As Iolinder see takes the potion, Vydar’s eyes stray back to the disturbing mural. As much as he doesn’t want to look at it, the feeling of its eyes on him causes him to look at it instinctively.
That dagger is definitely that things claw…
”Fine we can take a short rest, but I agree with Iolinder. We are not resting here.”
After everyone is ready to leave, Vydar leads the way out of the cavern.
Lev sighs, "No one's going to check that?"He jabs a thumb in the direction of the un-searched chest before standing up stiffly. "Whatever you all want to do, but we shouldn't leave any stone unturned."He thought that he could catch a break while everyone else searched, but it seems he'll have to wait on that. Forcing himself to move, he approaches the chest, waving a hand in front of his face in a futile attempt to keep from breathing in the dust.
He sticks the edge of his glaive under the lid of the chest, using the long pole as leverage to open it. It's probably overkill but right now he doesn't feel like risking a trap.
after Ning returns from eating the mushrooms, you give her a scratch behind her ears and notice that she has gills. (Likely the mushrooms provide water breathing)
As Lev opens the chest, he is relieved to hear no click, nothing explodes, nothing happens. It is untrapped.
Inside, he sees an assortment of coins (gold, silver platinum, copper, and gems, with an approximate value of 400 gold, although it is hardly worth taking the (1500 copper pieces, but you do have a cart?)
In addition, there is a very ugly and somewhat moldy-smelling robe. It seems to have been repaired multiple times, with a number of badly sewn-on patches on it. (Sort of like a quilt). Some of the patches Lev can make out are a dagger, lantern, and scroll. It also has some patches missing, but the fabric underneath is intact, making you wonder why the patches were sewn on to begin with. A strange robe indeed and for whatever reason, thought to have some value or would not have been placed in a chest for safe keeping.
(Any other actions prior to leaving Cache 1 for some fresh air and a rest? Once outside, you can also look at the maps better and develop a strategy for your next steps)
The silver-blue mushrooms under the mural that Ning ate
This mushroom can be found in rivers, lakes, and other waterways. It is small and silvery blue with white spots on its cap. When consumed Psathyrella Aquatica gives the ability to breathe underwater for 1d4 hours. Over consumption in humans can cause the consumer to grow gills behind their ears which damage hearing and affects perception.
Zarbyn will heed Amdaeng's mentioning of the mushrooms that might allow you to breathe underwater and will also collect some if there are any left.
"Do you think any of those other colored mushrooms might have beneficial properties?"

Lev pulls the ugly robe out with a skeptical look on his face. Shrugging, he sets it aside before scooping up the coins. A few coppers might not seem like much, but he's used to being frugal so he may as well take them since they do have a cart to put them in. Only problem will be getting them out... well, he does have help so maybe they can either carry the chest out or split up the coins amongst them.
Sighing, he pulls out as many of the gems and higher value coins as he can. Might as well take those to make sure they get taken. Then he'll ask the group if they want to bother with the coppers--it seems like the smart thing to do to him but everyone else seems to be in a hurry to get out of here.
Once that is done he walks over to Zarbyn and Vydar, holding out the ugly robe as he says, "Any idea what this is? It looks worthless but it has to hold some value considering it was stashed in that chest." He looks to the others as well when he says, "There's over a thousand copper coins in there too, might as well take them if we can get them into the cart. Might take two of us to carry the chest out though." It's amazing how heavy coins can be when you stick a couple hundred of them into one container.
He looks at the robe again, wondering why it was stashed and if it's even worth taking.
Investigation/Arcana (both are the same): 5
Unfortunately this kind of thing doesn't fall into his line of expertise.
Lev has no idea about the robe, maybe its used for spell-casting ceremonies or rituals or something. The group figures you can get a better look at it in the light of day.
(You can decide to harvest the black and blue mushrooms if you like as the group goes back outside and sets up for a short rest.) Can roll perception or investigation once outside, and study things you have found.
Amdaeng: with time, you can slowly train your bear to do things (animal handling).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zarbyn will help Lev gather the copper coins into the chest along with anything else that might be worth taking and carry it outside.
"Copper isn't worth much unless you have hundreds and hundreds of coins worth. It does no good lying in a cave."
Looking over the cloak of patches and examining the areas where there are missing ones Zarbyn tries to determine the reason why there would of been patches where none were needed.
Investigation: 17
"What do you make us this Vydar? I agree with Lev that if it was kept in the chest with other valuables it must have some worth." Zarbyn will defer to Vydar's expertise in this area, "Do you think it could hold magic of some kind?"

As the group rests and looks over the items (Let me know if you wanted to other shrooms), you clean up the robe. One of the patches is a bit loose and Vydar pulls it off while cleaning it up. The patch looks like a dagger. When it is pulled off, it turns into a real dagger instantly. Over the hour of rest, it remains a dagger. Thus, you decide to name it, a robe of useful items. These are the patches that remain.
Looking at the maps, it appears you have several routes you could take as you venture forward here. (also, I haven't seen a post from Dwar in a bit...hope they are still with us.) Cache 2 is located on top of the mountain across the valley. Probably would take 1/2 days travel to get there putting you there at sunset. Bypassing cache 2, you have 2 routes to cache 3.
Map one (blue route)
Take several days, safest, can take Charlie and the cart of supplies. Can visit cache 2 which is at the top of a peak or stay down in the lowlands, following the river around the ridge of mountains, up a pass, and to 3, 4 and 5. (Read Storms journal about 3)
Option 2: Green route
Try to traverse the mountain ridge for a more direct route to 3. Can still bypass 2 or visit it. Save 1 day of travel. Chance of avalanches and more difficult to camp. Can't bring the cart of supplies but charlie is still capable of going.
(?? Would he like to take the dagger out of his backpack?)
No, Iólinder would not take the dagger out into the open without just cause.
With everyone off inspecting the chest and its content, Iólinder took the moment to stretch his legs to get the blood flowing. The cold cavern floor was not conductive to a proper rest but before he got back up on his feet, he finally put the vial with red liquid to his lips and let it flow in. It tasted stale, as if it was food way past its expiration date, but it did the job. The pain that ached in his side subsided and even his shortness of breath went away. Iólinder rose to his feet and joined the others to see what they had found: coins, some more potions, some oddly coloured mushrooms and a musty old cloak that had seen better days judging from all the patches on it.
But it was the missing map they had retrieved that interested Iólinder most. With it they could pinpoint a more accurate route to follow. There was the safe route that looped around the mountains that still allowed them to visit the spot marked "cache 2" on the map but would take longer to travel. Or they could take the short route, one that also passed by cache 2 but cut straight across the mountain tops. Dangerous but it could save them valuable time.
'We have two options.' Iólinder said as he traced his finger on the maps to indicate the routes. 'We could either go around the mountain and go up the pass here.'He tapped the spot on the map. 'It's safer but it would take us longer. Or we could cut across the mountain tops here,'another tap, 'to reach the same destination. It's faster but more dangerous.'
He tapped a third spot on the map: the indicated cache 2. 'Both routes allow us to check out this place. But judging by that note the Coven of Eternal Winter left,'He gave a small roll of the eyes at the name, 'time is of the essence. My vote is to go across the mountain.'

"We have already lost out on one artifact and there are two different groups besides us looking for them. Iolinder's idea of going over the mountain could gain us a day."
Zarbyn glances at Charlie and the cart.
"We won't be able to take Charlie with us but there's little danger here now that both groups have either been dealt with or moved on. If we left Charlie here we could always come back this way afterwards to get him."
Zarbyn will go over to Charlie and use his Beast Speech invocation to comprehend and communicate with him and check to see if he can be convinced to wait here for them. (Perhaps this could count as the possible favor from the Speak with Animals spell?)

He says, though he's not sure that's what its actually called (even though it is) he sounds confident in his made up name as he hands it to Lev. He looks at Zarbyn and Iolinder. "Going over the mountain sounds good to me, but we are not leaving Charlie. He can make it, trust me."He pats the donkey's neck.
