"Come on, Flowerflash, we can still make it! Show them what you're made of!"Chase exclaims. But her snail seems to be getting tired, slowing down more and more ... almost like a normal snail.
At first, Chase feels a bit frustrated, but then she decides that since they're probably going to lose the race, she might as well enjoy the ride. The orange tabaxi gently taps Flowerflash’s head and says, "It's okay, big boy. Let's at least cheer for our friends, yes?"
Standing up slightly in her stirrups, she yells, "Come on, Shellymoo! Breakneck! Queen's Majesty! Go for it!"
Scratch whoops again, loving the speed of these giant snails. When he hears his twin holler encouragingly, he turns to see her snail lagging behind slightly. He frowns, but then smiles and waves back. "Come on, sis! You can catch up!" Leaning in toward Queen's Majesty's head, he says more quietly, "But we're still going to win." Sitting up, he calls, "Let's go, your majesty!"
Lex feels a rush of excitement as Breakneck surges through the gap into second. Moving at what he would never have considered a snail’s pace, the enormous mollusk seems spurred on by the string of syllables Lex continues to shout.
Chaseis relaxed. She no longer expects to win the race—only to have fun with her snail and watch one of her friends take the victory. It looks like Lexis going to have that honor! She watches ahead, curious if he and Breakneckwill keep their lead or if Illuwenor Scratch will surpass them.
Illuwenwatches as Lexand Breakneckfly past him. He's a little worried that Shellymoomay have worn herself out with her fast start. Nonetheless, he continues urging her forward.
Lex leans in, his light gnomish form perhaps lending some advantage, feeling the words of his teachers come flowing to him as he continues to shout to Breakneck, encouraging the giant snail not to give up as they move into the backstretch.
As the race nears its end, Flowerflash seems to awaken, surging forward with a final burst of energy. But it's too late, Chase can already see the other snails’ trailing tails rather than their swaying antlers. With a grin, she leans in, giving her mount an encouraging pat.
"Come on, Flowerflash! If we're going to lose, let's at least make it a spectacle! Gotta make the crowd cheer!"
And as they cross the finish line — and not before, so they don't get disqualified for using magic— Chase raises a hand, summoning a cascade of multicolored petals that swirl and dance in their wake. A final, flowery flourish in honor of her valiant steed!
Lex glances back under his elbow and sees Shellymoo right on the tail of his mount. He whips his head back forward and clicks a few times at Breakneck, urging the mollusk to keep up the pace through the finish line.
Scratch smiles, seeing that his sister is having a good time, even if her snail isn't the fastest. He decides there's no reason for him to give up. If she's having a good time, he should have a good time, too!
He leans forward again and encourages his snail. "Alright, Queenie! We're almost to the finish line. Let's go!"
As Illuwenwatches Breakneckpull further ahead, he decides to try singing to Shellymooagain, hoping it will inspire her like it seemed to at the start of the race. Unfortunately, his mind draws a blank trying to recall the second verse to Wind in Our Sails!

Lex sits up in his stirrups, though it hardly made a difference given his small stature. He gives out a whoop as they cross the finish line, proud of the Breakneck’s speed and endurance, and exhilarated by the connection he felt he had formed with the creature.
Scratch is leaning forward so far, it looks like he may topple forward off of his snail. He is almost laughing, he is so giddy. Lex is a lost cause, but he's still got a chance at second if he can get ahead of Breakneck and stay ahead of Illuwen. "Come on, Queenie! Come on —" And then he DOES almost fall forward off of his snail. The tabaxi wobbles, sitting back hard on top of Queen's Majesty.
