Togar turns toward Mother Anachain and clucks at the degree of rudeness, taken aback slightly. He turns to Kulloda and says, "You may be right. Let's find out." He arches his voice slightly, speaking from further back saying "*Ahem* Ah, you wouldn't happen to be Mayor Windrider, would you? We wish to speak to the Mayor..."

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
The woman glowers at Mother Anachain, you swear steam is coming from her ears. "The audacity of some people." Physically putting herself between Anachain and the rest, with her back to the disagreeable individual, she gives a curt nod to Togar, anger still coursing through her veins.
"Yes, that I am. Is there something you need?" her earlier attempt at a calmer demeanor completely dissolved.
"Ha. Anachain anger mayor," Kulloda says, happy with how this is going. He opens his mouth to say more but then realizes he wasn't really paying attention to why they were here in the first place and lets Togar continue.
Having already turned her back on the woman, Anachain doesn't notice glower or steam. She does overhear the woman though and cannot help a smile from forming upon her lips. "She always like that?" she stage whispers to Percival and gives him a knowing look of how it must be to deal with such a Karen as a boss...
Percival gives a quick glance at the mayor, sees that her back is turned to them, and nods vigorously to Mother Anachain's question. Sweat has popped up on his forehead and he quickly wipes it away with the sleeve of his uniform.
Arthur comes meandering back from behind the Keep, obviously dealing with the front of his pants, but when he sees who all is gathered at the front, he quickly lowers the front of his tunic and quickens his pace. Securing himself in his post, he nods to the mayor, "Ma'am" She glares at him, "I'll deal with you later." then returns her attention to Kulloda, Togar and Drip, waiting for a response.
Kulloda looks from the mayor to Togar and then Drip. He assumes Drip will be of little help unless they want to get a free meal, so nudges Togar by pushing the wizard forward to explain what they're doing there.
He then sizes up Arthur to see what kind of guard he might be and whether Percival and Arthur could really defend the mayor and the town hall if they had to (Insight - to see how capable they look beyond the wimps he's taking them to be - 16+1 = 17)
Togar feels the nudge from Kulloda and his feathers are ruffled, just for a moment and he pauses to rub them down, comb through his small topknot and then looks at the Mayor, saying "Well, a couple of people have said that you are the person to talk to. We hear that you've had trouble on the roads around here, bad characters and so forth, perhaps those looking to make some easy money and not too concerned about how they do it? We may ah, be able to give you some help. Maybe. We'd like to hear about it straight from you. Dimia brought us into town, she told us to mention her name, and Cassie at the inn also said to drop her name as well. I don't like to drop names, unless absolutely necessary. We are a group with undeniable talent, so it is indeed not necessary, but at least that might unruffle some feathers, perhaps." Togar glances over at Anachain as he says this, then turns back to the mayor. "We have other tasks that we are working on, traveling onward, but if you needed our help, perhaps for a favor, some information, some coin perhaps? We were under the impression that you might need a little more... manpower." Togar reaches over and gives Kulloda's bountiful bicep a little squeeze as he says this last, then faces the mayor again and clucks his beak open and closed, awaiting her response. If she takes too long, he will continue to part the feathers on his head, getting them settled down, and then reaching into his pack, he feels for his helm, getting ready to put it on.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Anachain tries to subtly encourage the guards to take a step or two away from the mayor and the group in hopes of conversing with them a bit in hushed tones. "She that much a piece of work to deal with?" she asks them as quietly as possible. "We're looking for some temp work, you know freelance hired gun type stuff... But it seems like she may not be worth the coin we might make...?"
The two guards look at Mother Anachain like she is crazy trying to take them away from their posts when the mayor is right there. And on top of that trying to get them to speak badly about her, even if it is true at times. Instead they stay their post and try not to make eye contact with the intense woman, hoping she goes away.
"Don't like to name drop eh? Yeah.. I can see that. Well come in, come in because you're right. We are having some issues on the roads coming into town. They are odd, that's for sure." She heads back into the keep and leads them down a hall going in the first open door on the left. Inside you find a decent sized room with dark wood paneling, large mahogany desk and a small fire burning on the other side from the desk. I couple of dark red velvet chairs are facing the desk and a large red velvet couch against the wall opposite the door. Another couple of matching chairs face the fire.
The mayor waves her hand towards the room as she walks to her obviously familiar spot behind the desk, "Please, make yourself comfortable." Once you all do and she takes a seat, she sets her elbows on the desk, folds one hand over the other and rests her chin upon the folded hands. "So, tell me what you have heard."
Anachain doesn't push. She smiles a thanks for what was said already and backs off. She doesn't want to step in on the conversation the others are having with the mayor in fear of upsetting whatever rapport they have going so she wonders off about fifteen feet and just surveys the area like any bored tourist. Myrth, however, flies over invisibly and hovers above the groups head so Anachain can hear the conversation that way... As the group heads into the Keep Anachain waves the others to go but continues to have her familiar stay close to the others.
Kulloda doesn't hesitate and takes a chair by the fire and stretches as he lets the heat warm his muscles.
"We're passing through. Heard you have trouble. Heard reward for help so we come here," Kulloda says.
If he was honest with himself he couldn't actually remember what they had heard but these small towns were all the same and the mayor's were always dealing with trouble that was too much for them to handle.
Drip flops onto the velvet couch like he’s at home on the beach, legs sprawled and arms draped over the cushions. He takes in the room, nose wrinkling slightly at the fancy wood and firelight ambiance. “Pretty swanky setup you got here, dude. Real posh. Missing a hammock, though.”
Leaning back with his arms behind his head, he adds, “So, what’s the scoop, mayor dude? Highway shenanigans? Angry land plants? Whatever it is, we’re the crew to handle it—well, mostly for fun, but, like, we’re good at it.” He smirks, clearly pleased with his relaxed pitch.
“There was word that there was so much danger on the road, that the traders weren’t coming in. Or, could it be by water, perhaps? Pirates, or bandits? Arrrrrggggghhhh! Click click click!” Togar tilts his head back and forth, eyes blinking.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"Trouble. Yes you could say that." She sighs, then decides that she's too agitated to sit and stands up to start pacing. "So, you're the crew that can handle it eh? Well, to be honest we're not sure what all is going on. Pirates? Oh geez... I sure hope not."
She pauses, sets her palms on the desk and leans forward. "Basically travel from the south, west and over the bridge has slowed to a trickle and we do not know why. Even though we are on a river, we're too high above for any trade that way, so we're pretty much landlocked and with these routes shut down, well, it is not good for Rivermark. If you go in some of the shops or the markets, you'll see the selection is starting to dwindle, we're starting to notice and I fear we're going to really feel it and we have no idea what is going on. If they are all related or not!"
Realizing she is letting the stress of the situation take over her speech and not diplomacy for these people she just met, she stops herself short and takes a seat again. "I apologize. Why are you asking? Did you say for money? Yes.. if you can solve these problems, I am sure a reward will be coming your way."
Rather than stand around dopily with the guards, Anachain looks around and picks out a nice tree with some shade. Wandering over to it she sits herself down with her back to it and closes her eyes, seemingly just enjoying the great outdoors while waiting for the others to return. In truth she has sent her senses into her familiar, Myrth, which has followed the team into the mayors office, quite invisibly, and is watching and listening to everything.
Togar says to the mayor "Travel has slowed to a trickle you say, but not stopped. In those few that trickle through, have you questioned them? What had they observed, did they give any reason for the slow travel or any sign they saw of bandits, pirates, or whatnot?" Togar swings his head around to look at everyone, then swivels back to the mayor saying, "Yes, for coin, that would do nicely. A reward sounds good I'm sure to my companions. As for me, I would like information... or stories. Anything you may have heard, to one who likes to collect stories, odds and ends, history." Togar makes his version of a smile to the mayor. "Ever hear of the Pearl of Aeloria, how it was stolen? Where it might be, or who might have stolen it? I'm making a collection of stories about it, just curious if you would have anything to contribute. Or about.... mermaids. Hmm? Or any of those folk who trickled through, do you have their names or where they live, so that we could talk to them?" Togar clicks his beak together a few times and waits for a reply.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Kulloda was ready to take whatever coin was on offer in exchange for going off to kill bandits but he settles back down when Togar starts asking about the Pearl. He's still not convinced the old lighthouse keeper didn't just steal it himself and sell it but they might as well find out what the mayor knows before heading off.
The mayor thinks a bit on what Togar says, obviously trying to weed out all the questions from these newcomers. "Well, trickle in yes. I mean you're here, right? And no, not every traveler than comes into town do I get the fortune to get to know. Most do not visit the Keep and though I see faces around I do not recognize, I'm a busy woman and don't introduce myself to everyone I see in the market."
"Which direction did you all come from? There are rumors of possible bandits on the road South out of town. As for the other directions, I'm not really sure. I've heard invisible creatures to the West and as for the bridge...I don't even know if it is usable anymore? I haven't heard of anyone using it in almost 6 months!" She then scrunches up her face a bit, "A pearl of Eldershore? No... can't say I have. I have heard of mermaids, hasn't everyone? Don't they mainly reside in Taligbar? But man, I've heard bards sing of their beauty.. but also of their danger. What do you want with them?"
