“I can’t tell them from their robes, Valji. Tell me if you see any sign of Darvin.” At the very least a fight will be evident from this height. Making a second pass, Skiaceq scans for a cave or opening in the rear cliff face. All the while, he keeps a sharp eye on the party’s reconvention spot, making note of anyone who passes near it.

Exuberant, the gnome holds his arms out and looks all around, soaking in the pure joy of the sensation of flying. Of course, he is not paying attention to the camp or even what Skiaceq is saying!
"Well, you better hurry up! There's probably not much food left!" the guard says, gesturing further into the camp. Having taken a moment to look around, Darvin sees that the tents around him, decorated with the skulls of various beasts and an inordinate number of gnomes, seem to contain mostly kobolds, who skitter to and fro busily. Ahead in the direction (area 2), more of the human cultists can be seen, many gathered near a large tent.
Skiaceq manages to catch sight of a single human cultist among the kobolds at the entrance, heading towards what appears to be the mess tent. (If you want to continue to watch, make a stealth check, DC 12 to continue unobserved. You can take advantage in exchange for disadvantage on further perception checks if you'd like to maintain a good distance)
(Sorry for leaving Darvin hanging like that. Hope yall had a nice weekend!)
After squinting carefully, Skiaceq decides he couldn’t distinguish any two humans from this distance regardless. “Valji,” he says pointing, “that one there. Could that be him?”
He flies a little closer than he’s comfortable with, hoping to give his companion a clearer vantage, but not so close that the gnome will stand out. He shudders at the thought of so many archers, then pushes out the image.

Valji tries to gather his wits and focus on the business at hand - namely, keeping an eye out for Darvin so that he and the bird-man can swoop in to his rescue if needed!
Staying close to the mountains on either side of the encampment, Skiaceq manages to stealthily angle his way closer to the camp until the individual cultists pop into his vision. Valji keeps an eye out, checking each cultist making their way in the right direction to see it its Darvin.
Valji can go ahead and make that Perception check with advantage, since Skiaceq is helping. Make a DC 13 Investigation check to find Darvin. Perception 15+ for advantage, 7-10 for disadvantage.
Darvin approaches the food tent, and the smell of roast quail wafts to his nose. Several cultists are mulling about, grouped in small, loose groups. Leaning on the sturdy side of the tent, a mercenary seems to have started his evening too early, waving around his flask of strong liquor and complaining to any who pass about how the pay was good enough for as much loot as they gathered. Another mercenary passing by tells him to lay off before heading into the tent. As Darvin approaches the mouth of the tent, a female cultist leads a dragonborn mercenary out by the hand, leading the lucky fellow off in a hurry towards some of the smaller tents. The sounds of badly performed music, awkwardly accompanied by cittern and lute, comes from the main tent, songs of dragons reigning down death upon the weak.
OoC: Would the top of the tent be visible from the guard towers? If so, redact the bit about the gem below.
Darvin cringes inwardly at the music, having half a mind to go show this group how a real musician plays (but fortunately the other half of his mind wins out). As he heads into the tent he reaches into a pouch to grab a bit of fleece and performs a subtle gesture behind his back, causing a five foot wide image of a shiny gem to appear on the top of the tent. He heads toward the food table to get a bit of the quail and some sort of alcoholic beverage, and then heads toward the drunk mercenary to see whether he can extract any useful information from the loose-lipped man.
"You know, I hear there's a whole nest of dragon eggs getting ready to hatch near here," Darvin says, adding a bit of a slur to his own speech. "Have you heard? They've been trying to keep it under wraps but a few of us overheard the higher ups discussing it. The pay may not have been much so far, but when they hatch we'll be able to take whatever we want from whoever we want."

"Dragon eggs.... dragon eggs..." the man slurs, "I'd love me some dragon omelets!" he yells, drawing some angry stares from local cultists, who quickly go back to their business. "I've heard nothing *hic* but maybe that's why they won't let us into that cave. Better hatch quick, though! We move out in the morning."
Valji disadvantage: 15
Valji had just about given up on finding Darvin when the little gnome noticed the telltale magical shimmer of his disguise in the distance, shortly away from a tent with a large... green gem of some sort on the top.
"You think they might be in the cave, huh? That makes sense... I'd think they'd have it better guarded though, don't you think?" Darvi replies through a mouthful of quail meat.
"Ah... who's crazy enough to come through this camp? *hic* Besides, I wouldn't want to take on those damnable kobold ankle biters in their home territory. The cave is swarming with them!" As he says this last bit, the drunkard gestures into the distance, past another set of tents to where the cave presumably lies.

"Ugh, I'm with ya there," Darvin replies, raising his mug toward the man and then taking a swig. Then, taking his leave of the man he steps outside the big tent in the direction of the small tent where he saw the dragonborn man and the cultist woman go. As he steps outside, he lifts his mug to his mouth, tilting back his head to finish it off, while scanning the skies for an aarakocra.
Along the side of the camp, laying low in the mountains, Darvin sees a giant eagle catching a meal of a gnome. A quick double take later, he recognizes Skiaceq and Valji, well camouflaged and apparently tracking him.
Walking in the direction that the drunkard had pointed leads past the tent the cultist and dragonborn had headed towards. From inside comes the sound of giggling.
Darvin smiles to himself as he hears the sound of a dragonborn giggling. He continues on in the indicated direction, keeping an eye out for a cave mouth and for anyone standing guard.
I'm glad you ignored the couple. I mean, five minutes ago it wouldnt have been an issue, but... XD
Heading further in that direction, Darvin passes a large, well guarded tent which presumably belongs to the camps leadership. The cave ahead looks not as well guarded, but is buzzing with kobold activity. They don't appear to be taking any notice of him, being used to cultist sightseers.

OoC: No worries; it probably felt like a few days to Darvin anyway, so you're really just making it more immersive...
Darvin heads toward the large tent, doing his best to avoid potential conversation on the way, within the bounds of acting "natural".

Interesting point. No; it's too far back at the end of the valley. Skiaceq and Valji have seen it, but Darvin has not.
OoC: I don't suppose the guy gestured toward it either when he mentioned it...
