"I say we go up, it beats maybe getting trapped underground."
Zarbyn looks up at the hatch to see how easy/hard it would be to access, then around the room for a stool, stoop, or ladder that... anything that might help.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
The ceiling is low (as goblins are shorter than humans). There is a latch tucked into the square opening. Lira did not see any traps. You may need someone to go on a knee, put out their hands together, and hoist you up.
(OOC: I am assuming the group takes the loot and magic item?)
Lira awkwardly stopped mid-climb, " Oh.....I was captured by Shareela once, and forced to do her bidding, just like these kobolds.......she's not a great boss....don't recommend.....little bit bitey."
" If your wondering whether to trust me or not that's up to you, But I think the others will vouch for me."
Zarbyn moves over to Amdaeng and takes a knee offering to help her up through the hatch next after Lira as already gone up, he looks back at the others, "Quickly, one after the other, we don't want to get separated."
Twiggy flies up through the hatch into the loft above and takes a quick look around at her new surroundings;
Perception: 9
and then relays back what she sees telepathically to Zarbyn, who also shares her senses so is also witnessing the same things Twiggy does.
"Hey, what's going on up here?"

Vydar examines the red crystal, wiping off the grime. It has a bit of a glow to it, and a strong magical aura. It is warm to the touch, almost hot. The chain is less warm, taking in some of the heat of the attached crystal.
Lira disarms the primitive trap to the hatch that leads down but does not yet open the hatch.
Amdaeng and Twiggy take a quick peak above.
Amdaeng pulls the hatched door, which opens to the room above. It is a stone chamber at street level, the building next to the Inn you stayed at. The air feels unnaturally still. It is cooler here, and dry, carrying the sharp tang of herbs, old metal, and the smell of embalming fluid.
Stone tables stand in rows across the room, each one smoothed by long use and slanted slightly. Shallow grooves run along their edges, leading to darkened channels in the floor that disappear beneath iron grates. Partially constructed wooden coffins are stacked against one wall.
Several of the tables are occupied by dead bodies.
AMdaeng regards the room above.......mortuary? It could very well just be a legit business.....she looked around for interior doors leading to an undertakers office or the like.............hopefully............
In the first room, Vydar notes that one of the bodies seems to have been tampered with. (Perception or investigation)
Pushing through a curtained door, You emerge from the mortuary proper into a quiet front office. Three desks face the exit, each piled with ledgers and ink pots, while shelves of urns and folded shrouds line the walls. A narrow door ahead opens back to the street. Paperwork has a letterhead, the name of the business,
“Gray And Sons”.
Amdaeng also notes it is very quiet outside on the street this morning. Very few people. Those you see out the window all seem to be heading east.
After examining the magical crystal (School of Abjuration) Vydar continues grimly to the body of the dead Kobold. The Kobold’s corpse tells a bleak but familiar story. The scales along its back have been peeled away in long strips, exposing grey, rotting muscle beneath. Its jaw hangs slack, several teeth smashed out, and the tongue is blackened and swollen, as if burned. Deep punctures line the arms and legs—probing wounds, inflicted not to kill, but to torment. Only the chest bears a clean, fatal stab. Vydar recognizes the precision. Myurr’s cult tortured this creature, then ended it when they were finished.
One of the bodies in the chamber above is missing its heart. The rib cage has been crudely and hurriedly cut open, the heart was severed and removed and no attempt was made to close the chest back up. This was done within the last hour.
Looking closer, some wet blood is on the ground near the body (human).
In the torture room of Myurr, a second square latch door also leads "down." Halbert or another can decide if it's worth taking a peak. (This neighborhood district is the furthest from the sea, and also sits on a slight hill, (Your about 30 feet above sea level).
Vydar takes a brief moment to look over the red crystal amulet, noting it's aura he then tucks it away into his pack. He'll investigate it more later. Setting his jaw, he then begins to examine the bodies. Just as he'd thought, the Kobold had been killed with one of those cursed black daggers. However he's even more unsettled when he finds the human who's heart was removed. Had this happened at the same time he'd had that vision? He unconsciously rubs a hand over his chest. When he'd tried to identify that dagger through magic... had he accidentally formed some kind of connection with them and these rituals? He pushes that thought away, and tries to cover it with another thought. Why did they take this man's heart?
He tries to figure out what they might need a heart for.
Arcana: 20 History?: 7
He hangs back while Amdaeng climbs up the top half, and watches Lira disarm the hatch leading downward. He doesn't think it's a good idea to split up, but he's also unsure if the others plan to investigate the area much farther. Part of him wants to get out of this place as soon as possible, but the other part feels obligated to press onward... after all there could be prisoners somewhere who are waiting to meet the same fate as the dead in this room.

Amdaeng began reading through the paperwork her mind wondering whether ' Gray and Sons' was a front or just had the goblins move into their basement and threaten or kill the owners.
Looking over the paperwork, there are many completed orders for coffins, cremations, and ways to prepare bodies. It appears that the company has a small amount of unidentified bodies being sold. Some to kitchens, some to magic guilds, and a line item labeled, C.O.D.K. That catches her eye.
Halbert forces himself not to vomit in the torture chamber
Since they all seem navigated adventurers (and he is also quite sure they know at least something about the whole situation), he lets the others di the investigation.
were any of you expecting any of this? what are we dealing with?
Lira pulls the hatch open and is immediately greeted by the smell of sewage. A ladder decends about 10 feet to a damp floor below. Written on the wall in thieves chant:
Below lies the dead city of Carsepolis and the thieves highway.
History buffs would know that long before Port Blacksand was an ancient city named Carsepolis. It was destroyed in the final battle in the War of the Wizards. Blacksand was built on top of the ruins.
Lira knows that the thieves guild and assassins use the sewer tunnels and hidden rooms to move unseen. Smugglers hide contraband here, hidnappers keep their victims. There are also rumors of ancient hidden treasures and of creatures not seen on the surface. There are also well known stories of a clan of Fish Men who inhabit the hidden city. Other rumors say the tunnels were built by the palace as a way to escape a siege.
Zarbyn leans back when Lira opens the hatch and waves his hand back and forth in front of his face to help disperse the awful smell of sewage that confronts them all.
"Should we be splitting up? That doesn't seem like a very good course of action under the circumstances."
Zarbyn moves away from the hatch, edging toward the exit from this room.
"And shouldn't we wait until after our meeting with the Serpent Queen before we go traipsing through the sewers? We know where the entrance is, after the meeting we can prepare, supplies, planning, and what not... what do you think?"

Lira chewed on her lip then decided to disarm the lower trapdoor anyway, in case they needed it in future, Amdaeng assisted.
