"you are conflicted. That's normal.. look around you."
Iólinder waves a hand at the others in the room.
"Our allies take their turns at hearing fortunes because they seek truth...
A young man puts himself in danger trying to help his people even though he's chastised for his efforts when he returns...
Another young man asks others what they need... And when he gets no answer he asks another...
They all seek purpose."
Iólinder will then place his hands on Lev's shoulders.
"You didn't fail your brother. You did your best for him and that's all anyone can ask of another. Let it go. Remember him, learn from the event, but you were not the only one making decisions in that story."
Iólinder isn't certain how to make his point but tries anyway.
"You believed you had purpose, in protecting your brother, which is noble. With him gone you may feel your purpose is lost, like a part of you died with him. Or maybe you feel guilty for somehow surviving..."
Iólinder will slap Lev across the face then point at him sternly.
"And you carry that guilt with you each time you survive... Let. It. Go...
I can't tell you why Libra would bless you as she has, but I can tell you why you deserve the chance to live. You aren't hiding, you aren't sulking, you're putting yourself in danger for the benefit of others. You're still seeking purpose."
Iólinder tries to read Lev's emotions to see if he's ready to hear what he says next. (Insight 17)
"It sounds to me as though your brother... Failed you, not the other way around. You can recognize that and still love your brother. You may also strike at me if you wish, I won't stop you."
He'll wait a moment then, whether he is struck or not, when he can he will continue.
"You are strong, and willing to share that strength. Libra chose well...
Truth lies in balance: you cannot only focus on the pain, or the past, for joy and the present are just as important.
Power lies in restraint: the flood that destroys isn't powerful, it's out of control. The man who can destroy, but seeks to build, is powerful for he is in control...
Take control. Find purpose, even if that simply means focusing on one small thing you can effectively control at a time."
Jherak was present the night before and heard the mayor speak to the new visitors about finding a powerful wizard, Nicodemus in Port Blacksand. He mentioned a way to teleport there. If you can join them , it will allow you to gain more tools to face Shareela.
Amdaeng looks up at Iólinder coming out slightly from her pensive thoughts following the card reading, she looks over to the young man as if noticing him for the first time and the northerner beside him.
She flashes them both an encouraging grin and then spins back to give Ning more scratches.
" Honestly, Blacksand is a PIT from my understanding but I for one will be happy for a change of climate.....I'm not built for the cold...."
As Iolinder talks about purpose, Lev's frown returns. That's... not really how he'd thought about it. But perhaps that is the truth he subconsciously follows. Of course, there was also another purpose for him, one he hadn't let himself think about since to follow through would be suicide... but now... would it be?
His thoughts are interrupted when Iolinder slaps him in the face. Shocked, Lev feels a moment of anger rise in his chest. When he speaks his voice isn't loud but it does quiver a bit with rage, "How do you expect me to let go? He made some mistakes, but he was still my responsibility. Not only that but he was literally all I had left." He grits his teeth, clenching his fists. However he makes no move to strike back, instead forcing himself to be calm. Iolinder is trying to help... this just isn't really what Lev was expecting that help to look like.
Letting out a breath he listened to the rest of what the cleric had to say. He's not trying to hide his emotions so it's easy for Iolinder to determine that he's holding on to a lot of guilt, grief, regret, and anger towards whomever is responsible for what happened.
He stays silent for a long while after Iolinder finishes his piece. Finally he says, "As much as I'd like to hit something, I'm not going to hit you."He doesn't say anything about the cleric's comment on Knox failing Lev instead of the other way around. Lev disagreed with that. Knox was his responsibility and he failed to show him the right of things in time. That landed them both in deep water and only one of them was able to crawl out.
"I... appreciate your advice," he says sounding as if his mind is on something else. "I still don't feel like I understand any of this though."Perhaps that would be the way of it.
He looks to the fortune teller, frowning at the broken crystal ball on the floor. As always, it's easier to push his own thoughts and problems aside to deal with whatever is going on with the rest of the group rather than address them. "Perhaps it's time to end this conversation. Our comrades seem restless... and who was that man you were sitting with earlier?" His eyes go to Jherak, and then he realizes that Morric isn't with them. "And where is Morric? Did he decide to part ways with us?"
