He watches as the others warm up to Welterschmerz with slight curiosity and worry. There was no denying Welterschmerz was charming, there was this sort of aura about him that just drew people in and that he hated the most. How soon before Welt saw it fit that they were no longer worthy of life? How soon before he judged them as evil and drew his sword. If anything, in his mind, Welt was little more than a liability; if they were all indeed going into that forest, as ominous as it was looking, he didn't want to have to worry about one of their own turning on them as well. One wrong word or move and they could all find their death because of one zealous fool. And he wasn't willing to die before he got his vengeance.
With a friendly looking face he approached Welt, "Can I have a quiet word with you for a moment?"

Kirra touches her hair at Norlaith's words and smiles up at her fellow elf, then reached back and unclasps the ornate pin holding her hair back. With an outstretched arm she silently offers it to Norlaith to hold any loose hair down as she flies about, simply raising her eyebrows and nodding towards her orange hair. After a moment and Norlaith's reaction she asks "where are you from?"
"Of course Ryman. Ladies if you could give a minute, then we shall venture into the forest." He takes Ryman aside out of eavesdropping reach. "So what troubles your mind, friend? Was I too enthusiastic? I can understand if your quest would lead you on another path. It just seemed like such a coincidence."
Norlaith Norlaith cautiously takes the pin from Kirra and turns it around in her hand, inspecting it. This elf seemed nice but she had been tricked before and she knew better. Nevertheless she put it in her hair, removing some of the loose strands from her face, and smiled graciously. "Thank you, " she says, looking up at Kirra."I'm from the Feywild, my mother owns a library right on the edge of it. It's called Two Dove's Library, it isn't very big but we love it. I've read practically every book there. But I'm babbling," she laughs, remembering her mother, "what about you?"
"We're going to be traveling into that forest together," he says, "and we're going to be watching each other's backs an awful lot. Now, I've met someone like you before, proclaiming all good and righteousness and all that bloody crap. Then goes off and does all kinds of sick things. Killing and torturing his fellow soldiers, slaughtering mothers in front of their children, burning down villages. Now, I'm not saying you're the same but you remind me an awful lot of him, all that zeal and self-righteousness see? I'll sleep a lot better in there if I have your word you won't go and cut us down no matter what we might do. Agreeable?"

Kirra takes mental note of Norlaith's hesitance but beams at her as she puts the hair pin in place. "Excellent, very nice!" Regarding where they are from, Kirra replies "I have not heard of the Two Doves but I shall have to visit! I am from the Emerald Forest, myself, and am a member of the Summer Court. Well, not a very important member, that is, I'm not like Eachthighern or Skerrit or Emma or The Green Knight, of course!" At that, she chuckles just a little. "I am but a servant."
Kirra pulls out a silver piece of ribbon, pulls back her hair, and wraps it around it several times before quickly tying it in place. She gives Norlaith a wink.
"What are the boys prattling on about anyway?" she says in jest, peering over her shoulder.
Still studying up on my Feywild and Summer Court lore, but I gather that the Emerald Forest would be well known enough in the Feywild that Norlaith would likely have heard of it, being from the Feywild.
"I've always wanted to visit the Emerald Forest! Is it as beautiful as the books say it is? I can't believe you're part of the Summer Court, how spectacular!" Norlaith had read many stories about the Emerald Forest and the Summer Court, as well as the queen, Titania. Although she loved the stories and was always fascinated by her mother's culture, she didn't worship Titania as the rest of the elves did.
Instead of thinking too much about the Feywild and her childhood of exclusion from the other elves, she just laughs at Kirra's wink and her joke. Maybe not all elves were bad, after all, look at how her mother fell in love with a dragon.
She studies the boys faces from afar, "I don't know but it doesn't look very positive. Shouldn't we be going soon, who knows how long this path will stay open?"
"Do you want me to tell you this? Would you even believe me? What do you really want Ryman, another one claiming the moral high ground promising you everything you want, then torturing and slaughtering innocent bystanders, mishandling young girls, burning crop, livestock and houses anyway. Would your escapist wish help you?" Weltschmerz seems angered than is overcome by sadness "I wish I could give you that, but I can't. I cannot stay silent in all circumstances. There are actions I cannot ignore. And do you really expect me to stand down if say one of the girls starts running amok? I believe some of them have at least arcane powers. With that it doesn't need much physical prowess to wreak unimaginable havocon people."
"I don't proclaim to be all that good or righteous. But I must admit to my zealousness. It's what took me to this moment." Once again Weltschmerz seems lost in remembrance of past times. Then he continues "I have done things I'm not proud of and I'm sometimes afraid of how far I'm willing to go to fight evil. But what I can promise you is that if you're actions and intentions aren't evil I have no interest in harming you. Maybe you are sent as a counterpoint to control my religious fervor. I hope you can be brave enough to raise your voice if you think my actions are going to far."
"If you're interested in escaping your nightmares I could teach you some prayers to Shar,"As a sad smile returns to his face "However I must warn you it doesn't seem to work quite as good or reliable as those religious fanatics want you to believe."
Ryman considers his words for a moment, then broke out into a grin. "I'll accept that for now," he says with a nod and walks back to the rest of the group. The idea of keeping his zealousy in check sounded good to him. He didn't quite trust him yet, but he understands the need for someone like him, someone to watch his back in that dread looking forest and since he agreed, albeit somewhat partially, to his terms. Under the circumstances it was good enough.
"That open path is ominously waiting for us," he says to the others, nodding towards the opening. "Shall we?"

Weltschmerz puts on his helmet, strides up to the group, takes his horses rein and begins his slow approach of the dark forest. "All right let's get it over."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kirra readies her bow once more and focuses on the forest, looking back briefly to ask "ready, Charlotte?" She surveys their surroundings as the reach the edge of the wood and the all too convenient path that has just opened for them, looking for signs or trouble, magic, living creatures, or anything else notable.
As all the preparations had been made, the group enters the forest, with Kirra going through the trouble of watching out for anything that may lie in the darkness ahead. Her efforts are rewarded...
A large living tree with dark, cracked bark blocks the trail. Its black eyes watch everyone intently. Thick, dark sap runs unchecked like tears down its gnarled face. The strange creature shows no other sign of emotion, despite some looking prepared to fight.
It seems to be making a weeping sound.

Weltschmerz offers a short prayer to the gods "Praised be ye Eldath, can you reveal to me what ails this creature."
Norlaith speaks up from the middle of the group so Weltshmerz can hear her, "I think it's a Treant, they're usually kind although they are protectors of the forests, though we've done no wrong so maybe it is hurt? OH! And they're sentient beings so this one should be understanding everything we've being saying." She looks over the shoulder of the person in front of her and mumbles under her breath, "How fascinating to see one in person."
To those who attempt to communicate with it...a deep, powerful voice responds,
"She has returned! The Dusk Queen has returned! Have you come to retrieve the mirror shards for her?"
