Seeing the guards start to prepare the gate to close, Oscen bursts into a sprint. As he runs, his mind goes back to where it was in the dream. He feels his mind recall the people there, it momentarily returning to him. The next thing he knew, he calls out to the guard, saying “Hold the gate!” in a voice that wasn’t his own. Below him, his appearance had changed, looking as if he was some kind of wealthy merchant from Weddingreen. Any panic, fear, or concern for the moment was not there, instead focused on getting inside the gate and getting the dirt they need.
The skin boils... The Roseate Amendment has been invoked...
An Invocation! The Roseate Amendment - Oscen is disguised!
Oscen feels something... push out of his skin, but doesn't quite understand what has happened until he raises a previously bare hand, only to see a sausage-fingered slab clad in an elegant silk glove. He does not pause, however, and the guards turn. Seeing him, their expression changes from mild annoyance to surprise, and some hard expression. Not something accusatory, as Oscen is used to, almost the opposite. Gradually, he comes to realize it as what it is: obedience.
"Sir." They begin to push the gate back open, but one of them turns and looks at Lian, shabbily dressed as they are.
"Is this one...?"
It is...Evening, Monday, 6th of Augensrain, 1847at...Weddingreen Gate 6, Olcro District, Atrament, the Empire.
Oscen feels a mixture of surprise and shock as he feels the change go on, it literally making his skin crawl at the sensation. Seeing their obedience towards him, he looks back to Lian, saying to the guards, "This one is with me. A bit of a diamond in the rough if you will. I intend to clean them up a bit and then have them assist me in my duties. Any additional questions?"
The guards share a brief glance, then move to let the two of you pass through the gate.
Under lamplight, the beauty of Weddingreen cannot be fully appreciated, but Oscen still spots trellises wreathed with twisting vines, little gardens beside each porch, pots suspended from overhangs and below windowsills. This is a verdant place, as for whatever reason each resident of the district is required to have some garden or another. The options here, in terms of stealing dirt, are many. Getting enough, however, may be tougher. Oscen narrows down his options:
- One of Weddingreen's many public parks. Perhaps less high quality, but passable, and plentiful. - An alley-garden in a modest home, well-tended and out of the way, but would likely be missed. - A greenhouse-manse's front lawn, as high-quality as it comes (outside of the soil in the mansion itself, but to steal that would likely be suicide) but harder to access, with greater consequences for failure.

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Oscen scratches at his chin, feeling a bit weird that he felt his own chin being a bit different than his own. He looks back to Lian, trying to whisper in his normal voice versus whatever voice it was that he had now. "Tell me. Do you know of any groundskeeper that might work for one of the mansions or know when they are around? Perhaps one of them might be able to help us get the best dirt we can get to help the plant grow. If not, then we might need some idea of how to slip around the watchful eyes on what we are doing."
Fate spins... 12 of 18 mysteries unraveled... Fate frowns.
Lian frowns. "Sorry. Don't really work around this area. This is all unfamiliar to me, I think we should just grab whatever we can and go. I don't know why this place has a curfew, but I'm not eager to get arrested for it."
It is...Evening, Monday, 6th of Augensrain, 1847at...Maple Street, Weddingreen District, Atrament, the Empire.
Lian stands watch while Oscen finds a patch of earth that will probably not be missed. Over the course of the next half an hour or so, he scrapes dirt into the bag, making sure that he's not digging any particularly obvious giant holes. There's only one near miss where a constable wanders into the park to water the bushes, and Oscen has to plaster himself against the side of a tree. Luckily, in the dark it's hard to tell the difference between a dirty bag and the dirt itself, so the discarded sack remains unnoticed.
A Discovery! +Bag of Decent-Quality Soil
With the sack of earth obtained, Lian and Oscen are free to return to the Rote. Unfortunately, there is a large gate blocking their way, and Oscen finds it unlikely that the guards will let them past while dragging a sack full of dirt, noble disguise or no. Some other way around will have to be found.
What do you do?

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Oscen thinks for a moment, seeing the gate in the way. Another idea comes to him, recalling how he felt during the entire dance sequence from the dream the night before. "Do you think if the guards weren't there, we could get through the gate pretty easily?" he asks, waiting for Lian's response. If Lian's response was a positive one, then Oscen would step forward, speaking in a soft tone as he tried to whisper out a melody that would make the guards fall asleep.
(If Lian does say we could get through, then I'm casting Sleep on the guards around the gate)
Oscen nods. “I don’t know if I can hurt anyone with what I can do. But…I think I’m starting to understand this better. I…I think I can put them to sleep for a short time,” he explained, looking back to Lian. “If we can open the gate without much effort, then we can knock them out and go.”
Oscen nods, taking a deep breath as he stopped for a moment and focused. He breathed in and out a few times before sucking in a good bit of air, then pushed the air outwards as a magical cloud in sleep laced dust.
(Cast Sleep on the guards (assuming there are two).)
A tongue itches... The Somnolent Invitation has been invoked...
Eyelids tremble... 18 out of 18 heartbeats matched... eyelids fall! Eyelids tremble... 9 out of 9 heartbeats matched... eyelids fall!
An Invocation! The Somnolent Invitation - Guards 1 and 2 are unconscious!
One guard yawns. Then the other. Then the first again. The second stretches, and leans against the gate, falling fast asleep. The second looks over at his comrade, and the motion sends him spiraling into the ground, snoring loudly.
Lian looks at Oscen with a mix of fear, fascination, and something else, as they witness the pollen-like dust emerging from his throat.
"...Great. I'm not going to think about that right now. Let's just get the keys and get out."
The key-ring can be found on one of the guards' belts, and the gate opens easily enough. Lian drags the bag of soil through, then motions Oscen to help.
Is Oscen keeping the keys, or putting them back on the guard's belt? Also, is he going to take anything else?

Lian looks more than concerned at Oscen. It appears that they have a very different idea of "not there" than Oscen does in the moment.
"I don't know what the hell you're capable of, but don't hurt anyone."
