If Shalech knows where Croak and the others are, he will lead the skeletons their way. If Shalech doesn't know, he'll just keep leading them around trying to keep their attention and heading toward the outskirts of the town.
Croak and Urselles emerge from the fog, to see Nathan and Kizori come around Dar's tower, as Shalech leads the remaining three Skeletons towards you all.
(Unfortunately the spirit blade was unable to effect the fog.)
Shalech runs towards Croak, brandishing the magical sword and saying, "I found some lost puppies... I mean skellies. Want to play with them?" Shalech tosses the sword to Croak as he passes.
Nathan grabs the quarterstaff and hands Kizori the magical sword: "I think you'll have more use for this sword than I do" Then he heads towards the skeletons.
Nathan grabs the Staff of the Adder he found in Dar's tower, overcomes his fear of the undead, and attempts to hit one of the skeletons. He also signals Fluffy to attack the same creature from behind.
(Hope it is okay to bypass the remainder of the combat.) It isn't long before you take down the remaining skeletons as the fog fades. You stand in the middle of several fallen enemies, most of which are likely from the area.
The ground beneath the bodies has turned black and a film stretches over it; almost like long dried blood. It seems to signify the path these things had traveled, which appear to come from the direction of the Northwest mountains; which is also the direction of Kyristan's tower, according to the note to Surrisk.
Shalech breathes a sigh of relief and says, "Well, that was bad timing. If Surrisk had done that before we wasted ourselves trying to decipher those books, we could have helped. As it stands, I think we're lucky to come out as well as we did."
Looking to Urselles, Shalech continues, "Regardless of your efforts to help the people in this town, as long as the town is being accosted by Surrisk and Kyristan, your efforts will be wasted. We need to end their threat or abandon this town to its fate."
Looking at everyone, "Regardless, I do not want to face any more foes without any means to defend myself. I am going to return to Dar and get some rest."
Nathan is still breathing heavily: "Thank you everyone, I think we all did really well in this fight, including Fluffy" He pets his familiar, then turns to Shalech "I agree, I also need some rest, I am pretty useless without my spells. But before that happens, let me just quickly examine what exactly this trail is, in case it disappears over time."
Nathan tries to calm his breathing and pulse, and casts Detect Magic on the black path.
The path illuminates with strong necromantic magic. As you watch you see bugs crawling, trying to escape the area, getting stuck to the thicker and more liquid and wet blood like level below; hidden at first by the stretched dry level above.
The bones still laying upon the black bloody tainted ground shake and rattle a bit, bumping into each other; likely trying to reform, but lacking enough structure to do so.
Suddenly the Mayor's door slams open; "What in the world in this racket!" He yells out, a sleep mask half covering his eyes.
(The energy is not fading, the blackened ground seems like it isn't going anywhere.)
"Undead creatures? Now, now, I said I'd talk to you lot come morning; no need start a ruckus to get my atten..." He got cut off as one foot slams into a piece of wall debris from Han's place; his other foot stepping deep into the tainted ground, ruining his fuzzy slippers. The look of disgust on his face is both obscene and hilarious; as his pompous nature gets cut off.
Shalech points to a skeleton arm nearby, "Careful not to get too close. Can't hurt you much anymore, but if it grips your foot, it'll be a pain to get it to release."

(Finally free from the holiday.)
(Sweet. I'll just follow Nathan for now, until prompted.)

(Nathan, I forgot that both the staff and sword had been grabbed by others already, my apologies for the confusion.)
(So, what is Nathan doing instead, since Kizori already has the staff and Shalech is currently holding the sword?)
Nathan grabs the Staff of the Adder he found in Dar's tower, overcomes his fear of the undead, and attempts to hit one of the skeletons. He also signals Fluffy to attack the same creature from behind.

"Sir, the town was attacked by a group of undead creatures! We have managed to defeat them, but Han was hurt."
Is the necromantic energy fading? Does it seem like it will be there and we will be able to follow it after we take a rest?
