Jayce waits for the unsuspecting swashbuckler to pass him and rises from the shadows. When the guard stops in surprise at the sight of Jayce's companions, the Cleric of Light charges S1 from his hiding spot and SHOVES S1 using his shield as a battering ram. I made a DEXTERITY (ACROBATICS) roll of (11,20)+2= 22 for a CRITICAL SUCCESS. S1 is shoved and flies thru the air into a PRONE position near the feet of the other party members. "Take him alive, if you can" instructs Jayce.

The next action that Jayce wanted to take after dealing with S1 was to put on his Hat of Disguise and copy the likeness of the swashbuckler we just defeated. After I am satisfied, I will stow my shield and mace and pick up the elf’s weapons and go to the door to keep watch, allowing the others to continue their work.
I will meet the guard as he approaches and tell him that I just checked the area and everything is fine. I rolled a 16 for PERSUASION and an 8 for DECEPTION.

Using a disguise, I'll give you advantage. Just one check, deception or persuasion. Depending on what you say. "These are not the droids you're looking for." is deception. "I'll check this room, you check the next." is persuasion.
Since I already got a decent roll on PERSUASION (16), I rolled again and got a 9. S1/Graelor nods to the guard and says, “I just checked the cargo area. Can you check the room on the right while I check the other one on the left?”

As dawn breaks, the four adventurers, Jayce, Maven, Dagget, and Guias, make their way back to Lord Aldric's residence, weary but triumphant. The night had been long and perilous, but their mission was a success. They gather in Lord Aldric's study, the first rays of morning light filtering through the tall windows, casting a warm glow on the polished wooden furniture.
Lord Aldric looks up from his desk, where he had been poring over maps and documents. His face lights up with a mix of relief and anticipation as he sees them enter. "Welcome back," he says, rising to greet them. "I trust your mission was successful?"
Jayce steps forward to deliver the report.
Maven congratulates the team, "It was a close call, but we managed to replace all the illegally stuffs with the fakes you provided."
Guias, added "Everything went according to plan. The Black Fangs will find nothing but worthless imitations, if they can even spot the fakes."
Lord Aldric's eyes shine with approval and a hint of pride. "You've done exceptionally well. This operation will indeed disrupt their plans and sow confusion within their ranks. The Black Fangs will have to reassess their strategy, buying us the time we need."
He gestures to a table set with food and drink. "Please, take a moment to rest and refresh yourselves. You've earned it. And once you've regained your strength, the next steps will be to infiltrate the ranks of Gideon Steele. He's a predominant member of the King's Council, like myself. Gideon is by far one of the wealthiest merchants in all of the kingdom. It's not just his wealth but he has power and influence and he is my senior."
Lord Aldric stands dramatically but pauses before he continues. "From here on out, you must not visit or check in with me, until your mission is complete. Infiltrate Steele's businesses and his operation. Find evidence linking him to this assassination plot and when you give the signal, the King's Council will back you up."
“We thank you, Lord Aldric”’ says Jayce. The group of 4 hungrily accept Aldric’s invitation to dine with him.
Jayce hands out the ioun stones- Intellect to Guias, Agility to Gralden, Strength to Maven, and Jayce keeps the Insight one.
((Questions: Does Aldric want the Wand of Scorching Ray, the Hat of Disguise, and the Bags of Holding back? I would like to keep at least one of the bags of holding, after it is emptied of the boat’s treasures))
Jayce tells Aldric that the party will get started in the morning after a LONG REST. “Where do you suggest we start with Gideon Steele?”

Gideon runs multiple businesses in and around the capital. His has three staff members who are closest to him:
Marianne Voss: Gideon Steele's personal assistant, very organized, always planning, seems to be privy to all of Gideon's schedules and maybe his secrets. Thom Redwood: A security chief, appears stern and vigilant, constantly scans crowds, dislikes inefficiency, and prefers direct communication. Eliza Harrow: A financial advisor, frequently uses magic sending stones to keep in touch with real-estate prospects, has a preference for upscale restaurants and art galleries. Handles assets, properties, wealth and art.

After resting at the inn, Brother Jayce has the opportunity to use deception and disguise kits (or the hat of disguise) to travel around town and locate the three persons of interest.
Marianne Voss is easy to find. She travels without bodyguards and frequents several locations throughout the city. If you approach her asking for work, she may say she is too busy for an interview. If you give her something she wants, she may change her mind about fitting you into her schedule.
Thom Redwood is also not difficult to find. He travels closely with Gideon himself and a squad of bodyguards. He will chat with anyone looking to join the ranks to become a bodyguard, interviewing and offering a test of strength and wisdom for potential candidates.
Eliza Harrow may be the easiest to find. She is constantly buying and selling property throughout the city. She will make time with you if you have property to sell or buy. Lord Aldric does have the money to buy some inexpensive buildings that Eliza may be selling but he also has some property that he doesn't mind parting with in the lower docks.
After resting at the inn, Jayce will shed all of his armor and weapons. He will wear his best vestments of the priesthood and keep his hat of disguise and his amulet of the devout, and bring 50 gp.
Next, I will search out for a dependable, discreet messenger to get a message to Lord Aldric. I will write a message, which I will then seal with my symbol of the investigator. The message will read, "Your humble servant is requesting a small, unique item from our recent transaction. It will be returned within a fortnight. Please give this messenger the rendezvous point and time. Signed, J".
I think my first target will be Eliza Harrow. I will hang out at some of the nicer art galleries and scan some of the nearby nice restaurants and try to locate her.
((Note: I have swapped spells and added LOCATE OBJECT))

The Sapphire Gallery is a pristine space, a true haven for art lovers and collectors alike. The walls are adorned with masterpieces from renowned artists across the realms, each piece carefully curated to evoke emotion and thought. The gallery's high ceilings and large windows allow natural light to flood the room, casting a soft glow over the elegant frames and sculptures. The air is filled with the faint scent of polished wood and fresh flowers, lending an almost ethereal atmosphere to the setting.
As Jayce enters the gallery, the soft murmur of conversations drifts through the air. Patrons, dressed in their finest attire, move gracefully from one piece of art to the next, their faces a mix of admiration and contemplation. Jayce blends into the crowd, his disguise impeccable, his priestly vestments giving him the appearance of a cultured man of faith appreciating the beauty of the world.
After a few moments of casually perusing the artwork, Jayce's eyes catch sight of Eliza Harrow. She stands near a striking oil painting of a serene, moonlit landscape, her back partially turned as she speaks with a well-dressed man. Eliza is every bit the image of sophistication and power, her tailored gown flowing elegantly as she gestures with one hand while the other holds a glass of fine wine.
Her dark hair is impeccably styled, and she exudes an air of confidence, the kind that comes from years of navigating the upper echelons of society and business. As she speaks, her voice is smooth and measured, betraying a sharp intellect that matches her keen eye for art and investment.
Jayce takes a moment to observe her, noting the small details—the way she occasionally glances at her surroundings as if always aware of who is watching, the subtle yet expensive jewelry that adorns her neck and wrists, and the way her eyes seem to appraise everything with a calculating precision.
It is in this moment that Eliza’s conversation partner excuses himself, leaving her alone for a brief moment.
