol. That dwarf has information the Black Spider wants. You want his wrath on you head? Then kill it for all I care." She slams Badger again, triggering Ash's attack, possibly triggering Grol's attack. Whether Grol kills the dwarf will come down to a persuasion/intimidation check from the elf (DC 15, persuasion/intimidation: 7)
Grol auto-crits against Gundren twice, killing the dwarf. "King Grol bows to no other!"
Ash shoots an arrow at the elf (24 to hit, 12 piercing (+sneak), rolled in your character sheet)
The elf slams Badger twice (26 (crit!) & 20 to hit, 16 bludgeoning)
Kristofferson replaces the wood beam. "Well, now we know where they keep their own monster. Yeah, there's an owlbear in there. Looks to be held captive."

You again manage to avoid waking the owlbear.

Yes, it is Gundren, who is unconscious. You see no spider emblems or maps.

Rather than pull a weapon like a typical elf might, this elf steps up to Badger and simply attacks with her hands with surprising ferocity (13 & 9 to hit) but both harmlessly hit Badger's armor.

Badger just yells "Lies!" at the elf and swings his Sacred battleaxe at her (21 to hit, 7 slashing)
Grol looks confused and takes a step back against the wall, closer to the unconscious Gundren. This gives K an opportunity attack; does he take it?
Map:
K does not.
Grol kneels by the unconscious dwarf and pulls a dagger. "Stop, or I kill the dwarf." He readies two dagger attacks on the dwarf if there is any aggressive move against anyone by the three of you, which would be death to the dwarf.

Ash is up!
"Don't do this! We're here to save you!" Ash says in goblin. He readies a shortbow sneak attack on the elf if it attacks.
