Kaelen's eyes widen slightly as Bert falls to the ground and the zombies make a meal of him. A cold, unfamiliar sensation grips Kaelen, twisting in his chest.
The whispers of his Queen echo in his mind, and Kaelen murmurs them softly under his breath. “We are...the space between life and death. Protect the balance.”
With this newfound understanding, something changes within Kaelen. Power surges through him, not just to guide the dead but to protect the living from premature death. He feels a connection to the grave, not as an end, but as a boundary.
Drawing his shortbow, he looses an arrow at zombie F. (To hit: 8, Damage: 7 + 1 sneak attack.) Reaching out with the new power within him, he casts Sanctuary on Squall.
Malachite catches his breath after the last zombie falls and the scene grows quiet. He looks at each member of the group in turn, leaning on his shadowy trident. "So... Uh... Thanks, and condolences about your companion. You're... Not here to take me back to Melvaunt, right?"
"That's valid." He looks across the group once again to make sure no one is carrying manacles or the like before continuing. "I'm Malachite. My ship sank on the way to Neverwinter and I somehow managed to float ashore here, and just as I was getting my bearings the undead started stirring." He pokes one with the trident to make sure it's really dead. "And the rest you saw yourself."
We were traveling to this island when we were attacked by sea creatures. Once we landed we made inland and ran into you. I am Squall, a traveling monk.
"It is...unfortunate," Kaelen remarks about Bert as he stands, turning his attention to Malachite, "But also fortunate for you to survive. I am Kaelen and I'm also not here to capture you."
"Well, that's a relief. I was heading to the north for a new life, but right now..." The drow looks up towards the island, then back to the others. "Something in the back of my mind's telling me I've got something I need to do here. What brought you all to this remote place?"
Koya dislodges their greatsword from the zombie's body at last noticing Bert. They stare for a moment, unsettled by the sudden loss, then pivot suddenly to begin cleaning the gore off of their family's sword. They eye the newcomer, still put off, but will answer the drow's question, "You may call me Koya. My family, House Balrin, is sworn to protect this island," they glance once more at Bert's body, "I had not realized the state it was left in."

Few moments later Herbert has recollected himself and his jolly personality is back: "Ah hey there! My name is Herbert, Herbert Greenthumb. I too investigate this island, but for my book. World must know about this place and I am gonna tell this story!"
After that Herb goes to the lifeless body of Bert. "Ah my jolly friend, we need to send you off good and propper!". Herbert then gets on his knees and opens his spellbook. He uses prestidigitation to clean off any blood and zombie gunk. After that he uses mending to mend his armor and clothes so he looks pristine. "Ah, done. So do we leave him here or dig a proper grave? I have a spell I use for archeological digs, but I could use it to dig a grave as well." (OOC Mold earth if we burry him here)

Finally, after much effort, the Koya's greatsword finally finds grip in the zombie's flesh, cleaving it in half at the waist.

Herbert, you're up.

Seeing that his catapult spell was effective and zombies are finally falling Herbert joyfully yells: "WE'RE WINNING!"
After that he scans for first decent size rock and flings it towards Zombie A (if I read correctly)

Kaelen sighs and stows his bow, kneeling to study Zombie A (the one that was harder to kill for some reason). Perception: 7
