Kaelen returns to Herbert’s side and attempts to stabilize him. His hands work with focus, and while his efforts aren't perfect, he manages to slow the bleeding. Herbert’s condition stabilizes, though he remains unconscious.
Kaelen lets out a quiet breath, knowing he’s done what he can for now. Herbert will need more help, but at least his life isn't in immediate danger anymore.

Koya slowly comes back to consciousness, gathering both their greatsword and their thoughts, then shoving the latter to the back of their mind to sort through after the post battle chaos is handled. They will move to Bert and attempt to stabilize him.

Investigation: 22
You both find nothing concerning the attack, but you are able (if you want to) to remove their Leather armor. If you do so, you may add it to your inventory.
"Nothing much." The Captain strides towards you. "After you passed out, we just finished dealing with these filthy fish-men. I mean..." he pauses for a moment, breath shaky in sorrow. "They killed our Ted." A single tear streaks down his face.

Kaelen tilts his head before removing the armor from the deceased Merrow. Perhaps when he Trances next he can borrow knowledge from the Shadar-kai's collective memory to use it somehow.
I'm gonna go into your inventory and rename that armor Merrowic Leather. That just means it sells for more. Also, as it's leather made for underwater usage, it doesn't get damaged by prolonged water exposure.
At the captain's words Koya stands from their position next to Bert and approaches the sailor, searching for the right words. "I am— truly sorry for your loss. Are such monsters common on this voyage?"

"All too common. It's a shame we won't be able to retrieve it's body. Although it's floating right there, we don't have anyone who'd be willing to retrieve it. His family and I'd be in debt to whoever'd do that for me."
If you peer over the side of the ship, you'll notice that his body has started drifting back alongside the ship. (OOC: it's on the map)
Kaelen approaches the Captain and hears him mention retrieving the body of Ted. "I have rope. We could try tying it to a javelin or something similar and throwing it." Death doesn't phase him much, so it doesn't occur to him that they might wish to avoid damaging the corpse in the process.
Koya glances over the side of the ship, hesitant at first. Come now, Koya, afraid of a little water? For all the good you were that battle it's the least you can do for the man. Steeling themself, Koya will turn back to the captain briefly. "Of course. Allow me." With that, Koya will begin to tie one end of their rope around themself, and the other to a point on the ship. They will look for another rope on the deck, or use the other end of their own if they can't find one, and anchor one end of the second rope to the ship and the other to the piton they are carrying.
Their plan is to rappelle over the side of the boat using their rope and carrying the second, then use the piton to assist in tying a secure knot around the lost sailor, hoping to stay as much out of the water as they can. At Kaelen's words they will turn to him and hold up their partially knotted rope, "If I could borrow your line I could climb down to secure it to the man. Although... it may be prudent to keep a close eye on the water - I'm not sure I trust that we've seen the last of those creatures."

Kaelen hands his rope to Koya, his expression calm and measured. "I'll keep watch while you work."
He glances at the water, finding it curious that the Dragonborn is willing to risk himself to retrieve the fallen crewmate. Though Kaelen doesn't fully understand the need, he nods slightly to himself as he approaches the edge of the deck nearest the floating body. "I suppose it's important to them," he murmurs. They don't share memories like my people—perhaps they need something tangible to remember him by.

"Yes, I'd much prefer that plan. We have plenty of rope onboard if you need any more."
