The party continues its onslaught, though weakened from the disease-laden mouth, Dain still gets a hit in followed by Finn and Psalm. (Pain. Hunger. Pain.) the party hears in their heads as Sampson's flame hurls towards the beast and it crumples into a limp pile. (Want... food...) And then nothing else.
Finn felt himself regain a bit of healing as his patron's curse siphoned some of the dying creature's lifeforce to him. Satisfied that the thing had met an appropriate end, the pirate dismissed his blade and looked around the room. Eyeing the chests, he smiled, then headed over towards one, but stopped as he noticed his "chest-opening partner's" condition.
"You alright, mate?" he asked Dain, hoping that it either wasn't serious, or that someone in the party still had enough magic left to treat it if it was.
Psalm pokes the thing with his foot, smiling, "Well, there's something. I don't think I've ever killed one of these before...." Finally he looks up and asks, "So, where to now, chaps?"

Zylborin is able to eye over the creature. As he thinks about it, the eyes on a stalk, telepathy, gaping maw, and the smell of the room, remind him of what he's heard about creatures called Otyughs. They generally stalk dark places waiting for prey with a large appetite.
[[ In case any of you have more pre-known lore about Otyughs, fine by me if you use that. My take on metagame knowledge is that I don't see a reason to require people to pretend they don't know what they know. If you suspect a certain stat block is at play, please don't actively look it up. But also PBP takes a while and I understand if you need to look up a stat block for other reasons, such as if you're using it in another game you're DMing. ]]
“Gah, I’ll live. Think it might be infected or something, but it’s nothing that won’t heal, methinks,” he says to Finn and Zylborin, “Nicked me in the arm well, it did. I’m good to move though, thanks.”
The pirate easily dodged the oncoming tentacle, but then stopped. Seeing the creature bite Dain, his eyes suddenly went cold.
"You'll pay for that," Finn muttered through gritted teeth, the light-hearted nature of his prior quips gone as he spun into two more slashes.

"Oh, bother." Sighs Psalm as his arrow flies past the beast and takes Steady Aim on his next shot. "That was my second favorite arrow."
On the word "arrow" he releases the bow string...

"Fascinating, it reminds me of the Otyugh in Colban Furtescu's tale; Within The Sewers - An Adventure of Waste and Wonder."
Zylborin quickly jots down notes about the creature and a crude sketch with Dain and Finn wrapped in it's tentacles.
"Hey, don't make me look bad!" said Finn jokingly as he spotted Zylborin's sketch. "I dodged the tentacles!"

"Oh! I couldn't actually see in the room, I was going off the sounds I heard."
He quickly redraws the sketch, with Finn plunging a sword as big as he is, into the creature.
"Did we search those chests yet?"
(( Finn will go ahead and open the northernmost chest. ))
